Aug 20, 2012 - To Greensboro, MD

In the west, we dealt with the Cascades and the Rockies. In the east, we face the Appalachians. We stick to the Interstate. Mountains have to be crossed. The climbing is not bad. We are surprised that the traffic is light. At Hagerstown, we make a decision. We continue east on Interstate 70 and deal with Baltimore. Again, the traffic is light. We continue past Annapolis. The Bay Bridge is crazy. Every time we cross it, there is construction. One span has two-way traffic. We avoid that span! We stop at the Fisherman’s Inn for lunch. We have...

Jul 9, 2012 - Baltimore and Annapolis

Today we headed into Baltimore. Since we arrived about lunch time, we went to Chap's Pit Beef, one of the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Baltimore seems to have several restaurants that feature pit beef. They take huge beef roasts and slow cook them over a "pit" fire, then slice them very thin and pile the beef on a but. After lunch we drove down to the Inner Harbor area. We walked...

Jul 8, 2012 - Crisfield/Tangier Island

This morning after going to church at a quaint old Episcopal Church in Denton, MD., we traveled down to Crisfield which is at the southern most tip of the Maryland Eastern Shore. It is actually part of Virginia and is an hour and fifteen minute cruise to get there. Upon arrival, we took a golf cart tour of the island. The island which was first...

Jul 7, 2012 - St. Michaels, Oxford and Eastman

We slept late this morning then drove to St. Michaels which is an old shipbuilding center. We stopped first at the Crab Claw, a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike. We ordered a dozen steamed crabs (the specialty) which were served from a tray right onto the paper covered table. We got a mallet and knife and a placemat with directions and we were soon stuffing ourselves with yummy crab. After lunch, we went to the Chesepeak Bay Maritime Museum. This is a shipbuilding museum where restorations are still being done and where you can...
