Nov 25, 2017 - Unadilla, GA

We arrived at the Southern Trails RV Resort in Unadilla, GA on November 11, 2017 for a two week stay. This is an unusual park that specializes in reciprocal camping organizations. We are here under Coast to Coast Premier but they also accept RPI, AOR, Passport, ROD and you can buy into any of these and make this your home park. This is a very nice park loaded with Pecan trees with easy navigation of the well maintained gravel roads and sites. Nearly every morning we see residents walking around picking up pecans. A very popular...

Jun 17, 2013 - Georgia on my mind

Don't you just love that Ray Charles song? So, here we are a scant 4+ hours away from home, but it was a good and easy drive with no problems. We are only here for one night, then we'll move to Lake Lanier tomorrow (about three hours north). It's hot, but we are parked in the pecan grove where we can watch the birds and my new friend, Mr Ed....the horse, of course! Yes....he's retired here and he and I had a good chat this afternoon. I have his pic but it's on my camera so I'll send it later. For now there's not much to tell so I'll leave...

Summer 2013 Stories

Sep 27, 2012 - Jimmy Carter in Plains, GA

Not far from Andersonville is Plains, Georgia, home of Jimmy Carter, 39th President of the U.S. We went to the visitor's center and museum which is in what was a grade school attended by Jimmy and Rosalyn. Then we went to see Maranatha Baptist Church where Jimmy has been a deacon and Sunday School teacher. From there we went to see his boyhood home. It was simple and reminded me of Eisenhower's boyhood home in Abiline, Kansas that we visited way back in July. Some of our presidents came from humble homes in humble places that one can't...

RV Trip Summer 2012

Sep 27, 2012 - Last Day of Sightseeing

This is the last day for sightseeing on this three month trip of ours. We have decided we will try to drive all the way home tomorrow (Friday)instead of reaching home on Saturday morning. It's about 388 miles away which is a lot for us to go normally, but we are right on I 75 which we take to our house in Sarasota. It should take around 7 hours with a lunch stop. I'm going to make two entries for the two things we did today. We are just south of Macon, Georgia and nearby is Andersonville, sight of the largest POW camp in the Civil War....

RV Trip Summer 2012

Jun 22, 2012 - Southern comfort

Finally….FINALLY, we got on the road yesterday morning after saying our goodbye’s to Celeste & Robert and Ruth Anne & Steve. We saw some black rain clouds, but snuck out of FL before they caught up to us. From then on the skies were blue. This southern area of GA is a little hilly, acres of cotton growing, red clay dirt, and lumpy/bumpy concrete roads! It felt like we were on a washboard. With all our stops, it took us almost five hours to arrive at the campground. Southern Trails RV is our “Home” campground for the Coast to Coast...

Celebration2012

May 24, 2012 - Andersonville, GA

Leaving the Orlando area, we drove 316 miles to get to Unadilla, GA. This is way beyond our normal driving day. We're happy to do less than 100 miles, but certainly no more than 200. But, we had a time constraint and doing one long day's driving would be the only way we could stop and spend the time to visit Andersonville. I guess we live right, because it's uncanny how often we arrive (totally unplanned) just in time for the next tour or the next event. We had a 30-mile drive from Unadilla to Andersonville. Andersonville was the location...

Apr 13, 2012 - Unadilla, Plains, Andersonville and Our Home RV Park

Shortly after we started our full time traveling, we found we needed to reduce the nightly cost to stay in RV Parks. To join discount groups you need a home park. After some research we found the least expensive park along with low annual dues was Southern Trails in Georgia. We joined Southern Trails and along with RPI and Coast to Coast to use their park systems for $10 a night. On Thursday we finally were at the park after our trip up I-75 from The Villages. We checked in for a 2 night stay so we could see some of the sights of the area....

Jul 26, 2011 - At Our Home Coast to Coast Park

This morning we explored Indian Springs where we stayed last night. Very interesting. I will post the photos after I finish this post. Arrived here before lunch today and will stay two nights. This is our home park so we stay here for free. I just finished cleaning the interior of the coach really well. Dust, vacuum, mop, wipe everything down, armoralled the dashboard and leather chairs. Tomorrow I will reorganize my kitchen cupboards (a project I have put off the whole trip) and gather up all the things that we didn't use the whole trip to...

Jun 5, 2011 - Unadilla, Ga Temp 97

Left Jacksonville at 11:45 - it was pushing 90 degrees (if it wasn't already there). We drove to a rest stop 121 miles into Georgia, where we stopped at 1:45 for lunch. We cranked the generator on and turned the A/C on - it was almost 90 degrees back in the kitchen area. The drive here to the Southern Trails RV Resort, Inc. was mostly uneventful - except for the heat. It just got hotter and hotter. It was 97 when we checked in. I guess we'll keep checking for that cooler weather!! Have gotten several email from those of you reading this -...

Apr 17, 2011 - On Our Way Once More

We finally got away after getting good news from the dermatologist and my new contacts rx arrived. We were both getting very antsy and more than ready so glad to be out and about once more. We are staying two nights here in our Coast to Coast membership park so lot rent is free. I did a lot of rearranging and reorganizing of the food and pantry items in the coach so all is easier to manage now. I am still going to use Phanfare for my photos and my personal blog for my writing website but will try to do a quick note on our travels here along...

On The Road Again !!

Jun 12, 2010 - Saturday Unadellia, GA

Left Jacksonville considerably later than the 8:20 am goal that we had for ourselves. Yesterday it was 99 degrees and today was projected to be hotter yet. We managed to pulled away from the house at 2:15. Pulled into our campground around 6 PM. We ate lunch on the road. Bob actually choose to eat while he continued to drive. Most of the drive had the generator on for additional air conditioning. The security guard checked us in (office is closed on weekends). His mannerisms and way of talking reminded me of someone. He kept our membership...
