Mar 13, 2018 - Reconnecting with Friends

After spending 2 weeks in Louisiana we spent 2 nights in Biloxi, Mississippi and then into Alabama for a short visit. We stayed at an Elks Lodge in Biloxi that was situated right on Beach boulevard which overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. Biloxi dates back to 1699 and it was the first French settlement and its name is derived from the French term for the local Indians, Bilocci. It was known as a summer resort for the well-to-do farmers and businessmen during the 19th century. One such home was Beauvoir (Beautiful View) that was built by James...

East Bound and Down

Apr 27, 2017 - Lazydays

Things went pretty well with our maintenance and repairs. We had maintenance performed on the engine, chassis, generator, and aqua hot system. In addition we needed a drawer repaired, a small toilet leak, a fresh water exit valve leak, and a hydraulic fluid leak in a level leg. Everything seems to be OK so today we bid good bye to the Crown Club at Lazydays and headed north on I-75. We are making a one night stop near Valdosta, GA on our way to Stone Mountain.

Dec 31, 2015 - New Year's Eve

We took I75 and and the W285 bypass around Atlanta, surprisingly easy for that area. Cracker Barrel is supposed to be the RVers' standby and we had bacon, eggs, and grits for lunch. There was a major slowdown south of that, with no apparent reason, but we made it in a fairly timely fashion to River Park RV Park in Valdosta, where the sites were narrow but nicely landscaped southern-style. We enjoyed another MRE after doing a little shopping at Publix (rather expensive). No New Year's Eve fireworks, just a quiet night.

Jan 15, 2015 - Travel day from hell

Yesterday was actually our 1st day of travel. We didn't get on the road until after 12 noon, and left the ice covered driveway behind. However we didn't leave the ice behind. The entire top of the RV and the trailer were covered in ice, which fell little by little in front of me as I followed the RV and trailer in my (new to me) Honda CRV. I managed to avoid being showered on, until it had actually melted today, and then I got sprayed. No one else on the road had windshield wipers on except me! Go figure! We made it to Corbin KY yesterday...

Sep 16, 2014 - Juliette to Andersonville to Valdosta

Drove from the Whistle Stop to Andersonville National Historic Site. I thought I would just be visiting the famous Civil War prisoner of war camp but when I arrived I learned that the National Prisoner of War Museum was on the property. First I watched a movie documenting the horrible conditions during the 14 months that Andersonville prison existed. Originally built to hold 10,000 men in 16 1/2 acres the pen had to be expanded to 26 1/2 acres because the prisoners just kept coming. Over 13,000 prisoners died in 14 months from starvation...

Fall Roadtrip - 2014

Apr 7, 2013 - We're on the road again!

I finished my work at Live Oak Landing, we packed up Winnie and headed northeast to Georgia. Our route took us inland across the Panhandle along US 90 before heading northeast. We crossed the Chatahoochee River, the FL-GA border, just west of Donalsonville, GA where we got on US 84. We followed this highway to Valdosta where we're spending the night. The highways were pretty good for the most part and most of 84 is 4-lane with little or no traffic. Today's route passes through mostly agricultural land in both states. Pecans and peanuts...

Mar 14, 2013 - Valdosta, Georgia

We have left the state of Florida and are spending the night in Valdosta, GA about 5 miles into Georgia. Yesterday we were out riding around and stopped at the Fantasy of Flight museum. They have a lot of old airplanes there as well as a zip line and a huge structure that has all types of rope walks to test your agility. You must be in a harness to climb up on it. We were amazed at the young children up on it as well as teens and adults. There were several teenaged employees up there to help anyone having trouble - especially at each end of...

Apr 27, 2012 - Its a Small World

While in Valdosta we stayed at Cain's Creekside RV Park. This is a very nice, small (10 sites) campground, conveniently located for visiting and taking care of stuff. It is also a Passport America Campground with a Passport rate of $16/night for FHU. We will stay here again. One evening I went out to put somethings in the truck and the gentleman next store asked what year our Airstream was. I told him and talked about the fulltime lifestyle and several other things. During the conversation he mentioned his Aunt and Uncle had been active...

SILVER TRAILS

Apr 24, 2012 - Catching Up

So after a very long winter at Top of Georgia Airstream Park, a very busy tax season, wonderful quality time with the 4 grandkids and Claudia getting sick about the time we were ready to pullout for the summer, we made it back on the road. We moved up to Duckett Mill COE Campground on Lake Lanier for a week to get ourselves ready to travel. Well, the best laid plans of mice and men.....Claudia caught a terrible disease from Eli, our 3 year old grandson. We delayed our departure date a day and cancelled our planned visit to Milledgeville,...

Jul 8, 2011 - Wet Bed And Not From The Dog's This Time

We had a good night sleep and would check on the wet bed when we got up and had something to eat. It started to rain here in bone dry GA., the water was leaking in from the screws that held in the window in the front of the trailer. The window was leaking water and the bed was wet and the water was on the floor and under the bed. We had a major leak and this was not going to stop. We moved the bed and dried up all the watera as good as we could, this was going to cause us to go back home. We wanted to go home, dry everything out and get the...
