Jun 9, 2019 - St. Joseph, MO - AOK Camground -

We arrived at the AOK Campground and RV Park around 4:30. It is a pretty park with two small lakes, a pool, and all the other things one would expect. We were escorted to our site by the owners, Dale & Sandy. Dale guided us into our site. After parking, Dale thought our coach looked low on the drivers side. He looked under the wheels and noticed that three leaf springs on the rear axle were broken and the main leaf spring was bent over backwards. Dale said it could be very dangerous and even life threatening if the main leafs were to...

Jul 3, 2017 - Still in St. Jo

July 3rd: Despite the dust, we had a pretty good stay over an extra day at A-OK. We met some nice people at the campsite next door, I had a swim in a very nice pool with no kids, Glenda did some laundry, and we cooked out for dinner. I tried the fishing…caught nothing and lost one rubber worm and hook (50 cents). Another guy fishing down there caught two little bream and one bass under a pound, but lost a $5 lure. Who did better?? The proprietor says there are some pretty mean snapping turtles in there (remove them if caught, hah, how would...

Jul 2, 2017 - St. Joseph, Missouri

Today, July 2nd, we traveled a short day, on some good routes around Kansas City, again thanks to our trucker son for the routing advice. Traffic was light because it was Sunday anyway and we easily made it to St. Joseph, Missouri, to a campground we hoped would be a nice place to spend an extra day, because of the holiday weekend traffic, because we need to do laundry, and because I’m tired. So, we’re at the A-OK Campground, endorsed by Good Sam and FMCA, which seems to be a nice place, but the road going in is gravel with no room to pass...

Aug 24, 2016 - St. Joseph, MO to Wall, SD

We made it to Wall, SD, just outside The Badlands entrance. Once we got past Sioux Falls, SD, you could see for miles, flat and straight. But fields of beautiful sunflowers. Tomorrow is The Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Needles Hwy. It's totally different country, vast, vast spaces. Can't imagine what the winters would be like.

Rocky Mountains-2016

Jun 2, 2015 - Ft Leavenworth

Saturday, May 23 We headed back east toward KC then turned north, on the Lewis & Clark Trail and more or less following the Mighty Mo (Missouri River). I don’t remember if I wrote this earlier – one pioneer said of the Mo that “it is too thin to plough and too thick to drink”. Pretty good description I say. With all the rain that we have had she, and all the other streams around, are at least full bank and very muddy. We pulled into a Walmart near Leavenworth, unhooked the Jeep and headed to Ft Leavenworth. There was a long line to get in....

Mar 13, 2015 - Good ole school days

St. Joseph, MO The internet says that the trip from our house to St. Jo should take about 2 hours and is 151 miles. We, of course, proved that to be incorrect. It took 6 hours and almost 200 miles. We left home at the crack of dawn as we usually do. Because of Daylight savings time, this turned out to be 10 am. By 1 pm we were in Maryville, Missouri, home to Northwest Missouri State University. This is Jim's Alma Mater. There we met Jessica at Owen's Library. Jim donated some yearbooks he found when we cleaned out the attic and Jessica gave...

Oct 30, 2013 - Disney, Pony Express, and the Wild things

We left Hannibal and stopped at Marceline, MO which is the boyhood home of Walt Disney. He patterned Main Street at Disneyland after the downtown area of Marceline, and we could actually see some resemblance. The guide we had was very knowledgeable and also a great cheerleader for Disney, filling us in on all that Walt had done for the town. She was very good and made it much more interesting than it might have been otherwise and we definitely felt it was worth the stop. From there we headed west across Missouri to St. Joseph which is the...

Sep 9, 2013 - St. Joseph, Mo

We are in St. Joe Mo. We got here Monday, September 9. The weather in NE and KS was crazy hot and it is not much better here. After we checked in we were pulling out to go to Walmart and we ran into Dennis and Sandy, friends from Texas. They live here in the summer and we didn’t even know it. We just happen to stay in the same park as them. The boys in the park have a happy hour each day and just sit around lying to each other. I am having a great time and Judy gets to visit with her friends from Texas. Judy and I went to the casino Tuesday...

Jul 15, 2013 - Third stop - July 15th

This is the 4th time we have stopped at The Beacon RV Park in St Joseph. It is not a great park, but it is half way from the last stop to the next stop. They have no pool and no amenities except laundry room. We left the Lazy Day RV Park this morning about 10:00am. The trip was uneventful and about 222 miles. We arrived about 3:00pm CT. I had to cross a major street to get my Lottery tickets. Tomorrow we leave for Kearney, NE on I80. Kay started calling the next stops for reservations and found out that our Cheyenne stop had no sites...
