Jun 29, 2010 - Tuesday Sturgeon Bay, WI

We left Chetek around 11:15 and a bald eagle soared over us as we crossed the bridge out of Chetek, as if to say good-bye. We stopped at a truck stop and had lunch - since we were not on an Interstate, there really weren't any rest areas. We passed through the city of Green Bay - not very impressive from where I sat. I find it hard to believe they can fill a football stadium. Maybe I'll be more impress when we go there to try to replace Bob's phone. We arrived at our new campground just after the office closed?? about 5:06 PM, so we'll...

Sep 9, 2008 - Travels with Glenda 4-10

Travels with Glenda 4-10 Leaving Minneapolis we also leave the Mississippi behind as we head east into Wisconsin. As we drive there is nothing but miles and miles of corn fields. The countryside is also becoming more rolling hills and deep river valleys. We stopped for the night in Wausau at a county park. The campground is in a grove of very tall trees, with water and electric and the obligatory train tracks just off the park. We got in early enough to take a trip to Hamburg, about 20 miles north. It consists of a few homes, a church and...

Travels with Glenda

Aug 7, 2008 - Day 117 Thursday 7th August Sturgeon Bay, Potawatomi State Park

Day 117 Thursday 7th August Sturgeon Bay, Potawatomi State Park pg 114 H14 Last nite we stayed downtown Sturgeon Bay, in a street overlooking the Bay and close by one of the split bridges, this morning we saw the sun rising over the Bay. Once on the road, our first port of call was into the Whitefish Dunes State Park only a short drive north along Rte 57. Upon paying $10 for a day into the State Park we went for a walk along the beach, it was beautiful, clean sand and crystal clear waters along the foreshore. Then only a short distance away...

Aug 6, 2008 - Day 116 Sturgeon Bay, NE of Green Bay

Day 116 Wednesday 6th August Sturgeon Bay, NE of Green Bay pg 114 H14 Happy birthday brother Joe: hope you have a good one wherever you are camped back in Australia. Safe travels. Initially our plans today were to head in the general direction of Portage then on to Vera and Pat’s place on Thursday. However we changed our mind and delayed our visit by a day in order to drive around the Peninsula north of Green Bay (city), Wisconsin, home of the grid iron football team, the Green Bay Packers and also the Grid Iron’s Hall of Fame, which we may...

Aug 18, 2002 - Lolligagging around the Great Lakes (town of Manistee)

Another tip we've learned -- if you see a sign on the highway that says "Event Parking next exit" or "Next Exit for (Event)" -- and you don't have reservations to stay -- keep driving! Usually for about another 30-50 miles! The only time they put signs on the highway is when it is a really big deal! After visiting our Rite Aid just over the Michigan border, we decided to drive a little further up the coast. Bad decision. We had to drive clear to Holland (felt like we drove to the country of Holland, not the town!) The Tall Ships were in...
