Heading south through the Adirondacks after driving up Vermont to within a mile of Canada to cross into NY. Beautiful country with lots of lakes and mountains. Stopped in Tupper Lake at the Raquette River brewery to try their double IPA. Very good beer- similar to Bill's! Drove on down to Lewey Lake cc where we got a site on the lake.

Oct 2, 2009 - In the Adirondacks

In many of the online forums I found in pre-planning my trip, Old Forge, NY was described as a tourist trap. Although I can certainly see if it were the middle of the summer perhaps there are some over-priced entertainment venues that would catch the eye (or pocketbook) of some travelers with children. (Obviously, the forum subscribers have never been down Hwy. 76 in Branson, MO!!!). I can only say that my experience was just the opposite during this fall visit. Oct 18, 2008 - the Wild in us

Nature Museum of the Adirondacks - Saturday, October 18 Last night by 8:00 PM the temperature was 37 degrees and before morning it got down to 28 degrees. We pulled in our slide for the night, which minimizes our outside wall exposure and makes less volume inside to heat. It worked well. We stayed warm and we didn’t loose any water hoses to freezing. Jul 21, 2007 - Indian Lake

We just moved to Ft. Drum and my friend Bruce called up and asked if we wanted to go "island camping" on Indian Lake. These are camp grounds that can only be reached by boat. We said we would love to and I got our canoe ready. I asked Bruce how far the camp site was from the put in and he said "The ranger will give you a map at the boat launch. It might look far but it isn't really that far." I was glad that it would be a short trip since it was me and Minhee's first canoe camping trip.
