Feb 17, 2012 - Dahlonega, GA

It was a wonderful drive from Langston to Dahlonega, GA. Langston is in NE Alabama and we saw acres and acres of trees that had been snapped off about 10 feet above the ground. Either a tornado or a fierce straight-line wind hit the area. We had one day, the 18th, in Dahlonega. We were there in September 2006 and went back to the same campground, which hadn't changed one iota. Saturday morning , we drove the few miles to the Amicalola Falls State Park and spent several hours, along with a horde of people because it was a nice day and people...

Oct 17, 2011 - The patter of little footprints

Or not so little when you figure the guy who came out to repair the roof leak was 240 pounds and only had one leg! Do we really get Larry, Moe and Curley to fix our stuff? Every time Howard and I hire someone, it seems like Howard could do it better, faster, on time, cheaper, and with less grief than those we hire. This guy said he would be here at 1:00PM. We rushed back from a quick bike ride to Helen, for a couple of things we wanted to buy that we had seen on a previous trip. My little bear that said "GO AWAY/WELCOME" and those beautiful...

Oct 12, 2011 - Fall Colors and a trip to Dahlonega, GA

We woke to a BEAUTIFUL morning and decided it was a perfect day to do some photographing of the color changes. We took a side trip to Vogel State Park, which is about 5 minutes from here and enjoyed all the beauty that this state park has to offer. Suzy Bishop, a friend from work, makes a point to come to Vogel to camp with her parents and family. It has a lovely lake as its focal point but the campground is second to none, in the area. First stop, though, was the waterfalls just outside the gate. What a pretty sight. Steve got out and...

Sep 14, 2010 - We have returned

After our marathon drive yesterday, we took time this morning for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and coffee at Starbucks before departing Nashville/Smyrna for Dahlonega. The drive today was only 220 miles and even with our late departure, we arrived at 2:00 PM after losing an hour with the time change to Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Our trip carried us to 18 states and British Columbia, Canada. We traveled 6594 miles pulling our fifth wheel and an additional 2949 miles in the truck. Upon completion of this trip, we have traveled in 49 US...

Here's the scoop on our last travels... We also had Sunday brunch at Winchester's ... a "wood fired grill" that's worth the trip to Georgia just to see and eat at... ^_^ Helped Ann pick out her new computer. P has been helping put in new water saving poopers and I helped reorganize all the bookshelves! ^_^ Sure am glad she's paying all the bills on this house so we can stay here free for only doing a few chores!!! ^_^ All the rain has the little mountain waterfalls really running... and with 5 days of sun and warm it was great being here....

Jan 14, 2008 - On to Georgia

Today we got back on I-24 and ran on down through Chattanooga. There we picked up I-75 briefly before leaving the interstates for awhile. We stopped in Dalton, GA and had some lunch at a small café. After lunch Joyce said she would drive. Little did she know she was going to end up on roads like this. She does not even like to ride on these, much less drive, but she did fine. We stopped briefly at an overlook. The view was nice, but will be even better when the trees leaf out. One thing this stop had was lots of graffiti. Shortly, Joyce was...

Apr 22, 2007 - Cleveland, Georgia

We had a great visit with George and Gerrie for two weeks. Thanks for putting up with us. The rodeo got cancel due to electrical storms in the area, so there will be no rodeo pictures. This week we are in Cleveland, Georgia which is in the northern part of the state. Cleveland is the home of the "Cabbage Patch Doll". We visited the factory which is set up like a hospital. You can adopt one of the dolls for your very own. The original Cabbage Patch dolls start at $170.00 and stop at $375.00 plus tax. The Toy Cabbage Patch doll can be...

Feb 21, 2007 - R Ranch Resort, Dahlonega GA, Elev 1658ft

We arrived at the R Ranch in Dahlonega GA today. Pronounced Da-Lon-aga. Only about a 30 minute drive from our last place. It is very beautiful here! It's suppose to get warm and the sun in coming out! This place is part of a gated community that is very large. They have trails for hikers and horses, numerous lakes, and cabins plus RV pads. Go to their website to hear Al Gore narrate the photo journal of the place. Their main website is www.rranchga.com and to get the video tour you click on "continue" and then pick video on the left side....
