Dec 4, 2008 - From Hanoi to Mai Chau

Hello family and friends, I have finally located another place to send emails. So, it is now time for updates as to our progress. We ventured out of Hanoi following a xe om driver on a moped. He led us out of town on a high speed thrill ride through a huge sprawling city of winding roads and crazy, crazy, crazy traffic. Moving around the streets of a city like that appears to be utter mayhem, but upon close inspection there is a kind of crazy flow about it - a kind of dance, if you will, that everybody on the road seems to know the steps...

Mar 31, 2008 - Hanoi

31 March. Checked out from the Ritz hotel at noon, but stayed inside the hotel reception until early evening. At 8 o’clock in the evening the bus left Hanoi. My first intension was to go to Ninh Binh, 80-90 km south of Hanoi. Just when I entered the bus, I changed my mind and decided to go to Hue instead.

Jul 2, 2007 - Hanoi

Omdat Sapa een wat aangenamer klimaat heeft dan de rest van Vietnam, zijn er zeer veel mensen vanuit Hanoi die het weekend nar Sapa gaan. En ik was daar toevallig in het weekend. Dus alle nachttreinen naar Hanoi waren al vol geboekt. er was nog wel een dagtrein, die dus mar genomen. Uitzicht was mooi, 14 uur op harde, houten banken in een trein zonder airco is minder mooi... Mar 8, 2007 - Good-bye Vietnam

Hi everyone, We left DaLat several days ago and we are now in Hanoi. As stated in the last entry, DaLat was certainly a place of contrasts. We either spent time sitting in our little hotel courtyard playing crib where we could watch the lake in peace or we spent time on the busy streets of the town centre. One afternoon we sat in a cafe drinking tea and lemon sodas (my new favourite drink) listening to country music (they must think westerners like this) while talking over the constant sound of motorbike horns. Jun 20, 2006 - Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi...

Jun 21, 2006 Hello! We arrived in Hanoi on Wed. evening and got a cab from the airport (as soon as you get off the flight about 10 cabbys come up to you trying to get in THEIR cab) and drove through beautiful rice fields...women in conical hats tending to them (just as you may picture vietnam) architecture here is unique with lots of french influence. everyone here drives motorbikes....everyone!!!
