We made it! And as we entered the campground, everyone in the office came out onto the front porch to welcome us back. How lovely! Got all settled in again, cleaned the inside of the coach, and headed to the store to restock. It's turned cooler, so we also bought some long johns. I think we're ready! We have the park all decorated for Halloween, Fall and Thanksgiving; doesn't it look wonderful?

Phew! The summer just seemed to fly by! The campground was really busy so we picked up extra hours. We also commenced our rounds with our new doctors. After all was said and done and the dust settled, we have both been given thumbs up! Yep, gonna live another year...lol. We were sold out for Labor Day and the park was really jumping. It was interesting to watch as the park filled up and people got all their "stuff" set up. There were kids and campfires everywhere and everyone was having a good time. It always warms our hearts to see...

We so enjoyed our visit from Bob and Elsie. We spent most evenings together just visiting and enjoying each other. On our days off we took them to some of our favorite places and a couple of new ones. Over the 4th of July, our RV park had a local group come out and play on the weekends. They are called Greathouse and are brother Jerald and sister Debra Greathouse. They are really, really good. We've been to a local restaurant, Barnyard BBQ, where they play on Thursday nights. Good music and good food! We took off one day and had lunch at...

Jul 27, 2012 - Day 10: over the mountains

After a breakfast of pancakes, we closed up camp and headed out at 10:53am. We stopped at Danville, about an hour away, to go to Walmart for some food and supplies. Then we went to Chi-fil-A for lunch. It was my first time at one. I had chicken strips and it was good. Back on the road for a long drive thru the mountains. We went on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and stopped at Groundhog Hill, it was 3030 ft. high. We saw a bear crossing sign but didn't see any bears. It started to rain and storm. Grandpa turned on the weather radio and...

Well, it was certainly a crazy, hectic month! There was alot going on in the park, especially since school is out for the summer. We have themed weekends and decorations, crafts and movie are all geared to the theme. It's wonderful to watch the families out around the lake, the kids jumping and having fun in the water. As we take our evening walk around the park, families are sitting around campfires roasting marshmallows and enjoying each other and the lovely weather. The only bad thing we've found is that these same people are up cooking...

We made it to our summer home at the Huntington KOA in Milton, WV, and have settled in nicely. We were in a nice back-in site next to the other workampers, Jake and Jen. They like to work on “projects” together, and they built this motorized cooler from an old electric wheelchair! Both Jake and Jen are quite tall people and it was sure funny to see them ride around on their cooler! About a month after we arrived, Jake and Jen just up and left for a job elsewhere! No notice, nothing. So our learning curve ramped up as we took on more duties....

The weather was overcast and cool this morning. We expected rain to find us all day, but it held off until we were at the campground and set up. The best leaf color we have seen on this whole trip has been along I77 to I81 through West Virginia and into Virginia. The leaves are gorgeous even without the sun shining on them. We went through Charleston, West Virginia, which is the capitol. We had to go through a tunnel to go from West Virginia to Virginia. And, not long after that we found a second tunnel. We followed a horse trailer through...

Oct 10, 2011 - Milton, WV

We had another nice day to travel into West Virginia. The sky was overcast which kept the temperature down some. We drove along the Ohio River Byway which is State Route 7 along the Ohio River. Across the river is West Virginia. We saw pretty leaves and more agriculture. We had been seeing soy bean fields that looked ready to harvest. Today we saw farmers taking in the soy beans. All the corn we have seen has been dry and ready to be ground up for sillage to feed to the animals this winter. We have been impressed on this trip with how much...

We arrived at the Huntington/Fox Fire KOA after a long travel day and were glad to settle in for a day or two. We were guided to our campsite by the owner and Chris off-handedly asked if they used workampers. They do and they needed a second couple to work next summer. So we got together with the owners and by the time we left two days later, we had a contract to work at the KOA for next summer! We enjoyed our chats with the owners and the park is quite nice. So we’ll be off the streets and out of trouble next summer...lol.

Jul 25, 2011 - Almost Heaven

We drove up I77 into West Virginia today. I don't think there is any flat ground in this state unless you are in the flood plain of one of the rivers. Winnie sure got a work out climbing today. Today was a dangerous day on WV roads. We saw a pick-up truck turned over on I77. We couldn't figure out what happened, it was on a straight stretch of road headed uphill. I posted a picture. We also saw a black plume of smoke coming up from the southbound lane of I77. We couldn't see what it was because of the trees between the north and south bound...

Jul 12, 2010 - Huntington

Today was spent enjoying a return visit to Huntington, WV, home of Marshal University (Will’s alma mater). We saw a few things we had seen before and a couple of new local attractions, too. The morning was spent at Marshall University. While Blayde and I enjoyed the flowers outside Willis stopped into the bookstore to buy a new green Marshall polo shirt (he wore his old one out) and he bought me a new Marshall tank top. (Hmmmm, I just bought a Purdue t-shirt, but perhaps he wanted equal time for Marshall.) We then headed downtown for a walk...

May 1, 2009 - Somewhere out there in West Virginia

May 1, 2009 Friday Niagara Falls to Milton, West Virginia Waking up late I decided to get a nice long shower and some laundry done before tackling the road. We finally left Niagara at one. It was a long drive through beautiful countryside. Even if I was on the interstate the whole time it still had its picturesque moments. New York has some beautiful areas with wineries and Pennsylvania was full of farms. It helped that the weather was spectacular, notice the sky in the pictures. My receipts tell me I stayed in Milton, West Virginia…Do not...
