Dec 20, 2018 - Starting West

Well, the weather forecast was right on. It's very wet this morning. Nevertheless, we get on the road by 9:30. First stop is the Speedway gas station to fill up at $1.97 a gallon. Then we're off down US-17, out to I-95, and then into Georgia and I-16. Happily the rain and the traffic are pretty light. We're going about 180 miles today and the time passes fairly quickly. The rain tapers off about an hour after we arrive. Weather down in Florida has turned nasty, but we've managed to miss all of that. We'll stay here tonight and head across...

Winter2018-2019

Oct 7, 2015 - Wednesday Metter GA

Did not get a very early start today because we were not sure how far this leg of the journey will be. Started out around 9 am heading south again. We could not ask for better weather, last night it was in the 60’s which made for good sleeping. As we got on the interstate it was decided it was time for our Walmart stop. We did stop in Cleveland Tennessee at the Super Walmart to get some stuff, you know how that goes. Candy has decided she want to be in Florida early so that will be 2 days of long driving. It is good Chip is with us so he...

Feb 23, 2015 - Pause in Georgia

We made our way across Georgia today and ended the day in at the Beaver Run RV Park in Metter, GA. We stayed here last year on our way home. I wanted to come back because the people that own the park are so friendly. As with last year the owner delivered fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to Winnie's door. You can't get more welcoming than that. Those of you RV'er's who travel through this area should plan a stop at Beaver Run. Not alot to note on the trip across Georgia except the Confederate nuclear missile in Cordele. there is an old...

Feb 6, 2014 - Reluctantly Heading North

After extending our stay in Florida as long as possible, we reluctantly headed north today. Listening to all of the weather and news reports from up north, we’re afraid that we will be driving to the Planet Hoth. For those who don’t remember, Hoth is the planet covered in ice and snow from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Not much to write about today because it rained much of the way into Georgia. There was one frightening sight as we drove US 19. I was watching a car that had passed us and was about a hundred yards in front...

Nov 30, 2012 - Doctor Curry (W4TYM)

Made a visit to see Doctor Curry today to see his motorhome. He is selling it and we are looking for a larger motorhome. A good match. On the way there we were only a split second away from being in a accident. It happened right in front of our eyes. So very close it was scarry. Thank God again we were safe. Had a nice visit with Dr. Leon and his wife Helen and their dog "Duke". We went to a wonderful place for dinner and attended their local Amateur Radio Club meeting where Dr. Leon Curry. W4TYM, was the "guest speaker". Dr. Curry has...

Dec 22, 2011 - Further South

Some interesting things happened while driving from NC to GA today. At Mile Marker 65 on I95 South we saw a goat nursing a kid on the side of the road. How in the world did a goat get on there? We pass South of the Border, it is not what it use to be so we just drove by. We enjoyed a wonderful visit at the welcome center in Georgia. Then at the intersection at Rocky Ford, GA we were stopped and the police officer told us he was doing a license check and wanted to see Tom's driver’s license. That was different. That evening we got together...

May 8, 2011 - Metter, GA

The race last night was long and we did not return home until after 2am so today we slept late. When I woke up I had a horrible sinus headache but when I saw the condition of our Jeep I could understand why I had a sinus problem - dust and dirt from the track last night! The Jeep was covered in a layer of Georgia red dirt. Ron took the Jeep in to Metter and found a car wash to clean off the dirt. He said he saw some other cars in town that looked like ours. Tomorrow we leave and plan to go a park in Acworth, just north of Atlanta. We were...

May 7, 2011 - Swainsboro Raceway

My peaceful morning was interrupted by some unwelcome visitors - ants! I spent a couple of hours trying to rid the inside of the motor home of ants. They were invading and bringing all their friends. After I managed to get rid of the visible army of invaders I used cloves and white vinegar to deter any further invasion. On the outside we sprayed pesticide on the hoses and the electrical cord which was the trail of entry from the outside. Since we were going to be gone all day I expected to return this evening to another invasion but luckily...

May 6, 2011 - Rain and history

It was a cloudy, rainy day. We have a very good internet connection at this park so we both ended up spending the day researching history. I worked on genealogy and Ron studied the Civil War. It was a very good and very quiet day. Tomorrow is race day so it was nice to have an easy day today.

May 5, 2011 - Dollar General

This morning it was cold and didn't warm up until after 1pm. I move like a slug when it's cold and really had a slow start this morning. I did one load of laundry while Ron worked on replacing some of the screws on the motor home. That was more of a job for him physically than he expected and it seemed to zap the energy out of him. He rested for a while and then we took a drive to Statesboro to pick up a few things from the pet store and a few items I did not get while we were at Wal-Mart earlier this week. Throughout our travels we have...

May 4, 2011 - Checking out the track

We took about a 40 mile drive to Swainsboro (trivia note - no other city in the world is named Swainsboro). There will be a World of Outlaws Series race on Saturday and we wanted to find our way to the Swainsboro Raceway before race day. The downtown section of the small town of Swainsboro is very nice. They've done a nice job of maintaining the old buildings and keeping the town vibrant. We found our way to the track after a few wrong turns and what a pleasant surprise! The track and the grounds are beautiful! It looks like they've put a...

May 3, 2011 - Metter, GA

We spent most of this morning talking about and researching our HWH leveling system. It seems we're still having problems and the only conclusion we came to was the leveling sensor must need adjusted. Everything works fine, the air dumps out of the air bags, the jacks come down and the coach goes through the process to level and stabilize. The problem is when the leveling is complete the coach is not level, it leans to one side too much. It's very noticeable and the interior doors prove it's not level inside. It's been causing us grief for...
