They wrapped up work on the Phaeton by noon on Wednesday. So, we headed north for a one night stay at the Lake City RV Resort. We have stayed there (under the name of Oaks and Pines) in the past. We had a nice open full-hookup site for the night. On Thursday we followed route 441 north to near Atlanta and then wound our way to the Stone Mountain Heights RV Park. We took up residence in our favorite site 15 and Scott came by for some KFC and a visit. On Saturday we drove to Scott's condo in downtown Atlanta for a visit. We stopped by the...

May 18, 2018 - Atlanta and Scott

May 16 We made a stopover in Valdosta last night. We have developed a small issue because our water pump is broken. Our first stop is Stone Mountain Heights RV Park in Stone Mountain, GA. We are in our usual site, number 15, that provides full hookups and satellite. Our singular purpose of this stop is to visit with our younger son, Scott. He came by shortly after our arrival and we had a nice visit and dinner at the Texas Roadhouse. May 17 Today we drove to downtown Atlanta and spent the day with Scott. He has a nice condo on the...

About a month ago a portion of I-85 near downtown Atlanta collapsed as the result of an intense fire and that put the highway out of commission for the next month or two. As a result traffic was very slow on I-285, but not as bad as we expected. We have arrived at Stone Mountain Heights Mobile Home Park and are situated in our favorite site, number 15. Our primary purpose here is to visit Scott.

. For the next week or two, we really don't have a timetable for our travels, other than a reservation in Orlando on the 19th of December for nine days. Instead of just blazing down Interstate 95 from our stop in Fredericksburg, Virginia to visit our son Tom and his family, Hazel and I decided to wander West a bit and see country we've been neglecting. . Our first detour was to Asheville, North Carolina to visit a friend and tour The Biltmore Estate. After a couple of days there, we headed South, caught a Walmart or two, a South Carolina...

Yesterday we stayed in the Eagle although the weather was great and would have been a better day for Stone Mountain. Should not have listened to the weather man. Ray reconfigured the satellite so that we get 61.5 that is not HD but it will come in as it has a different pitch and direction. Thank goodness we are now on Satellite. We had considered going into Atlanta to see some of the attractions but there was a Trump rally at noon and streets were blocked off, protesters, etc. Decided to just stay in the Eagle. Today we took the Home Office...

2016 Eagle trip

Jun 14, 2016 - Stone mountain

We arrived yesterday, had to go by the park twice before we saw the driveway, then tried two spaces and still don't get satellite reception at all. We are in an open space but the tree far away is in just the wrong spot. We are using the over air antenna. Bummer. We do get wifi so that part is good. The water regulator is leaking and there is high pressure here. Using the backup and will go to Camping World on our next stop. We went to Stone Mountain park today. Rain was predicted for the PM but it looked fine when we left the Eagle. We...

Nov 9, 2014 - Scott in Atlanta

It took us three days to get from Alexandria to Atlanta. It was a pretty drive mostly paralleling the Blue Ridge Mountains. We made overnight stops in New Market, VA and Statesville, NC along the way. We have spent a few nights in Stone Mountain in order to visit with our son, Scott, who is currently employed in Atlanta working on a television show called, “Vampire Diaries.” Scott has a great loft apartment that he is renting in downtown Atlanta. We had a great visit with him that included a walk through Piedmont Park. It’s time for the...

Stone Mountain Park is an incredible place. The park includes the RV campground which is very large, a least one golf course that I saw, and then there is Stone Mountain. I didn't know what to expect but I certainly did not expect to see a mountain that was made completely of granite. It looks like a dome. I took the tram ride to the summit and walked around. The view from the summit on a clear day is 65 miles. So I took a picture of the Atlanta skyline just to demonstrate the view. The carving is remarkable. I remember when it was being...

Summer Trip 2014

Sep 14, 2014 - Knoxville To Stone Mountain

Had breakfast with Kate, her daughter and grandson before leaving for Stone Mountain, Georgia. It was lovely to be able to spend a week at my good friend's house. No matter how much time passes between visits we just pick up where we left off--- I chose to go directly to Stone Mountain Park because rain is in the forecast for tomorrow. Although it was very hazy today at least it was dry. The park is a "theme park" - parking is $10.00 and then you must buy a ticket for each attraction you wish to see - full day passes are available and so...
