Jan 5, 2017 - A Good Day's Run

We got up and enjoyed the great buffet at the hotel for breakfast, loaded up and started our run. There had been some snow forecasted, so we thought we might only get to Windsor. At least we had no rain today, a little bit of sun, a lot of cloud and some snow. Thankfully, the winds weren't as bad as yesterday. We were having a good run, and it was only 3:30, so we decided to cross the border and see how far we got before twilight. At the bridge to Detroit, Mike pulled into the Duty Free parking and Michelle ran across the entry road to...

Texas Again

Oct 1, 2016 - Toledo Ohio

Today will be our last day on the road for this trip. The one thing I was concerned about was all the Indian Reservation we drove thru. Since most of the trip was thru forest I worried that a Indian war party could come out of the woods and ambush us. Then they would rape us, scalp us and kill us. We would have our last resting place on the New York Thruway. Thanks goodness we never had to slow down to be a target. At least out west you can see them coming across the desert. Not much to take pictures of since it was all forest that were...

2016 New England

Sep 1, 2015 - Westward Ho

Having said good-bye to friends and family, I headed for the “mid-west”. After I passed through New York, the driving got significantly lighter. In New England and much of the East Coast, interstate highways are typically two or three lanes on each side plus a break-down lane on the right. This makes the highway a total of 6-8 lanes wide. On occasion, there would be five or more lanes on each side. Each lane was filled with traffic. All of the changed after New York. In Pennsylvania and Ohio, the interstate highways are still two to three...

Jul 20, 2014 - Sunday trip to Toledo

Today we will break camp and head north for home again. We got out of Olive Branch Campground at 11:00 am. The drive was very good because it appeared we would be driving in some rain but the skies cleared and the sun came out. We did stop at the new Camping World in Rossford on the way home, just saw it was open as we passed. A new store, new people and no one knows anything, just amazing. Got home around 4:00 pm and that is the end of another journey for this time. Till next time.

2014 Memphis

Apr 24, 2014 - Delayed in Toledo (posted from Chicago!)

This is my first Chicago blog update, which I am actually writing somewhere between there and here, which is somewhere past Toledo, OH, so I’m labeling as such. So far, the Capitol Limited is running a svelt hour and a half behind due to a large tanker ship holding up a drawbridge in Toledo. The engineer is currently doing his best to make up time. I just transferred all of my photos to date onto my harddrive, so I can go and start putting pictures in my TripJournal, as I’m not sure how many I can upload at once, or how many entries I’m...

Apr 18, 2014 - Friday April 18, 2014

Time for us to get back on the road for Memphis Tennessee. Decided that we would leave a little early so we finished loading the motorhome and pulled out around 2 pm. We wanted to drive the new US 24 route to Ft. Wayne since it is now 4 lane road the entire trip. The trip sure reduces the time for the trip and it’s kind of scenic driving thru the farmland of northern Ohio. The only issue was the wind blowing out of the west that we bucked for the entire drive, in the motorhome it is like a big sail going down the road. Arrived at the...

2014 Memphis

Mar 15, 2014 - Toledo Ohio

Today is a new chapter in our lives as we begin our first journey as a retired couple. It is a different feeling to know we do not need to be anywhere at any certain time. We started out about 8:30 am for the drive to Chip’s to visit for the night and leave for Savannah after his early morning service. The drive was my first on the turnpike in several years due to the overcharging of the motorhome with the tow vehicle. We got the ez-pass for the motorhome so it will be interesting when I look up what the cost was. The drive over was very...

Oct 3, 2013 - Thursday October 3, 2013

Our trip started at 1:30 pm from home as we pulled out from home for our southern trip. Our plan is to drive to exit 171 at Walton KY for fuel and stop for the night. The weather was beautiful and traffic was moving very well until we go to Exit 15, north of Cincinnati. I was told around Exit 6 there was construction where traffic was pretty slow because of this. I thought that wouldn’t be so back, wrong, the traffic back up began at Exit 15 and was stop and go until we reached the bridge over the Ohio River. We got to the Flying J at...

2013 North Carolina

Sep 22, 2013 - Chicago, IL to Toledo, OH

(Sandi writing) We left Chicago late this morning, taking some time to do a load of laundry at the hotel. We missed a turn out of Chicago and spent an extra 40 minutes trying to find an entry to the toll road. We are taking I-90 East for now. It's amazing that we hit three states today- Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. We got off at South Bend,IN and drove around the University of Notre Dame campus. After lunch nearby, we then spent another 45 minutes or so trying to find the entrance to the turnpike. Ron and I are saying "what a pain" in...

Jun 11, 2012 - Hello? Is this thing on?

D minus 16 days and counting until we set off. The plan is to spend from June 27th to August 5th on the road and testing out the lifestyle. We're going to free-form it, probably getting to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Wisconsin including Door County, Minnesota, Ontario's North Shore of Lake Superior, and who knows what else. In the middle of the trip, Kent will be sailing the Chicago-Mackinac sailing race on Lake Michigan from Chicago to Mackinac Island (duh!) aboard Quick Silver, a 41-footer from St.Joseph, Michigan while Sandy and...
