May 5, 2019 - Skidaway Island State Park

This morning we drove a few miles east to Skidaway Island State Park. The park is located near Savannah and is part of the Georgia's Intracoastal Waterway, and thus the United State's Intracoastal Waterway. The Inland Waterway runs 3000 miles from Boston, MA, down the Atlantic Seaboard, around the southern coast of Florida and along the Gulf Coast to Brownsville, TX. It provides a navigable route along its length without many of the hazards of travel on the open sea. We embarked on a three-mile hike. Actually, it was more like a stroll...

2019 Summer and Fall

Oct 13, 2013 - Savannah, GA

Sun, 13 Oct: We've got Georgia on our mind... We got going this morning at a decent time, a few minutes before nine. The dump site at Lake Aire is surrounded by trees with low branches so we opted to "take our stuff with us" rather than take a chance on damaging Carpe. No biggie, we weren't too full so it wouldn't be a major problem. Sandi got us out of the woods with no problem and we successfully negotiated the construction barriers and got ourselves heading south on US 17. Forty-some miles later we merged onto I 95 south for the trip...

2013 Travels

Jul 7, 2010 - Skidaway Island, GA

Oh what fun we had. This was the first time we took out our new to us 299TB Coachmen travel trailer. I didn't have the setup done correctly so it was some iffy moments going down and plenty of head winds to boot. Skidaway Island has a beautiful entrance area and plenty of room to get in and around the campsites. For it to be a holiday weekend, the campsites were quiet and peaceful. Not a bunch of people raising cane or a bunch of firecrackers going off. The grandkids enjoyed riding their bikes and in general, having good old fashioned fun....

Going Fulltime

Oct 28, 2008 - Savannah, Georgia

Wanting to have some time to explore historic Savannah tomorrow, we have registered for the next couple of days at Skidaway Island State Park. As it turns out they also have laundry capabilities so that was the first order of business before we started exploring anywhere! I'll include a couple of pictures of where we are for the next couple of nights with this posting so you can have a better idea of the beauty of this southern park. A call has been made to Willie’s brother Jack and our son Mark (both in Florida) to warn them of our...

Jan 31, 2008 - Our First Problem!

Today was a travel day! We drove 6 hours to Savannah. All was smooth until we got within spitting distance of the park! Following the GPS instructions we turned down the wrong road! We started to suspect something immediately when we saw we were driving through a nice office and shopping complex - after all we were headed to a State Park! We ended up getting stuck at the entrance of a gated community. The guard told us that there was no place to turn the rig around inside the gates. So, we tried to turn the rig around and found there wasn't...

Apr 11, 2007 - Squirrel Dumplings & Finances

Still from Skidaway Island State Park, Savannah, Georgia. It is becoming habit-forming. We again slept-in this morning until almost 9:00 AM..... ......but in fairness to us, we are both battling sinus & allergies which are waking us up repeatedly during the night coughing & congested.......but we are getting better. Vicki has continued to fight her battle the entire time that we have been on the road. Mine sprung-up last weekend. Vicki also woke-up yesterday morning with an infection in both eyes, for which she went to a local...
