Mar 29, 2008 - Charleston, WV to Chicago

Saturday, March 29 Off we go, to Chicago. We left relatively early and we wanted to travel for a while and then get breakfast on the road, which we did. We cruised into Chicago at about 3:00 PM. The game plan was to meet Luke at the studio that he was working. He has begun sculpturing again, after a period of time not doing it. He has met some local artists and is currently working with them. Chicago traffic is, as usual, bad. But we found him at the address given to us, thanks to the GPS. We met Luke, toured the studio and then went to...

Oct 29, 2007 - Charleston West Virginia - A nice surprise!

We are having way too much fun. Marty says we'll go home, settle in for two weeks, and then go back on the road again. There just hasn't been enough time to stop and see all of the places we have wanted to visit and experience. Oh darn, I guess we'll have to do this again... A cold snap hits and for the first time since we arrive on the East Coast, it feels like Fall. It's a beautiful brisk sunny day and we decide to try make Louisville, Kentucky. We head due west on Highway 64 and then I remember that Monticello, Jefferson's plantation...

Sep 5, 2007 - Tennessee to Virginia to West Virginia

All in one day we travelled 3 states. Why? Well I started getting anxious about time. I want to be up in New England in time for the fall leaves and we need to get through New England and back by December. At first we thought we would travel all around the border of West Virginia ending at Harpers Ferry. Harpers Ferry is, apparently, a significant pre-civil war town. We travelled form TN to Waynesville Virginia and then up to Charleston, West Virginia. A beautiful drive with the Appalachian Moutains all around us. It's easy to see why Jon...

Jun 30, 2007 - On The Road!!

On the Road!!! Today we finished cleaning the apartment and did our walk through around 8:30am. We were on the road at 9:05am heading to Lexington, KY. This is the longest leg of our trip as Lexington is around 500 miles away. After some minor adjustments along the first 50 miles (no, a box full of stuff should not be left unsecured on top of the cabinets) we fell into a routine. Newton slept on Shelly's lap (much to her displeasure), Lily claimed the back bench, Clifford was in his cage ½ of the time and JoJo alternated between sitting...

Oct 21, 2006 - A day in Charleston, WV.

When we got to our campground in West Virginia yesterday we just sorta chilled out except for the drive back to a mall we passed on the way in. I am having trouble getting my Verizon Cell Phone to take and hold a charge. No problem though, we will just go back to a Verizon store and they can fix it. Huh. No way. There is not Verizon store anywhere in West Virginia or Kentucky. Seems there are no towers or anything in these states because there is no contract with Verizon in either one. Guess I will just have to wait to get my cell phone...

The Beginning

Jul 10, 2005 - Mammoth Caves, Kentucky

We stayed at Mammoth Caves National Park last night so we could get up early and take the 8:45 tour of the caves this morning. We met the Ranger at the visitor center and took a 15 minute bus ride to the cave entrance. Check out the pictures for Rachel's great stalagtite and stalagmite photos. The Mammoth Caves are the longest cave system in the world. There are over 345 miles of documented cave passageways. Pretty neat. Brittany, aka "Nature Girl"...did not appreciate the large numbers of cave crickets that live near the entrance to the...
