Aug 1, 2020 - Milford for the day

The front tire on my bicycle blew last weekend. I tried to find a bike shop near Lackawaxen but the closest one is in Milford, the next town south of Matamoras, PA. They are open till 6 on Friday and Saturday nights, and when I mentioned that I needed to go there, Ingrid said I could go with the government vehicle during work hours because right across the street is the Columns, home of the Pike County Historical Society and Museum. It has a couple of displays relating to Zane Grey, so I needed to go there and see them and take pictures!...

Jun 18, 2020 - Temporary "home"

I got to my temporary home in Milford, PA in the afternoon. It is just south of Matamoras on the Delaware, but this program doesn't have it in the database! I didn’t see that I had a picnic table to use but it didn’t matter because it is just a place to “store” it while I visit family before starting work at the Upper Delaware. I walked around the campground and see that it is just like the others around here. It is mainly for weekend tenters who plan on being in the river. It is owned by Kittatinny. I found out that it has cable so I...

Sep 6, 2019 - Travel to Pennsylvania

Today was a long and not our best driving day!! The day got off onto a bad start, when the GPS (that has height alerts) sent us down a side street that had big tree branches that were way too low for us to get under! There was no place to turn around so Alvin wound up backing up onto a fairly busy street. Got that done with no problem and had to navigate a tight 5 corner roundabout. We had gone down the side street to avoid this corner! Got through that and got onto the toll Hwy. 95. Alvin decided to stop at the first rest stop, to check...

Jun 27, 2019 - rough roads

If you have been staying current on the blog, you’ll remember that we had to make a side trip to Indiana to the Grand Design Service Center to get some work done on Mo – most of the issues were related to the slides which are what makes the inside of Mo so livable! We stayed in a hotel for a week and thought we would have Mo back on Monday, June 24th and in fact had checked out of the hotel in South Bend that morning. We went to breakfast and were on the way to the Service Center when we received a call that there was one more thing they...

2019 Life in our RV

Aug 10, 2016 - Hanging loose for the day

Today we are just hanging loose. Started the morning with a good walk and then finished up the reservations. Did some reading and fixing a few things on the RV. This afternoon I took a drive into the local town to see what it looked like. Again this is a working town, they have some really great looking homes that look like they are old. Nothing special to see here. So just relaxing and taking it easy for the day.

To Maine and back

Aug 9, 2016 - Heading west

This morning we start our trek back home, although it will take us over 2 months, over 4000 miles on the RV, probably over 3000 miles on the Honda and 17 states to drive through. Today we will drive just into Pennsylvania to Matamoras. This is an area of the Pocono Hills (they say mountains but these aren't mountains) and is a working community. Driving out of the Boston area was a pain. After driving for an hour, I was closer to downtown Boston than when we left, but this was the only way to go. After about 2 hours of driving we finally...

To Maine and back

Aug 19, 2014 - long day

This was just a long day on the road for us. We drove 236 miles which I know is not a long ways but it is to us. We drove toll roads which we didn't plan to do but decided we were getting tired of all the back roads. The thing with the toll roads is you never know what it is going to cost. We got to the Tri State Rv park around 3:00. It is just a big gravel lot with hook-ups. The lady said they were slow but by 6:00 there was 6 other traveler's parked around us. There was a restaurant there but it is only open on the week-ends.

Don't wake me up

Oct 12, 2012 - Day Seven Lancaster to Matamoras, PA

Skeeter was the only entry and once again he is correct. Mary Virginia Wade was the only civilian killed at Gettysburg and has a perpetual US Flag at her grave. She was not the only woman killed there however. Several women posed as men soldiers and were identified posthumously. Skeeter also posed the question: Who is the only other woman to be honored with a perpetual Flag? Our first thought was Jackie Kennedy who is buried along side JFK at Arlington, but the Flag would not be honoring her. The correct answer is Betsy Ross who is buried...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Nov 27, 2007 - Overnight in PA & ATI Party

Well here we are again, both pooped after battling traffic all day. Now nicely tucked away for the night in a little campground in Malamoras, PA (I know Jay I told you Port Jarvis but I looked again and that's down the road a bit, You know Dad!) I've got a good Internet connection so I decided to upload a few pictures of the ATI Christmas Party and our stopover last night at cousin Rosemary & John's in Concord. We were met like two lost souls because they thought we were leaving on the 18th........ not!! But we had a wonderful time enjoying...
