Aug 8, 2019 - Sandusky Ohio and Put-in-Bay

Leaving Buffalo, we stop for some cheap gas ($2.15/gal) at the reservation and headed to Sandusky OH. First day was a bit rainy but we toured around the second day. One of their major claims to fame is a coal loading mechanism. It can unload an entire train car of coal into a ship in no time flat. We went to a museum and learned the history of the town centered around the transportation of coal on the great lakes. Next we took a ferry out to Put-In-Bay, a touristy resort style town on one of the islands. This is where Oliver H. Perry...

Jul 10, 2019 - Cedar Point Amusement Park July 8-10

We left Cleveland/Medina area and backtrekked to northwest Ohio to go to Cedar Point Amusement Park. On July 8th, we traveled and stayed at Camp Sandusky RV Park a few miles from Cedar Point. The RV park had a little brood of rabbits that were available to feed and pet. We akso too advantage of their nice swimming pool. The next Day, July 9th, we drove over to Cedar Point. Cedar Point is a well known park often featured on television travel channels. It called the "Roller Coaster Capital of the World" for good reason. The whole park is...

May 7, 2019 - Down Memory Lane

When Tom and I married we never dreamed that we would live in Sandusky, Ohio for 10 years. We had three children and met some pretty wonderful people while we were there. I just visited one of them in Knoxville. Don't know what I would have done without Kate in Sandusky. I drove to the "old neighborhood" today and remembered how much Kate, Rick, Tom and I did together in those 2 houses across the street from one another. Drove further into town ( which I hardly recognized after all these years.) Cedar Point Amusement Park is the big...

Aug 21, 2016 - Sandusky OH

August 21 Moved again, this time we are in Sandusky OH so Dianna can do more genealogy research at a cemetery here. Could not provide any updates while at the rally as the WiFi service was too spotty to be of use. While in the Goshen area we went to a couple of Amish communities and had dinner one night at a local Amish restaurant. We also went on a day trip to my adopted alma mater, Notre Dame University. Among other buildings, we saw the Basilica, the Golden Dome and a tour of the stadium and its facilities. The rally was nice, there were...

Jul 18, 2016 - Traveling East

Monday, July 18 – our 35th wedding anniversary! Wow – we’re not that old! It was hard leaving Jim’s, we had such a wonderful time – we MUST do this again…… Had to drive through Chicago today – a little nervous, but not really a problem – no worse than Atlanta. First thing we did was stop & buy a transponder for all the toll roads……. unfortunately, we didn’t realize that it wouldn’t be activated for 48 hours! The guy told us it would work immediately for Illinois, and would take 24-48 hours for the rest of the states, but we thought it would...

Aug 6, 2015 - Sandusky, OH

Leaving Elkhart on US-20 and heading for the Roller Coaster Capital of the World, Sandusky, Ohio. Not to ride the roller coaster, too chicken. US- 6 and then OH-2 for a total of 191 miles and here we are at Camp Sandusky. Camp Sandusky was ok during the week. It's a Passport park so the rate was good and they did offer us more than the stated one night at Passport rate. It's certainly not a fancy park. The telling point was over 100 one room cabins available. Friday night, the cabins filled up quickly with people coming out from...

Jul 15, 2015 - Sandusky, Ohio

Today Ross and Marge left the campground in Elkhart, Indiana and drove to a campground in Sandusky, Ohio. As was mentioned previously this portion of their trip is an experiment to see if they can avoid all the toll roads in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts by using the non-toll roads that basically parallel the tool roads. Their destination for this portion of their trip is the Boston Minuteman Campground which is located off of Interstate 495 near Boston. They will likely stay their two days and visit their...

2015 New York Trip

Jun 26, 2015 - Cedar Point

Jainan – WOO! We went to Cedar Point! The Roller Coaster Capital of the World. It was arguably my favorite part of the trip. Unfortunately we couldn’t go on the epic rides like the Raptor, of Rougharo, or Millennium Force, or Magnum XL 2,000, or any of those because Taira was scared, but we did do the Gemini and Corkscrew so… Anyways my favorite ride was the Gemini, followed closely by the Corkscrew, then the Blue Streak, then the Pipescream, then a bunch of small rides we did for Taira’s sake. We did do the Snake River and Thunder Canyon...

East Loop Trip 2015

Sep 1, 2014 - The Buckeye State

Well we are in the Buckeye State. That's Ohio for those of you that are geographically challenged. We stopped here because Dianna wants grave photos of all my relatives buried here in Sandusky. The trip across the northern states on US 2 was fairly nice. The road surface was as good as most interstates and better than some others. And since I only pull the trailer at 55 mph anyway, I can make almost as good time on the back roads as on the interstates. We will be here for 3 nights then continue heading for Merritt Island with stops at...

Aug 11, 2014 - Cedar Point - Ohio

Not long after we left Niagara Falls, we enjoyed the liberation of passing through our final toll booth on our way out of New York. We stopped at a Flying J to empty our tanks and lighten the load a little, then proceeded on toward Sandusky, OH. The drive was smooth and uneventful for us, but traffic heading east was backed up for miles... and we passed more than a few traffic snafus on the way. We arrived in Sandusky a day prior to our reservation at Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point, and stayed at Camp Sandusky, a large campground a mile...

Jul 8, 2014 - Past the Steelers and the Browns

Another traffic free day with me calling no one "Precious". Ran through a couple of pretty heavy thunderstorms, but all drivers were polite and exercised caution. They sure made Linda's day quiet! Drove through Pittsburgh and Cleveland without any rocks being thrown at this Ravens fan or the Redskin fan beside me. FYI, KOA's aint much, but that's where we are for tonight.

Sep 27, 2013 - Sandusky Ohio

9/26 Arrive Camp Sandusky Campground. It's a very big campground with hundreds, really, of cabins. Most of them tiny but some only really small. Not very busy but only a few miles from cedar point. We park under an apple tree and there are more around. 9/27 Mostly a school day for the kids. I have been having trouble with the van starting since before we left home. I thought it was the battery but with a new battery I still have the problem. I'm pretty sure it's the starter. I always try to talk to the people parked near us and today...
