Aug 7, 2019 - August 7, 2019 – Marietta and Dalton, Georgia

August 7, 2019 – Marietta and Dalton, Georgia Sarah and I were on our way to Dalton at 7:30 this morning after we dropped off her car at the dealer. She had a nail in a tire so she left it for them to fix. Turned out the nail did not go through so her run flat tires were okay I dropped her off at the college and began my sightseeing. The 1st place I visited was the Confederate Cemetery. There are 421 unknown and 4 known confederate soldiers buried there as well as 4 unknown federal soldiers. Dalton was home to several hospitals so not all...

Aug 6, 2019 - August 6, 2019 – Marietta, Georgia

August 6, 2019 – Marietta, Georgia This morning Sarah took Eddie to day care. When she got back, we got ready to do some shopping at – where else but – Von Maur. She found 2 dresses which were on sale and which will be really nice for work. I found a dress which I liked, but it wasn’t on sale so I passed. We had lunch at Lan Zhou La Mian. “La Mian” means a certain kind of handmade noodles, and Lan Zhou is the province which is well known for that type of noodle. I let Sarah order, and, as usual, what she picked out was really good, but...

Aug 5, 2019 - August 5, 2019 – Marietta, Georgia

August 5, 2019 – Marietta, Georgia This morning Sarah took Eddie to day care. After Brian left for work, Sarah and I went shopping. We hit the Barnes and Noble, Ann Taylor and Buy Buy Baby. We got a few things at the baby store, but that was all the money we spent. Tomorrow will probably be a different story as we are headed out to Von Maur. I had hoped to see John and Judy Schwenn while I has here, but they have both daughters, their husbands and children as well as his mother visiting. A new granddaughter was christened today so everyone...

Aug 4, 2019 - August 4, 2019 – Conyers to Marietta, Georgia

August 4, 2019 – Conyers to Marietta, Georgia I did sleep in this morning. I had a leisurely breakfast before I plotted out my route for today. I could go through Atlanta on the interstate, but I’m not going to do that. I had plenty of time so I went north of Atlanta on state highways before swinging west. I had to drop a little south when I got to the west side of Atlanta, but it was a nice route. The Old Town part of Conyers is a really nice place. They have retained most of the old store fronts. Once of the funny things was a pawn shop...

Sep 13, 2018 - September 13, 2018 – Marietta, Georgia

September 13, 2018 – Marietta, Georgia This morning, Eddie had an appointment with his pediatrician for his 6 month check-up so I did some exploring on my own. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought a couple of washable books for him. Sarah wants to turn him into a reader so I got a couple of things she can use now. I also told her to check her public library because many of them have infant story times. After Barnes and Noble, I went to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park which is in the neighboring town of Kennesaw. The loss...

Sep 12, 2018 - September 12, 2018 – Marietta, Georgia

September 12, 2018 – Marietta, Georgia After feeding Eddie this morning, Sarah got herself and Eddie ready to go. We went to Von Maur to do some shopping. Sarah had a gift card and was able to find a really nice dress. We also found a couple of onesies for Eddie. I found a skort. I also bought a couple of stuffed toys for Eddie. We had lunch at the mall before heading for home. Eddie is a laid back baby. He seldom cries. He took the shopping trip in stride and slept through most of it. On the way home, we stopped at Costco where Sarah...

Sep 11, 2018 - September 11, 2018 – Rome, Georgia to Marietta, Georgia

September 11, 2018 – Rome, Georgia to Marietta, Georgia It was a short drive of about 1.5 hours today to Sarah’s house. Eddie, her 6 month old son, is really cute. He is a happy baby who seems to like to laugh more than cry. He is the 1st baby that I’ve ever held who hasn’t immediately started bawling. Sarah and I visited this afternoon until Brian arrived home. He did some yard work, and then we all went out to dinner at a seafood place. The food was really good. Afterwards, we went to Bruwsters which is an ice cream shop where they make...

Jun 22, 2017 - June 22, 2017 – Marietta, Georgia

June 22, 2017 – Marietta, Georgia This morning I wondered if I was being silly to drive over to Marietta. It is only a couple of hours from here, but it was raining hard, and it was supposed to rain all day. However, I’d promised Sarah that I would come so I decided to go. It turned out to be okay. I ran out of the rain about halfway there. Sarah and I had a good visit, and a good shopping trip to Von Maur. Good for me because I didn’t buy anything. Good for her because she found a really nice dress for work. We had lunch at The Cheesecake...

Aug 30, 2014 - Friends and Family

We have been making our way home. Along the way we have been fortunate enough to see some friends and family. In Nashville we had dinner with Bruce and Janie. We met them in 2011 on our western caravan. They both looked great and we enjoyed catching up with them. Then we were able to meet Jo and Bob for lunch on Friday. Jo and I went to high school together and although we keep in touch it is always good to actually see them in person. They stay very busy and are soon going to Hawaii to celebrate their anniversary. Then we got to spend...

May 1, 2013 - Headed for Brunswick

We are on the road again headed for Brunswick. Guess what? It is raining, and raining and raining. The drive was uneventful. We have acquired a discount gas card through Good Sams for Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers (truck stops). It saves about 3 cents a gallon. When the RV burns about 9 miles to the gallon, this is a big deal. My daughter Polly, her husband Keith and their son Morgan drove their car and we sort of drove together at times. Polly's daughter Sarah drove her truck and followed also. It is her husband Will who is graduating...

Spring Trips 2013

Apr 25, 2013 - On the Road Again

Well, we are on the road again. Off to a camping trip with the Free Wheeling Good Sams Club. The short trip was uneventful and we arrived at The Great Outdoors RV Resort in Franklin NC. The park was nice and we were parked right by the club house but could not get internet. Oh well, that is typical in a lot of RV parks. Down the road from our rv park was Gold Mine Baptist Church. It was founded in 1861 and I told Larry with all the gem mines in the area the miners could find their gold and then take it down the road to the church! The...

Spring Trips 2013

Sep 30, 2012 - post-wedding

It was much cooler today so we could open the windows and not sweat trying to do packing chores. We left for the airport at 2pm to deliver the Sullivans. Bob and I got security passes so we could go to the gate with them in case Karin needed any help. I'm sure she could manage without us but sometimes an extra pair of hands is helpful. Plus I didn't want to just 'dump and run'. Bob was able to watch the Patriot's game while we waited for her flight to be boarded. It was a great weekend. The only thing missing was more visit time with the...
