Jul 8, 2017 - Montpelier, VT
It finally stopped raining after about 3 hours of driving. We stopped in Burlington to see the Waterfront. We found out from Sara where Bernie Sanders office was so we walked into town which was only a few blocks up a hill. There was another festival going on in their downtown. When we got to Bernie's office which was not visible from the outside a girl who worked in his office walked out. We talked to her for a few minutes. After walking back to our car we drove for about a half hour or so to our hotel, getting lost a little bit and found...Jump to full entry

Oct 6, 2013 - Vermont 2013 - Day 1
We took the redeye and landed in Burlington, VT late morning. First thing on our minds was LUNCH! A short way down the freeway, we saw the sign for the capital city of Montpelier, so we stopped in. I apologize in advance for not taking a picture of the amazing capital building - but our minds were a one-way street at that point. Just past the capital building, we found Kismet Farm to Table. The food was amazing, service was great, ambiance was relaxing. If you are there try the scallops and the homemade ginger/honey tea. If you know us, you...Jump to full entry
Jul 23, 2013 - Vermont
Tuesday 23 – Travel Day through the country roads of Vermont. Beautiful scenery. Lots of signs warning of Moose crossings, but never saw one… Wed. 24 – Today we toured the capital building of Vermont in Montpelier. Montpelier is the smallest capital city in the U.S. The House and Senate chambers are the oldest legislative chambers still in their original condition. In the Cedar Creek Reception Room hangs a 10 X 20 painting, ‘The Battle of Cedar Creek’. The Old Vermont Brigade in the center of the picture lead a rally that would reverse a...Jump to full entry

Aug 2, 2012 - Parting Ways
After breakfast, we checked out, and drove out of town. Ellen and I had decided to get to the border, cross, and lunch in Newport, Vermont at the EastSide Restaurant on Lake Memphermagog ( local pronunciation is mem-fra-may-gog). It felt good to stretch our legs and refuel our bodies ( the cars had already been refueled). After lunch we got back on the road and after thirty minutes parted ways. Ellen went south and east to Rhode Island and I went west to Montpelier - Vermont's Capitol - the smallest capitol city in the United States....Jump to full entry
Sep 29, 2010 - Vermont Maple Syrup
Today we drove a few miles to see how real maple syrup is made. The state of Vermont sets a standard that the sugarhouse must adhere to. First the Sugar Maple trees have to be 40 years old before they can be tapped for the sap. The tree is drilled with 2 holes each winter and a tap is pounded into the hole and a bucket is hung on the tap to catch the sap. The sap is collected during the winter months and is boiled down to evaporate all the water from the sugar. The sugar content must measure precisely 67% before it is put into containers to...Jump to full entry
Sep 28, 2010 - Montpelier, Vermont
This morning Mary was feeling better so we decided to take a short hike and headed to the trail head of the Appalachian Trail about 2 miles from our campground in Shelburne, New Hampshire. We had a nice hike along Rattle Creek with no sounds except the quite sounds of the woods and the rushing sound of the creek as it passed us by. We took some pictures and never saw another person until we came back to the trail head parking lot. There a car pulled up just as we got back to the clearing the two guys in the car spotted me and asked if they...Jump to full entry

Jun 9, 2010 - Our Suite is back!
May 17 - after we spent the weekend at our daughter Jen's in Massachusetts, helping her work on her house, I headed out on Monday morning for Indiana. On Tuesday morning I met with Paul Cross to see how everything was progressing. They expected to have our Suite completed by the end of the day. As we have had interest in custom RV haulers for awhile, I took advantage of being in the area and traveled to Classy Chassis in Valparasio to check out their trucks and the operation. I was impressed with their products. Upon returning to Paul's I...Jump to full entry
