May 9, 2017 - May 9, 2017 – Acworth and Marietta, Georgia

May 9, 2017 – Acworth and Marietta, Georgia A shopping trip to Von Maur was in order today since Sarah is officially through with her Ph.D. We looked for shoes for Sarah’s Mom. She had a pair of shoes to go with her dress for the wedding, but she wasn’t satisfied with them. We didn’t find anything better though. Surprise, surprise! I didn’t buy a thing in Von Maur. After the trip to Von Maur, Sarah’s parents, Sarah and I had lunch at Wendy’s. We then went to an outlet mall where I didn’t find any shoes at the New Balance store, but I did...

May 8, 2017 - May 8, 2017 – Acworth and Marietta, Georgia

May 8, 2017 – Acworth and Marietta, Georgia This morning I slept in and waited for Sarah to call me to let me know if her dissertation had finally met with the approval of her advisor. It Had! The grammar was all good which was what her advisor was concerned about. She had until 5 tonight to get the final approval from her advisor and submit it. By 10 this morning, she had submitted it. So, the pressure is off as far as the degree is concerned. Now, she just has to worry about the wedding. I spent the afternoon visiting with Sarah and her...

May 7, 2017 - May 7, 2017 – Acworth, Georgia

May 7, 2017 – Acworth, Georgia I moved from Adairsville to Acworth which is about 30 miles closer to Marietta and Kennesaw. I’m at the McKinney Campground located on Allatoona Lake. I have a pretty spot overlooking the lake. After I had lunch and took a short nap, I went to Sarah’s house. Brian and she have a very nice house with a big yard. I met Brian for the 1st time, and he seems like a very nice guy. Sarah’s parents have been here for a week now, and it was good to see them. I spent time helping to proofread Sarah’s dissertation. I...

Jun 23, 2016 - Allatoona Lake

We moved south to the Navy Lake Site at Allatoona today. This is a military campground operated by the Navy. At $20.00 a night, it is a bargain. This is a beautiful area, and I can understand why it is a vacation destination. There are boat rentals and cabin rentals available. Nice, quiet place to enjoy God's wonders! We will leave the RV here and go to Atlanta for my high school reunion. Not much else to say about this place. It is just a place to stay a few days.

Where RV This Year?

Sep 9, 2012 - On The Road - New Dish

Wednesday, September 05, 2012—Actworth Georgia We are back on the road!! Drove 246 miles today. With our “new” way of traveling, I drove for about two hours and then Debbie took over and drove about 100. This is only the second time since we retired that she has driven with the trailer attached. She did real well, but if course I expected that. I really believe that she is a better driver than I am. In her working life, she drove a transit bus. She just needs some time behind the wheel to gain her confidence. We are no longer limited to a...

Jun 20, 2012 - Tybee Island, GA to Lake Allatoona, Acworth, GA

We left Tybee with a high tide bidding us bon voyage and a “y’all come back now ya hear”. We started our trip with a pleasant surprise at Lake Allatoona, just past Atlanta, near Acworth. We were given the best site in the campground on a point with a 360 degree view of the lake and no neighbors; we enjoyed a sunset and a sunrise over the lake. We set our chairs in the lake to soak our feet while Bonnie swam for 3 hours! Ducks, Canadian Geese and boaters floated by to welcome us. We’ll definitely be back to spend more time here.

May 12, 2012 - Life's a beach

We packed lunch and rode our bikes down to the beach in the campground yesterday. It was a 10 out of 10 weather day with the high about 78 but in the sun it felt warmer. We ate in the shade of the pines then I went swimming. The water was cool but not cold. I stayed for about 4 hours (Shirley went back after 2) and finished my book. Then for dinner we met up with some friends from our former church in Marietta. Pizza Hut for Cindy Thorne, Sheila Iburg and the two of us. Catching up on old and new times. Ice cream for desert at Mickey D's...

May 11, 2012 - Rare please

It is very rare indeed when we can just sit in one place and relax. That is just what we are doing at McKinney Campground on Lake Allatoona Georgia. We really have nothing big on our plates. Yesterday I had lunch with a great longtime friend Jon Carmean. We worked together for years at GTE and Verizon Wireless. Jon is such a nice guy and it is always wonderful to get together even as infrequently as we do. When I got back Shirley and I took about a 3 mile walk around this huge lakeside campground. There are 150 sites and some are...

May 10, 2012 - Get me some tuna, STAT!

We got up early yesterday and dodged a few rain drops to walk the completed PATH just up the street from our Decatur home. What a beauty and it now connects two parks and the walk through the woods is always neat. Now the path goes over the RR tracks to a completely upgraded park with picnic pavilions and two playgrounds, a tennis center and a community garden. We stopped into see two great friends. Next Door neighbor Phylis gave us a tour of her and George's new gazebo in their backyard. It is beautiful and it was great seeing her again...

Sep 4, 2011 - Rain Rain Go Away

Sunday, September 4, 2011--Payne Campground--Acworth, Georgia Rain Rain Go Away! The host at this park tells us that there is another Corps. Park about 4-5 miles away that is much nicer, with larger sites. If you check our pictures from the last post, you will see that this park is not shabby at all, and we are happy with it. The problem seems that the sites are smaller than the other park. Our site is over 40 feet long and has extra parking for tow vehicles, so we are O.K. But most of the sites are 30 feet long, or less. I mention this...

Aug 31, 2011 - What Is A Home?

Tuesday, August 30, 2011--Payne Campground--Acworth, Georgia Each morning, except travel days, I tend to follow the same routine. Awaken to the dogs wanting to go out about 8:00 a.m. I issue June’s pack of cigarettes for the day. She is obsessive about things and if we did not limit her, she would smoke and smoke and smoke. Without limits, she would smoke three packs a day. Part of her disability is this obsession(s). It is not only with cigarettes, but soda, food, and other activities. Part of our care of June is to “watch out” for her and...

Aug 28, 2011 - Are We Backwards?

Wednesday, August 24, 2011--Payne Campground--Acworth, Georgia Sometimes I think we are “backwards” in our thinking. Most full time travelers and almost all weekend and vacation travelers plan a “destination” to see certain sights in certain areas. We don’t plan that way. We plan a general route of travel. After we arrive in a certain area, we then research what is available in the given area to see. This seems to work out for us, although sometimes we “land” in the middle of nowhere. Where is the middle of nowhere? It’s the place where the...
