Sep 4, 2018 - Archbold OH, Sauder Village

We’ve made it to Sauder Village, in Archbold Ohio. We spent two days enjoying some of the history that was preserved in this village and got a chance to meet some very interesting folks continuing the trades of many many years ago. The RV park was attached to the village and we had a beautiful spot. It was a good size park and we found our timing found us having only several neighbors. (See www.saudervillage.org) We also visited red rambler coffee in Wauseon (the next town over) and found some amazing coffee and craft beer. .... imagine...

Aug 17, 2018 - The Journey Begins

2018-08-19. The Journey Begins We left Doylestown on Thursday, August 17, and headed to Timothy Lake South campground in the Poconos near Delaware Water Gap. Initially, the plan was to stay until Saturday but, when talking about the miles to cover by Monday when we are scheduled to be in the Chicago area, we decided to start the trip on Friday instead. So, we left Timothy Lake and headed west along I-80. Where else would we stay the first night but a Wal-Mart; this time in Grove City, Pennsylvania. We parked in the horse and buggy section...

Aug 6, 2018 - Archbold, Ohio

We wake up to thunder, lightning and rain. I am always surprised when it rains. After all, I am on vacation. We go out to breakfast. We continue to head south on Route 31. For a couple of exits, we are on I94 headed to Chicago. Boy does that feel wrong. We make our way to I80 in Indiana. We cross the state and are in Ohio. In one day! Yesterday, there was just enough wind at the right angle to make driving miserable. Had we not called ahead, we would have called it quits much sooner. Today, there is no problem with the wind. The rain passes...

Sep 21, 2017 - Sauder Village

I find that I am way behind in posting. So, I am going to just post where we have been and then back fill details and photos. We are heading back east. We had originally planned to stay at Sauder Village for four nights, but it was not available. Now that we are here, I am glad than we will only stay for two nights. The site is fine, but there isn't much going on hers.

Jul 27, 2017 - Archbold, Ohio

For those holding their breath, we are still on the road. We make it to Ohio. We head south and then east. We cross Indiana. We do not see Indiana. We are on the interstate. It is where we need to be. We are not driving at high speed. We keep the engine cool. We drive for thirty to forty minutes. John checks the coolant. The last few stops have been good. We don’t know for sure why she is burning off coolant but we know how to keep her going. This much driving is tiring. We stop at Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio. I know nothing about the...

Aug 11, 2012 - President invents a cavern

We had an agenda yesterday. It was a mostly rainy day as Shirley drove us to planned stops. First was the birthplace of Thomas Alva Edison in Milan OH. They had a museum and his house in this quaint town that boomed before the railroad killed the canal trade. It was a very informative tour. Next up was Bellevue OH and a tour of the Seneca Caverns. Don and Shirley went down, down while Jeanne and I practiced our opting technique and sat this one out. The two hearty ones said the tour was terrific but demanding and very small in places. Then...

Apr 25, 2011 - On Our Way Home

After visiting my Mom and saying good-bye to everyone, we left Arlington Heights at 1:15 p.m. and drove for 4 1/2 hours to Archbold, Ohio which is not far from the Indiana border. We're traveling on the Turnpikes so once we left the Chicago area, the driving was easy. Most campgrounds open May 1, but I found one that is part of Historic Sauder Village. The Sauder Woodworking Company owner started this historic village. Maybe on another trip we will enjoy the indoor pool in the Inn and see the village, but on this trip, we are barreling home!

Sep 12, 2006 - Thru Indiana & Ohio

We left the Chicago suburbs and traveled east along Interstate 80 which goes along the bottom of Lake Michigan, the top of Indiana, the bottom of Michigan, the top of Ohio, the bottom of Lake Erie. We stopped for the night in Archbold after traveling all day in the fog and drizzle. We are heading to Erie, PA to meet up with our friends from Manor PA Elks for a fun weekend at the Erie Elks Lodge.
