Jun 20, 2019 - Brookings OR

Brookings OR Day 37: Thursday June 20, 2019 We pulled out of our site in Charleston at 9:05 am; we had to back track through Coos Bay to reach US 101 before we headed south to Brookings—our last stop on the Oregon coast. About 80 miles south of Coos Bay we crossed the Rogue River Bridge and entered the town of Gold Beach. We’re able to pull off into a parking area so that Maryann could take pictures of the Rogue River Bridge and the wreck of the Mary D Hume—which we’ve been tracking since our first trip along the coast in the fall of...

Traveling to Brookings along the Highway 101, 115 miles in 2.5 hours. Today our journey took us driving thru the Giant Redwoods, by the Pacific Ocean & along some Lagoons and Sloughs, as well as through some bumpy road repairs. We began seeing some rocky areas along the ocean with what they call Haystacks (more common in Oregon). We crossed the Klamath River with Golden Bear statues at both ends of the bridge. After Crescent City we also crossed the (Jedediah) Smith River and soon crossed into Oregon. After arriving and setting up our...

Aug 24, 2017 - Harris Beach state park

Before we headed south, we went over to Shore Acres to see the botanical gardens that were planted in the early 1900s. They've been kept up beautifully with plants and trees from all over the world. The views of the ocean with big cliffs was the reason Louis Simpson bought all this land in 1906 and ended up giving it to Oregon. We went back to the Fisherman's wharf and bought 2 Dungeness crabs for supper as well as some halibut cheeks. We found 101 again and followed it right along the coast. The weather was great so we could see way out to...

Jul 1, 2017 - Got to AtRivers Edge RV Resort

I got to AtRivers Edge RV Resort yesterday. This is a very nice campground. I will be here for the next 3 months as an evening host. The office closes at 7pm and I will park anyone coming in between 7 and 9pm 5 days a week. The average weather here is 60s in the day and 50s at night. That is a lot better than 110 in Apache Junction. There are about 10 workcampers here.

May 16, 2017 - Just out joy riding

Yesterday (Monday) we had to take the truck into the dealership, we had a shimmy in the steering wheel. So after a having new front rotors put on, we took off for a joy ride. We decided to head up to Bandon, Or. (about an 80 mile drive...one way). So of course the camera is sitting in my lap & of course we had to snap off a few photos (thats what we do...LOL). While in Bandon, we took in Old Town area where there's the usual specialty shops & restaurants. So here's just a few photos from our drive up Hwy 101.

May 12, 2017 - Taking in Coastal Views

On Wednesday we took a drive up the coast (driving up to Gold Beach & back). The views were spectacular, we got out at almost all the view points & turnouts. Took a couple of walks down paths that were tree lined & saw some beautiful flowers (would love to plant some in the desert) but we're sure they'd never survive Arizona's heat.

May 10, 2017 - Destination Brookings, Oregon

We spent a week in Eugene,Oregon where we visited with family & got a couple of much needed repairs on the 5th-wheel done. We had a list for our favorite repair tech, but found that we didn't need as much as we thought needed to be done. Our next destination was Brookings,Oregon...we've been through the area before but never stopped to see the nearby sights. So yesterday we hooked up the 5th-wheel & headed for the coast. We took a wide track to get here, driving south on I-5 till we got to Grants Pass where we turned onto Hwy 199. From Hwy...

Sep 5, 2016 - Moving Day

Today was another hard day. John and I put in a lot of hard hours moving stuff into the house. It is amazing how much we have accumulated and stored in the tiny space of the motorhome. -- I am trying to find places for everything in the house, and things that I do not need in the house, I will leave in the motorhome or give to Goodwill. I don't want to sell the motorhome for a while. We do not know yet what the winters are like in Brookings, and I want to make sure we will be happy here all year. I think we will. -- The cats have...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Sep 4, 2016 - We're Baaaaack!!

We were exhausted once again and both of us went to bed early and slept hard. It has been a very hard and stressful week. -- John got me up at the crack o' dawn and we were on the road early. Traffic was light which was what John was hoping for. -- I was afraid to turn off the engine whenever we stopped, but we had to get gas in Grants Pass, so John turned it off. It started up just fine. I have to admit that I have lost my confidence in the rig. I think we were both worried all the way home but we did not have any problems...
