Apr 23, 2019 - Morganton point cg

The Cherohala parkway from Robbinsville to Tellico Tn was amazing. 5000 ft peaks were all around and the views were as good and maybe better than the blue ridge parkway. We hiked Huckleberry ridge about 1.5 miles and thought the parking lot was a good place to camp. We've drove on down to Morganton point cg and got #7 on blue ridge lake. Nice and peaceful but we think summer would be crazy.

Dec 15, 2012 - Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year

It’s been forever since I updated this journal but there have been reasons. This will be our last entry until we go back on the road in March to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. We left Pigeon Forge on September 10. On September 11, we began to pack Rick’s Mom for a move into a 1-bedroom apartment in a retirement community in Manchester, CT, so she could be closer to Rick’s sister, Sue, and her family. As we are away from Georgia for long periods of time, she felt it would be better to be closer to a family member who’s around a little more...

Back To Dollywood

Mar 1, 2009 - Getting Ready to Leave

It's almost time to leave. Rick has been on the internet drooling over the size of the striped bass and trout that have been pulled out of Lake Cumberland. This year I think he'll be into fishing more than rocks. Hey, at least we can eat the fish!!! The camper is almost completely packed. Just the last minute foodstuffs to be put into the refrig. We'll probably load them just before we leave on Tuesday. Monday, I'll be finishing up a quilt I started in a quilt class while Rick runs around doing the last minute errands. Of course, the...

Jul 1, 2008 - To the mountain house!

Day 45 - Sunny and 75 degrees! We awoke to our beautiful forested surroundings at Old Stone Fort - what a lovely campground! Too bad we didn't have more time here - definitely worth a return trip! We stopped at the museum to pay up, and found another delight - this place is an archeological park, an ancient Indian ceremonial site more than 2000 years old. We didn't have time to hike the trails around the site, but we spent a good bit of time in the museum - arrowheads are a big thing here, and they host a flinting meet each fall. Who knew...

We’re almost on our way. The 5th wheel is packed and hitched to the truck. Hopefully, we won’t have any problems pulling it. As usual, Rick says I’ve brought too much quilting stuff but he’s also got his share of material plus some of his rocks. This past week we spent in Orlando with our boys and their families. It was great having everyone together. Two of Ken and Trudie's kids had never been to Disney so it was quite a treat to see their wide-eyed expressions. We stayed in a timeshare resort just 2 miles from the entrance to the Magic...

Jul 18, 2007 - 2 days and counting

Well, we are about to start on our journey. Tomorrow is devoted to last minute packing, doing laundry, going to the bank and all the other things that can't be done until almost time to leave. We've actually had the 5th wheel packed since Sunday. It's amazing all it can hold. We haven't even filled up all the cabinets yet. That's good. It gives us room to bring treasures home. Rick is bringing quartz rocks that he dug in Arkansas with Bryan to hopefully trade for stones that are indigenous to where we will be, ie turquoise. I have my quilt...
