Sep 8, 2020 - Another Trip to South Dakota

We took another quick trip to South Dakota, we left Crescent, Oregon (with just the truck) & headed for Rapid City. We hit the road on Aug. 29th & arrived in Spearfish, SD on the 31st, where we stayed at the Hampton Inn. We had appointments on Sept. 1st to renew our licenses in Rapid City. While in So. Dakota we got a chance to visit with friends Joe & Julie, who we originally met at Picacho RV Resort in AZ. We had a wonderful visit & did some catching up. Thank you Joe & Julie for your awesome hospitality. We send our love & hugs to you...

Aug 25, 2020 - Deadwood

Howdy. Today we went to Deadwood. First stop was the Adam’s museum which is full of deadwood history. We then went to Saloon #10 were Wild Bill Hickok was murdered. They even had a re-inactment. It was fun. Afterwards we wen through a few of the shops. Rob and Lori got naked, I mean went to the Naked Winery. After our Deadwood visit, Scott and I went back to Rapid City and found a Honda dealership. I found my new toy, a Can-am. It’s a three wheel motorcycle. Rob and Lori went to another Naked Winery to pick up some items they didn’t have at...

Aug 24, 2020 - Mount Rushmore

Today we got up early and headed for Mount Rushmore. They were doing construction at Rushmore but we worked around it. It did take away from the grand-ness a little. It is such an impressive sight to see however. Everyone should see it at least once in their lives. After Mount Rushmore, we headed out the 244 to Needles Highway. The road's name comes from the needle-like granite formations, which seem to pierce the horizon along the highway. They also have very narrow, low tunnels that are one lane at a time. We watched a school bus barely...

Aug 23, 2020 - Wall drug Store and Badlands NP

Today we headed to Wall to visit their famous drug store. They even welcome pups there so Dakota got to go shopping with us. Wall Drug store takes up an entire block. They have a bunch of different stores and eateries. We had fun looking at everything and Dakota had fun getting a bunch of pets from people. One little girl was petting her and looked up at her dad and said - I want one. It was very cute. At one point, we stopped and sat on a bench outside of a store and realized there were bats taking a nap in the doorway. They are cute when...

Aug 22, 2020 - South Dakota

Moving day. We had a 301 mile drive today. Well, we were supposed to have a 301 mile drive. Unfortunately we got turned around about 30 miles into South Dakota. We were entering an Indian Reservation and they closed the road to everything but locals and commercial vehicles due to COVID, so we had to go back 30 or so miles and head a different direction. By the time we got to our campground, our 301 miles turned into 392. We were all exhausted so it was an early night. Tomorrow we go to Wall, SD and into the Badlands.

Aug 19, 2020 - It is a 3 state day....Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota

Wow, our internet here in Rapid city, South Dakota is really poor so not sure how much I can post to all of you. My photos are not uploading, so we will see.... Anyway we were up @ 0600 and underway @ 0800. I know it seems early but we need to get used to getting up earlier because when we get to the Newmar factory they take possession of our Rv @ 0600 in the morning for service. That means we need to be up, have everything stowed, and have the RV ready to drive @ 0600. So we'll be getting up considerably earlier than 0600 for that. And...

Oct 22, 2019 - Captain's Log - Earthdate 2019.10.22

In my last Log entry, we were parked at Ellsworth AFB FamCamp near Rapid City, South Dakota. We like this area so we decided to do a little more exploring while we had the chance. Our life can be a little bit random and I sometimes tend to make decisions at the last moment, something that can sometimes really annoy Dee Dee. One day, when we got up we decided to go to visit Badlands National Park. Dee Dee was "on-board" with that decision so we bundled up a bit as the weather was starting to get a little cool and the winds only added to the...

Sep 1, 2019 - Mt. Rushmore / Crazy Horse Monuments

Lots to do here, we will be here for the next 4 days. "EXPLORING" (That means Pictures to come) Wall Drug first because the overcast might make the Monument photos look bad. Still, WALL DRUG.... Need I say more? We went to Wall Drug today and since it is at the edge of the Bad Lands, we did that too. We saw Bison, Big Horn Sheep and Prairie Dogs as well as all the stark landscape the is so beautiful in its Desolate appearance. Hope you enjoy the pictures. The Dogs are going to the beauty parlor tomorrow. Visited Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse...

North to Alaska 2019

Jun 6, 2019 - Rapid City

Our drive from Bismarck to Rapid City, was for us, a long one. The shortest route between the two towns was about 310 miles. But our Phaeton GPS, knowing we are a motor home, sent us out I-94 and then south on US 81, and then back east on I-90, resulting in more than 350 miles of travel. The trip was desolate and mostly flat to rolling hills. We stopped to switch drivers at a remote little store called "The Mercantile." The place was interestingly quirky, We had some ice cream before moving on. We arrived after 5pm at the Rapid City/Black...

Jun 2, 2019 - Rapid City, SD May 29 - June 1, 2019

We left Cheyenne, WY early in the morning because we had to go to another location to empty our tanks and then hit the road for a 300-mile day. The drive was no on interstates but US 85 and it was a beautiful drive. Lots of green ranch land and small towns. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the rolling hill, windmill, cattle, horses and buffalo (Tatanka). We are staying at Ellsworth Air Force Base, which I about 6 miles east of Rapid City. The RV park is very nice with great wi-fi and nice long spaces. They have planes and our 1st evening was...

May 22, 2019 - Interior SD

Day 1, May 18 The adventure begins. We left Merritt Island early this morning for 5 days of interstate driving. The first real stop will be in Interior SD which is just outside Badlands National Park. Day 5, May 22 Arrived in Interior SD this afternoon after 5 days of interstate driving. The trip was uneventful. Fortunately for us I-29 in western Missouri and Iowa was closed about a month ago due to flooding. That caused a reroute which took us north in eastern Missouri then west on I-80 to rejoin the original route. We originally planned...
