About a 20 mile loop, great scenery of apple orchards and parks along the river. Desert here, everything is irrigated. 8/10 Left campground, drove all day on scenic routed 12 over the continental divide. Very winding road following the...

Jun 19, 2019 - Roomies

I lingered longer than the rest of the gang today as we broke camp. Not due back in Billings until later in the afternoon, I stayed on with host and college roommate Peggy to visit another of Glendive treasures, a beautiful old Lutheran Church, now decommissioned and converted into a sweet little spot selling old and new goods. I like how this town has reclaimed places worth saving. Just like we BBB’s have preserved and nurtured our friendships. Then I was off back along the Yellowstone River to Billings for another visit with my well...

Jun 13, 2019 - Billings

We mostly followed U.S. 212 from Rapid City to Billings, MT. It was just over 300 miles and was an uneventful and relatively scenic drive. We arrived at the Billings KOA and began to set up in site M6. All went well until I attempted to extend the slide outs. Nothing happened! It was too late to call Tiffin. So, with several phone calls, I found a mobile repair guy who could come out the next morning. We spent the night at the Quality Inn. Early the next morning, I was able to reach Don in the electrical systems department at Tiffin. Don...

May 5, 2019 - Billings MT

We are parked at the Billings KOA – as mentioned a couple years ago, it’s the original KOA – and after gabbing with some neighbors we hit the road for a couple errands then back to the house for a much needed shower before dinner. We met up with my brother and sister-in-law at the MacKenzie River Pizza Co. for more gabbing than eating, then after the first wave of catching up with the all latest family news, we called it a night. Thursday morning we had an appointment to get our safety recall done. However, the morons at the service center...

Oct 5, 2018 - Driving to Billing, Montana

This morning we woke up to freezing cold. The truck was frozen over and hard to get into. When I took Brady out first thing in the morning it was probably 29 degrees. After breakfast and I thawed the truck out, we went on a scenic route through the town of Butte. The information was pretty cool and it was neat to see how the town was change from the past. We finished the tour with a visit to the Brinkley Pit. It was suppose to cost us $2.00 each, but there was no one to collect it. So It was free. Once we got on our way we headed up into...

Aug 25, 2018 - Day 2 - 4

Spent 3 mights at the KOA Holiday in Billings. World of Outlaws Sprints at Big Sky Speedway on 25 Sug - great racing, a bit dusty and cramped seating but the facility was terrific and had lots of camping space. A bit further out from Billings than we thought, so maybe camp at the track another time. Really well run facility.

Jul 24, 2018 - Billings MT – Cabela’s Parking Lot

Finally made it to Montana. Walmart was too crowded so we came to Cabela’s to stop for the night. It’s a small Cabela’s, but I still tried to find something to spend my points on in the store. No such luck. I couldn’t even find a cast iron griddle to buy! They usually have a lot of cast iron cookware for tenters, etc. Maybe next time…..

Jun 16, 2018 - Rain, rain, go away

Billings, MT Today it is pouring rain, confining our explorations. We started indoors. Moss Mansion was inhabited solely by Mr. and Mrs. Moss, their 6 children, and 3 servants. The house was built for $105,000, compared to a national average of $3,000 in 1903. It has 28 rooms, and is 60’ square, rising 45’ into the air. The high-end interior decoration includes wood paneling, walls with gold threading, marble fireplaces, columns and even a vintage intercom system, all of which are original to the home. In addition the house is furnished...

Jun 15, 2018 - Custer's Last Stand

Billings, MT Jim was delighted with the day as far as wildlife. We spotted 103 antelope and 2 deer in our 183 mile journey. Our first stop of the day was at the Custer Battlefield Museum. We watched a 45 minute video that corrected a number of our false notions about General George Armstrong Custer and his demise. Major Reno’s force made the first attack against the large Indian encampment of as many as 3,000 Native Americans but were repelled. Reno and his men were taking casualties and had to retreat up from the river valley to the hills...

Jun 7, 2018 - Travel to Billings, MT

Traveled 338 miles to Billings Montana today, drive time of 5hr-30 min. Total trip thus far is 1140 miles and 17 hr- 40 min. Not far north of Douglas, WY is reportedly one of three natural bridges over water in the US. This is worth the stop and there is no charge. The Little Big Horn site was a memorable site that we really enjoyed. There was a storm approaching that hurried us just a little bit. We had high winds and hard rain for half an hour or so, but we drove on into Billings in fair weather after that. The drive has been pretty with...
