Jul 24, 2015 - Milton, WI

Milton, WI is our stop to get us past the Chicago traffic and into close striking distance to Madison. Here we had 3 days to chill, empty tanks, fill up on water and get ready for a week of no hook ups in Madison. Hidden Valley RV Resort was a very nice campground with full amenities. Which of course was reflected in the price. Even so, it was very nice, friendly people, and in a beautiful area. We traveled I-80 to US-30 and then I-30 North getting here, a trip of 263 miles. While we were here, it became certain that Ed and Louise...

May 6, 2015 - Larry / Mary Lou

During the last few days we have been visiting Larry and Mary Lou in Burnsville Minn. A Big thanks to Larry and Mary Lou who went out there way to make us comfortable. Also they made sure neither of us lost any pounds. Check out the photo’s of Larry’s RIBS. Great! We stayed in the Minn. KOA SW which was about 30 miles south of Burnsville. The KOA was very nice and clean and a perfect place to stay for our visit.

Alaska 2015

May 4, 2015 - Hidden Valley RV Resort

The first day of our trip to Alaska is now completed. We passed through Chicago with relative ease. That is in comparison to our previous trip which involved a trip through Atlanta. After Atlanta anything will seem like a breeze. We are presently south of Madison Wisconsin about 40 miles in Hidden Valley RV Resort. This appears to be quite a nice resort with large pull through site which is spacious and pretty level. The resort has a nice Pool and a Snack Bar close by which serves Pizza and Burgers along with other dishes for the weary...

Sep 6, 2014 - Lake Geneva

When the Chicago fire burned mansions of the wealthy, they came north to Lake Geneva in Wisconsin and built new grand homes. It soon came to be called the Hamptons of the Midwest. Many of the old mansions have burned or been replaced with newer models but the lake still sports beautiful homes with some wonderful old restored wooden boats. The railroad was how most people of that day got to the lake and they were then boated to their homes. One of the few remaining mailboats in the country still operates on Lake Geneva and we were on board...

Sep 5, 2014 - Another Day Off

It was a cloudy day with rain predicted so we decided on a day off. We drove up the street for lunch and had a great one at Blue Gilly's Cafe. As their sign says (see above), they specialize in fried Blue Gills and Eggs and that's what we had. They were pan fried and delicious and plentiful. Then we drove around a bit and stopped at the local Walmart to pick up a few things and spent the rest of the day chilling.

Sep 4, 2014 - The House on the Rock

Today we traveled to Spring Green, WI to tour The House on the Rock. The building of this house began in 1945. Alex Jordan had a dream of building a house on and around a chimmey of rock known to locals as Deer Shelter Rock. The original 14 room main house incorporates the rock as walls in several of the rooms. Most fascinating is the Infinity Room which juts out an unsupported 218 feet towering 156 feet above the valley floor. After completion of the main house he built a Mill House and continued to add buildings around the rock. The house...

Sep 3, 2014 - Off To Wisconsin

Hidden Valley RV Resort, 872 E State Rd 59, Milton WI 53563, 608-868-4141 Sue was up very early, in time to see the sunrise on the lake at Timber Trails Campground and get some pictures of it and the mist on the stream up the road. We were unhooked and ready to leave at 8:30 am only to find that the tire pressure in all four fifth wheel tires were low. Got that taken care of and were on the road at 9:00 am. We drove to Rockford, IL to stop at Collier RV. There was a piece outside under the dining area slide that was loose. They took a look...

Aug 18, 2014 - Southern Wisconsin

After Door County, we headed south to Milton, a suburb of Janesville (Paul Ryan’s home). Being an hour away, we headed to Milwaukee to visit the Harley-Davidson Museum. The history of HD is quite fascinating and dates back to 1907. The first bikes were just motorized bicycles – they sure have changed. This museum and displays were very interactive, so even non-riders find it very interesting. One of the more interesting displays was a bike that had been swept away in the Japanese tsunami. It was in a shipping crate that washed up on the...

May 28, 2013 - Milton WI

Today didn’t have much going for it until late in the day, but it was still another day of living the dream. We had a line of storms move through overnight and the thunder and lightning and heavy rain woke us up for awhile, but it lasted less than an hour so we compensated by sleeping in a little. Around 10:00 we headed back down the interstate a few miles to Cracker Barrel for some morning grub, then we had some running around to do in the booming metropolis of Janesville. We got back from all that around 1:30 and did a whole lot of...

May 27, 2013 - Milton WI

We woke up to a foggy, misty, cold morning and it stayed that way pretty much the rest of the day – the temperature never got to 60° all day. Luckily today’s trip was only going to be about 90 minutes so it wasn’t too painful. Probably better than being in upstate NY today –they got 3’ of snow yesterday. We kind of went against the flow today. Since the holiday weekend campers were all hitting the road home, we pulled into the Hidden Valley RV Resort here in Milton WI to a mass exodus. We were pulling in and they were all lined up to leave...

Oct 11, 2012 - Today is the day!

Finally! The day has arrived for us to pull up stakes in MN to begin our full time RV adventure. For the last 2 days, I have been sorting through 24 years worth of picture memories that I wanted to bring along in hopes of being able to find the time to do some scrapbooking. It was a daunting, emotionally challenging task, but I am so thankful that I did it! We hooked the Jeep Wrangler up behind the RV, said goodbye to the friendly folks at Town and Country RV Park in Savage and headed south on I 35. We arrived at Hidden Valley RV Resort in...

Aug 28, 2011 - August 26 - 28th - 23rd stop

I 39 was another terrible road on the way here. 45 mph in a 70 mph zone. We drove around the area yesterday to buy cheese and all the roads we were on were awful. Tomorrow, Monday, we have to go 346 miles to Indianapolis and on these roads, it will be a long trip. Now that we are back east, the photo ops are few and far between. Ken' son and family are visiting him with their son and daughter. We will have my daughter, Lauren and Ryan, visit us at the next stop.
