Apr 26, 2014 - Chattanooga

Saturday Cartersville, GA to Ringgold, GA 62 miles Camping World of Chattanooga The RV park where we plan to stay during our visit in the Chattanooga area, Holiday Trav-L-Park, does not have an online reservation system and I had not made reservations. I called this morning after the office opened but they did not have anything available for tonight. We decided to take a chance and drove to Camping World of Chattanooga with hope that the RV park there would have a site available for tonight. The campground does not take reservations, it is...

Sep 17, 2012 - Rain & Disc Dogs

Ringgold, GA Holiday Trav-L-Park The forecast for today is rain and more rain. We decided not to try to travel today and just sit out the bad weather. In the meantime we are being entertained by all the dogs in this RV park. The Skyhoundz World Championship is being held in Chattanooga this week and it looks like many of the disc dog competitors are staying in this RV park. We have been entertained watching them practice. I don't know who is the more serious competitor - the dog or the human throwing the discs. We've seen many variations on...

Sep 16, 2012 - Nashville, TN to Ringgold, GA

Nashville, TN to Ringgold, GA 139 miles The plan is to go to my brother's in McDonald, TN and stay until sometime after mid-October. However, we were not sure about the condition of the camp site on his property so we checked in to a nearby RV park, Holiday Trav-L-Park, until we could assess the site and possibly do some prep work before we arrive. We made the drive from Nashville, parked and setup with plenty of daylight left to visit with my brother and his family and look at the site. The site looks fine but the weather for the next few...

Nov 18, 2010 - Maintenance Day

Our 2006 Country Coach turned over 30,000 miles a couple of days ago. So it was time to have the coach serviced. We found a CAT repair shop that worked on RVs at the southeast corner of Chattanooga. Perfect, it's close enough along our trek to Florida. Had all the filters and the oil changed for $352.98. They were very accommodating. If you need service we would recommend them, Stowers Machinery Corp. Then we hopped across the border to Ringgold, Georgia to Covington Power Services to have the transmission serviced. When paying the bill,...

Nov 15, 2008 - the 'Monkey Trial'

We make a side trip to Dayton, Tennessee - Saturday, November 15 By morning it was raining and getting colder, so we decided it was time to get off the mountain and out of the park. We had decided on Chattanooga as our next destination, and the Chickamauga and Lookout Mountain Battlefields that lie south of it. When we started out on this trip last March, we decided early on that we weren’t going to try and visit every battlefield, fort and lighthouse we came to. Battlefields depress us, and forts and lighthouses were only devices to save...

May 18, 2008 - And we're off!

After a hectic morning of last minute prep, at 11:30 we were on our way. The day was uneventful - good weather and low traffic. For the first time in memory, there were no construction delays on I-75, and Atlanta traffic was light! We stopped for the night at the GA-TN line.
