Jan 4, 2019 - On the road again

What a year! We finally finished our fall harvest. It was a very frustrating season, with the weather never cooperating with us. Yesterday I did some equipment washing, and today we escaped. It was a warm(+9 celcius) afternoon as we crossed the border at Fort Erie into Buffalo , New York. This time of year it is important to escape on a nice day. We have been caught with bad weather on the south side of Lake Erie on several occasions, and try to avoid that problem. We traveled across I-90 to Erie, PA and the south on I-79 to Grove City. We...

Aug 7, 2017 - Grove City PA.

We drove 380 miles today covering pretty much the length of Pennsylvania. It rained all day and we did not want to stop in the rain, so we kept going. We got a reservation up the road at another KOA just off of I-80. By the time we got within 10 miles of the campground, it stopped raining. Traffic was not like yesterday, but the construction was everywhere. We just wish they done some of that work on their bridges.

May 21, 2017 - Mercer/Grove City, PA

2017-05-20. Mercer/Grove City, PA KOA For those of you who don't know, KOA is Kampgrounds of America, a nationwide chain of campgrounds operated sort of like a franchise and while generally more pricey than your run of the mill campground, they are also generally well kept and we have a 10% discount card so, we do stay at the KOAs across the country. For this weekend, we decided to stay at the KOA off I-80 near Mercer, PA. What a nice place this is! We have a very long site with full hook ups and cable. This part of Pennsylvania is lovely,...

Jul 8, 2015 - Day 1

Every journey begins on a route well traveled. As you leave home you have a few options available to you, but each one is familiar and can be traveled quickly, unless you live in New Jersey where traffic and accidents hamper any trip. Our choices for getting across Pennsylvania were the Pennsylvania Turnpike or Rt. 80. Not wanting to pay the tolls, and being very familiar with Rt. 80, we decided to take the northern route. But an accident on Rt. 78 brought us to a standstill for more than 20 minutes and construction zones in New Jersey and...

Lay of the land

Sep 20, 2014 - Mercer/Grove City KOA

We had a wonderful time visiting friends at the Carriage Rally. Yesterday we drove north to Grove City Pennsylvania on our trip home. We decided to enter Canada at Fort Erie, and avoid all the construction on Interstate 75, via the Detroit route that we took on the way south. Yesterday was a big 9 hour drive day, but leaves a shorter 5 hour trip today. Grove City KOA is one of our preferred campgrounds when passing through this area. It has nice pull-through sites with wifi, and cable if our satellite is blocked by trees. Last night they...

We arrived at our usual KOA on the homebound trip. We arrived here, all shopped out and not going outlet shopping. I am settled in watching the Masters and later NASCAR from Texas. Wifi is good, and I have satellite for tonight's race. We are about 5 hours plus a border crossing from home. If all goes well, I will be at home and back to work on Monday.

Apr 12, 2012 - Mercer/Grove City KOA

Tonight should be our final night on the road for a while. We drove north-east to Pittsburgh, and then north to Mercer County. This is another one of Glenna's favourite outlet malls. Glenna did a little mall shopping and we have settled in for another night of hockey. I'm still disappointed with the Penguins losing last night. What does Glenna do while I'm driving you ask? This afternoon she was a first time caller to Nascar "Trading Paint" talk show. She has become a Nascar Momma! We are still adjusting to the cool weather. It was close to...

Jan 18, 2010 - On The Move South

Glenna and Jason returned home from their Bridgepoint appointment shortly after lunch. All systems were "GO". Jason has completed his stage 1 rehab and doing very well. Glenna has had the trailer packed and ready to go . We started south shortly after 2 PM. The roads were perfect. We crossed the border without a hitch. I had some concerns about rush hour in Buffalo, but forgot it was an American holiday (Martin Luther King Day). Traffic was light as we crossed I90 to Erie and then south on I79 to Grove City.

Aug 14, 2008 - Grove City, PA

On Monday, we drove from Greentown, PA to Grove City, PA. Along the way, we made a short, quick detour to see Hazelton, PA where our friend (Krista’s high school classmate) Krista McGinnis tells of visiting her family. On Tuesday, we went for a run on a great loop trail at Hunter’s Farm Park along Wolf Creek. Then, in the evening, we went to Sharon, PA for dinner where we met Frank Nance (Bruce’s college friend) and Frank’s wife, Peggy … it had been nearly 25 years since Bruce and Frank had gotten together. On Thursday, went for one more...

Jan 31, 2008 - It's official, We're on the move!

Glenna officially joined the ranks of the retired this afternoon. At about 2:30 we got on the road. The Weather Network is calling for a major snowstorm, so we thought we would get a jump on our holiday and get through Buffalo before the storm hit. We had a nice afternoon drive down the QEW and crossed at Fort Erie. We headed west across I90 to Erie and then south on I79 to Grove City. We are 50 miles from Pittsburgh. It's no coincidence we are at Grove City. If we get snowed in tomorrow, Glenna is 500 feet from one of her favourite Outlet...

Aug 22, 2007 - Aug 22, RV Hall of Fame Museum

Aug 22. Went to the RV Motor Home Hall of Fame Museum. It was in a beautiful new building that was a work in progress. They are planning more space for larger models. We saw three of the latest RV, and pop=ups. I really liked the new Leprechaun which had a hallway, and an enclosed bathroom with entrances into eh master bedroom and in the hall. It was beautiful. The pop=up had a platform for a "toy" and a potty and shower. Quite a small home away from home for beginning RVers. The exhibit hall had RV and trailers from as far back as 1928,...
