Aug 1, 2019 - We are finally on the road.

After about a weeks delay we finally got on the road. Rv’s are a little temperamental, and this one tried to test us. After getting everything loaded, closing up the house, and getting on the road, we made it about 25 miles when the brakes failed. We got them fixed and started out again 2 days later. This time we got out about 30 miles and the brakes failed again. On our third attempt 3 days later, we finally made some headway. We arrived in Robinson IL and enjoyed a great stay with John and Janice. Quite a bit of family showed up and it...

Jul 30, 2019 - Day 18

First, an explanation. On July 30 (as you will soon see) we had a full day, so I didn't get the blog updated that day. Next day we went on our train trip, and I discovered that the train did not have WiFi access, and much of the time had no cellular service. You'll hear more later. Today was our 1 day to explore Chicago. We made a big discovery last night. We found out that the Mets were in town to play the Chicago White Sox that evening. I investigated tickets and discovered that I could buy 2 tickets about 15 rows behind the Mets dugout...

Jul 29, 2019 - Day 17

Today was scheduled to be an easy day. Drive to Chicago, drop off our bags at our hotel, drop off the rental car by 3 PM, have dinner. No problem. The drive was scheduled to be about 3 hours 15 minutes. We left the hotel in Terre Haute at 10:30. We wanted to stop along the way, once for lunch, once to stretch our legs. Figuring that, we should be OK. Miss Google took us along a highway that ran almost straight between Terre Haute and Chicago. It became evident along the way that this part of Indiana has precious little besides cornfields...

Sep 27, 2018 - Heading West

After a VERY busy summer spent mostly in Michigan with side trips to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Chicago, and Wisconsin, I am on my way to Arizona. I spent the last two days in Chicago visiting my son and his family . Got to spend lots of time with my beautiful granddaughter which was an absolute treat. Looking forward to visiting a few places that have eluded me in my travels. Hope the weather holds! Tomorrow Iowa!

Aug 21, 2018 - Chicago Architectural Tour on Chicago River

2018-08-21. Chicago Architecture or...Trump is #2 Nappanee, Indiana to Joliet, Illinois is a study in contrasts between the rural, bucolic farmland of Indiana to the craziness that is I-80 all around Chicago. We decided to try to avoid I-80 as much as possible and, from Nappanee, we got on US 6 and were able to go all the way to Portage, Indiana; an exit after I-80/90, the toll road, changes to I-80/94, the non-toll road. Still, it is worth your life trying to navigate the six lanes of travel while figuring out which road you want in the...

Jun 28, 2018 - Deadwood and the Black Hills

After Yellowstone ( we have forgotten what day of the week it is!)we were off to Deadwood to see the town and Boot Hill ( burial places for Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane). We also had an hysterical bus ride with a guide on caffeine +!!! Donna and I also hit the saino ( if you want to call them that) and we last a total of $25. From there we went to a working ranch where we saw horse training and the like and a history lesson of the Cattlemen's Uprising 1860. we had a great dinner on the range. Yesterday we in the afternoon, we finally...

Jun 25, 2018 - Grand Tetons and Yellowstone

Hi everyone...first off, it's been very difficult making regular entries as internet and cell service is practically non existent out here ( #1 reason I cannot live here, lol). We are having a lot of fun meeting different folks and seeing all of the amazing, spellbinding scenery. The last few days we were in Jackson, WY, a very expensive place to live and somewhat expensive place to visit. We went sown the snake river and felt like Lewis and Clark, taking in the wild life and the Grand Tetons... Today we are in Yellowstone National Park,...

Jun 22, 2018 - Amtrak, Utah and Wyoming

Today was a travel day after our 36 hour Amtrak adventure. The experience was not bad but would have been much better if we had air conditioning! Yep, no air in our sleeping car, not for us or the other 10 folks with rooms within our car. It meant for leaving doors open (shades pulled) so it was like Disney on parade Let's just say we laughed a lot! Donna got the top bunk, me on the bottom. Neither of us got any sleep! Actually no one within the car got any sleep We ate in in the dining car which was pretty neat. They had us in groups of...

We had an uneventful flight ( read wonderful!) to the Windy City Engaged my first Uber ( as Lindsay remarked, finally!) and got to a very nice hotel in the financial District. Had dinner with Rita Higgins last night, a Bergen County alumni in one of the oldest Italian restaurants on south Oakley Avenue. Wonderful, wonderful evening. Hitting Union Statuon later for the gig train ride! Later!

Apr 15, 2018 - Chicago

Left early this morning to get ahead of a storm coming this way. The predicted snowflurries never materialized but freezing cold temps and heavy rain were challenging enough.. Took my time and arrived safely in Chicago by 11 am. Held Ella for a long time - she is a sweetheart. Her parents are wonderful with her and she is thriving!

Nov 13, 2017 - Chicago (In Transit)

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD Our homeward journey from Tbilisi, Georgia took us through Chicago’s O’Hare Airport for the very first time. We were on a direct flight from Istanbul, but the flight was scheduled to arrive so late in the evening that we had to stay overnight before continuing on the next morning. We weren’t exactly wide awake when we entered the moving walkways that took us from one terminal to another. However, the amazing neon lights twisting above our heads jolted us into the here and now! I love them! We were using our...

Oct 24, 2017 - Chicago

Two things - Gordon and I always wanted to go to Chicago and I always immediately want to move to almost all places we have visited in the past 30 years. So we had a few extra days after New Mexico and so decided to drive back to Florida via Chicago. We spent 4 days there and of course I'm ready to move there. Loved it. We stayed in a matchbox sized room in a guesthouse on the northeast side in a neighborhood called Wrigleyville. The Belmont L stop was 1/2 block away. We bought a 3 day unlimited transit pass and took the city buses and...
