Lonely Planet rave about Santa Fe just outside of Puerto La Cruz, not sure why. Other travellers had warned me that it was a nice place though the people could be a bit difficult. Well I never had any trouble, only that I didn't realise that carnival is such a big thing so I had to stay in Santa Fe much longer than I would have liked. Really 3 days is enough to do some boat trips out to the Parque Nacional Mochima to see pink, purple, rose and violet coloured coral and admire the fish. Happy New Year to all. After two nights in the ultimate 70s hotel in Puerto la Cruz, we headed to our first tropical beach retreat in Mochima national park. We are feeling much more chilled and pro-Venezuela, after four days of total relaxation. A typical day includes: delicious breakfast, followed by a boat trip to a nearby deserted island, where you are left with chairs, tables, snorkels and sufficient quantities of rum and beer to set up camp under the palm trees.
