Mar 25, 2012 - Change is Good

A week ago we pulled out of Top of Georgia Airstream Park moving 60 miles down the road to Cumming to be near our son and his family for a few weeks before hitting the road for our travels this spring and summer. Now when you have been sitting for nearly 4 months hitch itch really sets in and you are ready to roll down the road to most anywhere. We were excited to hitchup and head out. We left the beautiful North Georgia Mountains and TOG nestled in the foothills of those mountains. We were surrounded by nature and mostly peace and quite....

Sep 6, 2011 - Mayberry and More Changes in Plans

Mount Airy, NC is the home of Andy Griffith and the town that Mayberry....of The Andy Griffith Show....was modeled after. Downtown Mount Airy has many landmarks that are familiar to viewers of this show...such as Floyd's Barber Shop. Our plans had been to take a tour of Mount Airy....but when got going on Thursday we realized that we were tired and besides it was 95 degrees outside. So after a lunch and a brief walk around downtown we came back to the Mayberry Campground and rested! Sure felt good. And we know we can return and take in the...

May 4, 2009 - Cumming, GA

Traveled up to Cumming, GA to see a relative. Just about 20 minutes out we had our first mishap. We were driving and Bub noticed something wrong with the drivers side tire of the tow dolly. We pulled over, the tire was peeled off in the middle and had ripped off the fender of the dolly. The tire was not flat. We were able to drive about one half mile up the road to a Home Depot were Bub could change the tire in a safe place. Don't know why it did this and will have to contact the manufacturer to see if it is a defect. We were able to have...

Boy, it is amazing how quickly time goes by! It seems our week in Montgomery has come to an end and it is time, once again, to hit the road. We will be spending the next week here at the Bald Ridge, Army Corp of Engineers campground in Cumming Georgia. We are about 30 miles north of Atlanta and will be making a couple of trips into town to take in some of the local attractions. As always, we will be sharing our adventures with you so stay...

Apr 25, 2008 - To Georgia to Visit a Friend

I am a member of several COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease i.e. emphysema and bronchitis) forums and for several years, have been threatening another member, Larry, that I was going to come visit with him some day. Well, the day (weekend, rather) finally arrived on April 25th and 26th. Bob and I and the dogs piled into the truck for the 5 hour trip to where Larry lives a bit north of Atlanta. One of the lakes down there is Lake Lanier, a 38,000-acre reservoir with over 692 miles of shoreline, built by the Army Corps of Engineers...
