Oct 13, 2020 - Shreveport, Louisiana

It took a drive up the breadth of Texas South to North to get us here, about 230 miles, but not a bad drive. Now we are on I-20 and we can really make some miles. We like this park and we like that it is on I-20. We will probably stay here again in the future. We have been having problems with our hot water heater. On electricity it does not heat the water to 130 degrees like it is supposed to, but only about 100 degrees. Not hot enough for Janet's shower or washing dishes, but hot enough for me. Fortunately we can also turn on the propane...

Sep 4, 2020 - Shreveport LA

Another overnight KOA park. This one is nice, well laid out, with grassy sites and trees. I would stay here again. The big attraction with KOA RV parks is their reservation system. The parks are OK, some better than others. The reservation system is internet based and I can make a reservation in 5 minutes and be done. Most other parks ask their guests to make their reservation by phone which takes 2-3 times longer. If you have to play telephone tag it becomes even more time consuming and a lot more inconvenient.

Now, HERE’s a story to share: This saying hit really close to home today. A "friend" posted this on FaceBook and hit me directly between the eyes. It said "I’m just going to put an “out of order” sticker on my forehead and call it a day." So – we are in month FIVE of a SEVEN month trip. Add to that the THREE months of planning, making reservations for motels, resorts, military bases, cars, planes, etc., etc. you would THINK that I just may have my “stuff” together. But, nooooooo. After leaving Branson, Missouri the plan was to head almost...

Apr 16, 2019 - Greenwood LA, Southern Living RV Resort

Greenwood is just west of Shreveport. Southern Living RV Resort is just off the highway, and there was a small Pizza Hut across the street. We will be here for just an over night and will head further east tomorrow. From what the forecasts show, the weather will not be as severe in that direction, but the storm is generally heading east right along the I 20 corridor. Lucky us .... We will continue to monitor the weather and adjust accordingly. 2-Ole-Buddies + Bentley.

Jun 22, 2016 - Seeing the Museum, and some Bodacious BBQ

Up the morning and going fairly early so that I could catch the first showing of an IMAX movie about "Our Planet". As I crossed the bridge over the Red River I noticed two things. One, the river is a fairly large river, and two, the river isn't red it is brown. I mean that it looked like liquid mud flowing down. Don't want to swim in that. On to the IMAX. This was a different IMAX than what I had ever seen. This one had a dome ceiling and the projector was in the center of the seats. It was really good and filled your whole vision with the...

Jun 21, 2016 - Heading to Shreveport, LA

Up really early today, we have to get closed up and going because we have to go through Houston this morning and need to beat the traffic. We were on the road by 7 am and had a little bit of traffic but for the most part we got through fairly quickly. The best route would have been on a toll road, but they have one toll plaza on a bridge that does not take cash, you have to have their EZ Pass, which means that you have to be a local (really not very smart). The most direct route would have been through downtown Houston, but that would have...

May 31, 2016 - Shreveport, LA

Our visit with Mac & Dianna and time spent with Julia and family came to an end. Lots of rain while in the area. However, we were able to cook breakfast out Memorial day for our guests. Beautiful morning before the rain started in again later. Left Lewisville,TX Tuesday morning. A very nice day with NO rain. Seeing diesel fuel prices and unleaded gas prices are running the same amount in a number of stations. We paid $2.04 when filling up today. Arrived Shreveport, LA early afternoon. Plan for a two nite stay. One evening we went to a...

2016 Summer Travels

May 25, 2016 - Shreveport, Louisiana

We departed New Orleans this morning under sunny skies and very warm temperatures. Our destination today was Shreveport Louisiana, about 345 miles, where we are staying at the Shreveport Bossier KOA for 1 night. We had good weather for our trip and the traffic was moderate except for the usual craziness around the cities, and the occasional clowns (not my usual description for them) cutting in front of us. We took I-10 West from New Orleans to I-49 North, then LA-3132 West to Shreveport. I-10 was fine until about 15 miles east of I-49 when...

May 8, 2015 - VE-Day

Today is Victory in Europe Day when 70 years ago Germany surrendered to the Allies. Many of the parents of my generation sacrificed a lot so their future families could live in freedom. Please thank them or your grandparents if they are still with us for their part in this momentous victory. The beginning of the end was on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) when Allied forces landed in Normandy. In less than a year they rolled up the German Army to bring an end to the war in Europe. Many of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice stand watch over the...

Oct 22, 2014 - A Surprise Stop in Shreveport, LA

After a nice lunch at the Bush Library we headed further east for a stop in Shreveport, Louisiana. This was an unexpected stop until a few days before. Let me explain. One of my dearest friend's Emily lives in the Atlanta area. She suggested we stop to see her friend Cathy in Shreveport. Cathy and her husband Web had moved from Atlanta to Shreveport a couple of years ago for Cathy's new job, President and CEO of Chimp Haven, a home for over 200 chimpanzees living in retirement. Most are retired from invasive biomedical research under the...
