Jul 29, 2010 - On our way over Lake Michigan
Traveling through Minnesota to go North of Lake Michigan. Never done that before. :-) Spent the day driving to Oakdale WI. This KOA had the best pool of the trip – about twice the size of most, clean and not too crowded. Karen and Ryan did lots of swimming before dinner. The campground was very nice and clean, trees and green grass again. We went to a store recommended by the people at the KOA and we were in heaven. Much like Wegman’ - not in size but in the kind of products. It was starting to feel a little bit like home again. Of course,...Jump to full entry
Aug 26, 2009 - Oakdale, WI
Today was a clear day with temperatures in the low 70’s. We did a Self-guided Driving Tour through the Amish country. We started in Tomah driving through the country, seeing fields of corn, soybeans, dairy farms then stopping at the Village of Cashton for lunch. We ate lunch at Bader Crossing Restaurant. We also stopped at a few Amish homes that were selling rugs, oak foldings, furniture, maple syrup and crafts. Another stop we made was at a produce auction. And then a stop, which was at the Old Country Cheese Factory Store, where I bought...Jump to full entry
Aug 25, 2009 - Travel Day
It was cloudy this morning and the wind blowing, with temperatures in the high 60’s. We left Wheelers Campground and drove 54 miles to Oakdale, WI. Arriving at noon at a KOA, a down pour of rain came just as we were sitting up camp. After that we went to the Cranberry Discovery Center in Warrens, WI where we learned all about the harvesting of Cranberries. It was very interesting. The first week of Oct they will be harvesting the cranberries, but we won’t be here. We’ll be working. After that we checked out the fields of cranberries, in the...Jump to full entry
Jul 5, 2009 - Fourth on the road
I struggled to find something interesting and exciting to report about our 4th of July extended weekend here in the middle-of-nowhere, west-central Wisconsin, but couldn’t come up with much. We mostly relaxed, as planned, except for one day when we decided we really had to get out of the house and look around! On Saturday (the 4th of July), we ventured into Tomah to see what their farmers’ market would be like. Whether it was the holiday parade and other celebrations that were scheduled to begin in a couple of hours or it’s just a very...Jump to full entry
May 20, 2009 - A short peek at Jodi & Ken's
We made it this far today... it's hard to leave the kids but it's also good to get moving again. We're at a KOA here and it's a beautiful place! Tall trees and neat as a pin. But holy ol' buckets, Harvey!!!.... the noise from the Interstate is several decibels above the comfort level!!! Wow. It won't matter if P snores tonight or not! ha It will no doubt slow down to a dull roar after the main traffic stops and it's just the semi's, etc. *,* However, I'm tired enough that it won't matter a bit tonight!! We usually stop at KOA's when we're...Jump to full entry
May 20, 2009 - Bird's eye view.. er.. hmm...
We've been requested to do a "play by play" trip photo journal... so here it is. We left Muskego... traveled through Waukesha, Oconomowoc, Rio, Wisconsin Dells, and on to just about Tomah. Love the names around here. It may be boring... but we tried to capture a few of the typical sights of south and central WI for you. Follow HWY 18, 16 & 12 and you'll approximate our journey. Tomorrow it's onto I94 to make short work of the ride to Maple Grove, MN to watch Ben & Royce play ball! Feel free to ignore this post as usual! sigh Love to all... P &...Jump to full entry
