Jul 8, 2011 - Rain Water Is Wet !!!!

We went to bed around 1 am after checking the computer and some card games around the table. We our in bed and Norma puts her hand down the front of the mattress and feels that it is wet. I check my side of the bed and found wetness on my side at the top and side down about a foot or so. Not much we can do now, so shall sleep on it until we get up. We found that driving in all the rain the day before that rain water had leaked in the front window , down the wall next to the mattress. The sheets, pad and floor rugs were wet and had to be...

Jul 7, 2011 - Going Up The Road

Camping world called about the trailer!!!! The wheels were repacked, but we need new brakes for the trailer. I told them to go ahead and that we would stop over towards the end of the day to pick up the trailer. We go the trailer home to pack up all the things that we need for a six or eight week trip. We started up the road with dark clouds in the sky and rain just down the stree. As I turned on to Santa Barbara Blvd in Cape Coral the rain started to come down. It was raining all the way up I-75 to the GA. state line. At the GA. state line...

vacation trip 2011

Jul 7, 2011 - KOA

I got up around 9 A.M. from a good night sleep, went to bed around 3 A.M. which is about the time we booth go to bed, when we our at home. I watch TV and Norma is on the computer. I got up and started to put the rest of the things that we were going to take on the trip in the trailer. Then it was time to put down all the awnings on the house and put away some items that might want to fly away in a hurricane. Norma got up just after I did and was ready to go before I was, but not until after her soap's at 10:30. We were ready to head on down...

May 11, 2011 - When in doubt...Fix it yourself

Today has been a very quiet day. We stayed around the campground pretty much waiting for the parts we had ordered for the electrical cord came in. The furthest we ventured out was across the highway to the outlet mall. I was able to find a new pair of sandal’s and Bill found himself a small Black and Decker drill that he had been looking for… We were home in time for lunch which we enjoyed very much since we were eating lots of the fresh veggies we had bought at the market.. Yummm. When we hadn’t hear by 2:00 Bill went up to the RV Store...

May 10, 2011 - Our day in Southern Georgia

I mentioned yesterday that we got as far as Mile 5 into Georgia and Bill had found out electrical cord burnt on both ends. That is not something we want to play around with so we stopped at the last Sun Coast RV before we went further north.. Sun Coast is who we bought our Big Sky from during a huge RV Show in Tampa two years ago.. They have about 5 different dealers in Florida and one in Georgia. Because we bought from them we get privileges from any of their shops. Usually it means a 10% discount on parts and labor which we won’t sneeze...

May 9, 2011 - Leaving Florida... Day one

Gosh… I have been having trouble lately and most of it is my fault… I have been using Mytripjournal.com for our journey every year since we first met them at a rally in Minden, OR the first year we were on the road. We signed up for the premium sight and paid each year to bring our journey to you… It has been worth every penny but when ours expired in December this year and we had taken a break from posting our days we didn’t renew. When we started up again about a week ago I tried their free website.. Not good.. There is a limit on the...

Mar 2, 2011 - Bushnell, FL to Valdosta, GA

We are on the move. I’m not really saying this is the beginning of our trip for this year. I don’t know why. We have a couple of family visits first. One in Perry, GA and then to Nashville for a couple weeks. When we leave Nashville and head west, that’s when I’ll think our trip has begun. For today, we traveled along US 41 North to Lake City, then jumped on I-75 for the last 35 miles or so into Valdosta. US 41 was an excellent road. Two-lane most of the way, but with very light traffic and no potholes. During the first hour we passed...

Scratchin' the Itch

Apr 6, 2010 - Valdosta

Yep, we're RV'ing it, on the road again. This morning,(Tuesday, April 6th) (the day AFTER George's birthday!!) we were awakened at 3:30am. The dogs had found a way out of their enclosure and came bouncing into the bedroom, ready for some cuddles, proud as punch that they had escaped their bathroom lock-up! After a bit of swearing and damning, I got them back into their lair, then tried to get back into sleep mode.....not to be.....I listened to my latest book, an old Anne Tyler, then finally gave up and got up. So another early morning...

Nov 8, 2009 - River Park RV Park - Valdosta, GA

River Park RV Park - Valdosta, GA - Nov. 8 We made our next short drive down Interstate 75 and spent the evening and night at an RV park right off of the freeway in Valdosta before crossing over into Florida. We got to see our first moss hanging from the trees as we approached our stop. Interesting stuff, just kind of hangs there on the branches floating in the breeze. Seems like only certain trees have it too. It must be because of the humidity in the area that it grows. The nights are beginning to be warmer and muggier as we get further...

Chasing the Sunrise

Aug 11, 2009 - 1st Day on the road

We arrived in Georgia at a KOA campground. The drive was easy, Alex only asked when we were going to get there 1,000 times. Thank goodness it was only 4.5 hours. Driving from Tampa to Lake Park, Georgia wasn't uneventful. We only stopped once for oranges and grapefruits at one of the 100 "last chance" places to buy Florida fruit. It is super hot, so we have a mini cabin with AC. Nothing on the schedule other than relaxing, I have homework to do, Alex will just chill out. Tomorrow is a big day for us...game #1 in Atlanta. More to follow...

Mar 16, 2009 - Alabama and Georgia

After failing to find any camping vacancies along the coast...Easter break...I did a LOT of driving for three days, staying in motels. And there was a lot of rain. But I did see some beautiful and interesting sights. Stopped at a place suggested by one of my favorite TV shows...Diners, Drive-ins and Dives...for fresh beignets(French donuts)and coffee. They were delicious!!! Finally gave up on camping along the coast and headed to inland Georgia. On the way I drove through Lakeland and that's where I saw all the paintings on the buildings....
