Oct 10, 2017 - Visiting with Chic & Marilyn

Today, I started my trip to Indiana by going as far as Norwich and leaving my RV at the Walmart there. I then drove up to Chic & Marilyn's house for a quick visit. I enjoyed catching up on our summer trips and then had the pleasure of eating some of Marilyn's meatloaf - yummy!

May 22, 2017 - 3 day weekend with Chic & Marilyn

I went to see two of my favorite people at their summer home which is one of my favorite places to visit. I just love sitting and watching all the different birds come by. There were lots more than just what I have pictured here - hummers, doves, blue jays, ducks, robins, and more! Spring is s0pecial because of the flowering trees and blooms all over. Spring came late up here so I smelled fresh lilacs, along with the daffodils and trillium! We went to an Amish store on their customer appreciation day and got free hot dogs, drinks, stuffed...

May 28, 2015 - inhabitants of Lake Gerry

I know - Canada Geese are everywhere and they are not intimidated because a person comes nearby. There is a man and his dog on this lake that know how to control the gees population. There used to be about a dozen geese families here, each with about 6-8 babies in the Spring. This guy discovered that if he found the nests and shook the eggs, they wouldn't hatch. So this year, there are only 2 families and 8 babies! Everyone living along the lake is very thankful to Mike and his dog!

Sep 17, 2014 - view from Chic & Marilyn's house

After my "job" was done at UPDE, I left my motorhome at the campground and drove up to see Chic & Marilyn for a few days. I've shown you Lake Gerry before, but this morning was so beautiful, I couldn't help myself but take more pictures. They have lots of bird feeders around the yard and enjoy seeing many hummingbirds, chickadees, woodpeckers, and many other birds. They also have at least one black squirrel that is very active! One neighborhood cat comes to sit under a birdfeeder and watch the birds and chipmunks also - named Tom.

May 17, 2014 - Gerry Lake

All the rivers I encountered on the way to Chic & Marilyn's house were high. The Chenango River overflowed its banks into the farm fields. The lake outside their house was high also. The birds are back. Hummingbirds here are tiny, not like the big ones in Costa Rica. They are also fast and it's impossible to get a picture of them! Marilyn arranged for a great meal with friends this afternoon. I got to see Cammie, the youngster of the lake who is 2 years old!

Sep 10, 2013 - Happy Days at Lake Gerry

Chic & Marilyn have a nice house on a private lake outside the hamlet of Oxford. Everyone who comes to visit them enjoys themselves and feels very comfortable. We even get a good night's sleep on the very first night here! This picture was a quick one of them clinking their glasses as they do every day at about 5 PM. I realized I had the wrong setting on the camera, so it isn't clear. I'll have to do better next time! This is a good place to recuperate and wind down after my fulltime summer job at UPDE. I did get to eat dinner with Heidi &...

Jul 2, 2013 - visit to friends on Gerry Lake

I loved that I could go visit really good friends a couple of hours away (everyone seems to be at least that long a trip) and experience an attitude adjustment with them. We were all in down moods at the beginning of the visit but much better off at the end. We didn't do anything exciting, just spent quality time together. A couple of neighbors stopped in because they heard i was coming and they don't get to see me much - how great is that? I was invited to bring my motorhome to the "cove" after my job here is finished and I went to check...

Sep 26, 2011 - Double Wedding on Lake Gerry!

Very good friends of mine decided to get married after 45 years together! Their close friends from Florida (and friends of mine) came up for a tournament in Rochester and had been thinking about getting married in New York. So, Marilyn did a lot to orchestrate having a double wedding at their home! Very few people knew Cindy & Nancy, but by the end of the day, everyone got to know everyone else. People gave them cards and presents also, so they ended up feeling very comfortable here. Just a testament to the quality of friends that Chic &...

Aug 20, 2011 - friends on the west side of the Catskills

On Thursday, I trekked on over the Catskills to see some dear friends. I stopped at a few places on the way to find some letterboxes and that was fun. I visited with Melrose Kelly, my employer last summer, for about an hour before settling down at Chic & Marilyn's house. There I ate some really good corn on the cob and shared a few laughs. This was the weekend called "Lake Gerry Days" where the neighbors around the lake gather and have fun together. I attended a good breakfast on Saturday morning and learned about the boat parade to occur...

May 30, 2010 - Memorial Day picnic

I spent a glorious day with friends (some new ones too) at the home of Chic and Marilyn on Gerry Lake. I forgot to bring my camera! But Linda saved the day and took pictures and then sent them to me! As you can see, we enjoyed the lake, played ladderball, had a wine-tasting event, and ate lots of food! Only wish I had a picture of Linda to show here!

Summer in New York

Aug 28, 2008 - visiting friends in Oxford, NY

On Tuesday, the 26th, I got word that my insurance company (GMAC) will cover the estimate ($1322) for repairing the front body mounts of my motorhome, less my $500 deductible. SO, the repair shop started working on it after their lunch break and I packed and went to Chic and Marilyn's house in Oxford - south of Oneonta. While visiting, we rowed on their little lake (there are about a dozen homes around this lake with exclusive rights to it) soaking up the afternoon sun. I was treated to excellent meals consisting of stuffed green peppers,...
