As always, it’s good to be home. We will miss the warmth and the comfort of the ship and sea. We know we will be back soon. Thank you for following along. I’ve enjoyed the comments. I really enjoy doing the journal and it is nice for Ann and I to go back to them and reminisce on our past trips. It’s a good way to remember our vacations. I’d recommend you do it also. Over all our trip was flawless. We enjoyed every minute of our five weeks. Thanks to Lisa and Bob for the hospitality in San Diego! Also a thanks to Stacie and Dom for hosting...

Our 5 week adventure

Nov 19, 2018 - And so it begins

Not much to report. First day is always a long day of travel. Our friend Sue picked us up at 10:00. Our United flights were all on time. We flew out at 11:50am and Bob picked us up at about 6:20pm San Diego time. This 6’3” guy does not fit well in these United seats...knees pinned up against seat in front of me𯘳

Our 5 week adventure

Oct 17, 2016 - 'Nuf said

We really had a fantastic time visiting Lisa and Bob in San Diego. They were great host and Bob was a fantastic Chauffeur in the cities sea of traffic. We loved the San Diego weather. If it looked like rain at 9:00am don't worry. By 11:00 it will be sunny and blue skies. They say the temperature varies between 65-75 degrees year round. Some days may get in the 90's and some in the 40's toward winter but are not long lived. They even have snow up in the Cleveland National Forest. So those who would like a touch of it can head there...not...

Jul 31, 2015 - Chilton to Home ~ 23.4 mi

Ride Time ~ 2:09:42 Average ~ 10.81 mph We went to bed early last night and ended up with about 9 hrs of sleep. We were up, grabbed a quick breakfast, and we were out on the road by about 5:50am. Again, we tried to get a good early start before the winds picked up out of the west. By the time we were home they had built up to 14mph. Last night we decided to plan our own route. We used Google Earth to use as a map. We mapped out a route that would zig-zag us north, west, north, west, etc so that we would get some relief from the winds. It is...

Jul 31, 2015 - Slow Down

Allow yourself the luxury of time to linger so you can not only see a country but truly experience it - Willie Weir, Adventure Cyclist, from an article- SLOW DOWN Willie Weir has traveled thousands of miles by bicycle. He has traveled all over the world. He is an author and often writes for the Adventure Cycling Association. I have enjoyed reading his book "Travels With Willie". One common thing that I have found reading touring cyclist journals and books is how nice people they meet tend to act towards them. How people take an interest in...

Jul 22, 2015 - Ready to roll

Here it is July 22nd already. This summer is flying by. Yesterday I spent some time cleaning and lubing the chains and gears on our bikes and doing minor adjustments and we should be ready to roll out Sunday morning. We planned this trip around this time of the year to hopefully avoid much of the rain we ran into last year in Door County. Although it can be hot at this time it also should be drier. Another benefit we should find is typically winds are out of the WSW which should help us for much of the ride. It's four days out but Sunday...

Jun 2, 2015 - We're home....'nuf said

We are home. It's been a long day of travel from Shannon, Ireland. It is 7:30 pm and before we hit the hay I wanted to finish up our journal. It was a blast. At the beginning of the tour, it did take about 3-4 days to really settle in from both jet lag and the idea of the trip being so regimented with time. But with a group covering so much history in two countries on a bus, things have to be moved along. Our group as a whole was great at being on time. When we were told "you have 3 hours in Scotland" well, we're all back in time. It was a...

May 17, 2015 - One week to go!

Friday night, Ann and I met Sue and Mary at Houdini's in Appleton for dinner. It was there that we finalized our plans for the 23rd. Mary will pick us up and the four of us will ride to Green Bay for our 11:00am flight. For various reasons, our group of nine has dwindled down to four. We will miss you Pat, Janet, Jerry, Gail & Kieth.

Sep 20, 2014 - Day One ... visit the Runyon Grandkids

Not gonna see these kiddos for a few weeks ... needed to stop and visit on our way out of town for our New York trip. The Austinator is showing off his newly acquired loader/big digger which is a Taylor hand-me-down ... on to someone else when Austin outgrows it. Kirsten is trying very hard, along with her dad and Austin, to get a kite up ... SUCCESS!!!! ... but not a real lot of wind today, so the soaring was minimal. Gonna spend the night in their driveway before heading south tomorrow morning.

Oct 26, 2013 - On the Road Again!

We have been home for a little bit now and, as winter begins to set in and take it's grip on the world, we are getting antsy to get away. We leave for our winter get-away in less than a week and we can't wait! We'll be in Florida for about 5 weeks or so. It's a beautiful place to 'winter' each year and it's so relaxing! We'll be spending a week in each area; Orlando, Weston, Daytona, and Fort Meyers. For our last week we'll be taking a Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas. (Cruising is our FAVORITE way to travel!) The week before our trip is...

Sep 21, 2013 - Headed out toward the Ozarks

We are packing up this morning getting ready to head out to The Ozarks. Going to stay in Springfield, Ill tonight. After nearly 2 months of remodeling the house, it's time to take a break. We did finish the entire top half of the house and it looks great. We will finish the lower level in the spring, but for now, it's time to get back into travel-mode. Tony's itching to get out and Paul wants to take some photographs! The Ozarks should be just lovely right now and the lake will be nice. Hopefully we will see some fall color.
