Jul 23, 2020 - Geocaching And Munzee In The Area

Geocaching shall take you to places that you would never visit or see, Geocaching is a game where you locate by your GPS a small container that has a log sheet that you sign and replace the whole container where you found so other people can have the fun to look for that container and get to see what you got to see in that location. One cache was in Col Sanders Park and across from the train station.

May 20, 2019 - Corbin, KY - Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort

Our trip from Waynesville, NC to Corbin, KY took a little over three hours and covered 168 miles. We took I-40 west over the Smokies to Knoxville; I-640 around Knoxville to I-75 and then north to Kentucky. Traffic was pretty heavy for the Sunday before Memorial Day weekend and we encountered a couple of serious slow ups on I-75 getting out of Tennessee. We are staying at the Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort , also known as the Falls Creek Cabins and Campground. We have a long, level, graveled pull-through with 50 amp full hookups. The site...

May 19, 2019 - Offered Our Old Job Back (Where We Were Blackballed) Now That's funny

May 13-19 I finished last week’s blog before we went out and found several Geocaches fairly close to us last night. I had also done a couple of online surveys from register receipts. So, we had a couple of coupons for BOGO McDonald’s Quarter Pounders. After the Geocaches we went and used them near us. Just like the Big Mac, the Quarter Pounders have gotten smaller also. In last week’ blog I mentioned that Margie wanted a hot fudge sundae with nuts when we went to McDonald’s in Lake City. Along with the other problems with her sundae, I...

Dec 20, 2018 - Pictures from about November 1st 2018 through December 2018 (2 months)

These are almost 90 pictures taken in Key West covering up through the end of 2018 that I just didn't take the time to upload because it was so time consuming. Hopefully you can put them with something you read in the blog. I can only upload 150 pictures in 30 days and I am up to 134 this month. So, it may take a while before I finish Key West.

Sep 2, 2018 - Travelling Back in Time (Well Sort Of)

So we left Tennessee and went to Grove Campground near Corbin, KY where we camp hosted last year. We had been hoping to take a few days and go there anyway since we were close. One of the benefits of working for American Land and Leisure is the ability to camp for three days free at any campground that American Land and Leisure manages. I expected that whoever was currently managing at Grove would not be aware of this benefit and we would have problems using this benefit. I was right. We went ahead and paid for two days until they could...

Oct 26, 2017 - Great Smoky Mountains

We were up early yesterday in Alachua and had breakfast at Waffle House. They are a chain down here and a good quick meal. We had advice from a fellow traveler on what time to hit Atlanta for best survival! He said not to take the bypass, go thru between 10 and 2. We got there about 3 and Cliff had duty since I did Tampa and Miami. It was crazy. 7 lanes coming and going. We did fine. Didn't get messed up at all. There was one accident that slowed us down for about 7 miles, but we keep crawling along. Once out of there we went north in...

Oct 21, 2017 - An even longer overdue update. The first Half-The first campground

Picking up after the rehearsal dinner on April 21st. Again, I will miss a lot and I’m just trying to get caught up so I can be blogging as things happen. The night of the rehearsal dinner we got to take my grandson home to the motor home with us. The next morning I took him to his dad’s (my son’s) house. His dad had to do some things for the wedding and I stayed with the grandson and his two future stepbrothers to help them with their tuxedoes, dress shoes, etc. When he got back I went back home to get Margie. Then we went to the park where...

Oct 21, 2017 - The second half of the update. Our next camping area to manage

We have a much better site at the group area that has a concrete pad with full hook up including 50 amp service. We still believe only having 30 amps and a possible problem with the plugs is why we had the big fuse and the microwave fuses blow at the other campground. One thing we were concerned about was not having a washer and dryer close by. At the other campground they were in the shop right across the street. However, after we got over here and mentioned it we were told we could get a used washer to put in the back room of the shower...

Nov 25, 2016 - Friends Mean The World To Us!

Greetings from Kentucky, the Bluegrass State…..we have now RV’ed in 45 of the 50 states and by the end of this trip, we will hopefully be down to 3 (Montana, North Dakota and Alaska). Now to backtrack a bit…. As we prepared to leave our spot in Charlottesville, Virginia Dennis noticed a noise coming from the engine that was out of the ordinary. Upon inspection, he saw that we had major cracking in the engine/radiator mounts so we made a call to a wonderful friend in the Knoxville area, James. James works in the RV industry and...

May 15, 2016 - Cumberland Falls State Park

2016-05-15.Cumberland Falls State Park, KY We left Scottsville and travelled south to Corbin, Kentucky, home of Colonel Sanders and Cumberland Falls State Park. We stayed at Laurel Lake Campground near Corbin and close to (not surprisingly) Laurel Lake. It was in the 40’s when we got up and windy, so we did not launch the kayaks. In fact, we both were wearing fleeces and jackets all day. Cumberland Falls State Park is lovely and quite a difference from the coastal areas we were in last week. The Appalachian foothills and deep valleys are so...

Jun 14, 2014 - The third day is the charm

For the third day in a row, 5 am saw us up and going. We had spent Friday night in a campground that had tent campers as well as travel trailers. There were lots of fireflies around in the evening, something we don't see too much of in Florida. The family across from our site were tent campers with five children under the age of 10. The dad was trying to put up a large tent while the mom was trying to get the charcoal fire going. It was a competition to see who was worse at their respective jobs. The dad had a child standing guard at each...

May 12, 2014 - On the way to Ohio

This week will be one to remember for sure. Old stuff and new stuff and all kinds of getting to know the RV while traveling again. First the old stuff. I was determined to leave Mebane on Friday morning so we made plans to go out to eat with Gary and Kay Jones owners of the Jones Station RV Park on Tuesday. It was great. The two Garys reveled in their Garyness and we all had a great time at DaVinci's Italian Restaurant. Later we looked over the campground website and the facebook page giving them a little of our knowledge about business...
