Nov 18, 2018 - Sand Sculpture Competition

Fort Myers Beach has the best sand in the state if not the USA for sculpting because of its texture! Every year they hold a competition around Thanksgiving week and only once did it get ruined by rain!!! This is day 3 so there are still many mounds of sand waiting for registered artists to come and do their work. I came here years ago when it was free. Now we have to enter at the Wyndham Hotel and pay $7 after paying for parking or else driving miles down the road and taking a free shuttle back up to the entrance. While we were disappointed...

Apr 21, 2016 - Kayaks in Bunche Beach

Oh what a glorious day! The weather and tide were perfect for this outing and we took full advantage of it! I haven't been here for a couple of years and once I got to the parking lot, I remembered it. This is where we worked hard out in the open water and also where I got good reflection pictures in the mangroves once we went in the other direction. Today we went towards the open water, but hugged the shoreline until we found the trail that led into the mangroves, only navigable at high tide. So, a new adventure! We were told not to lean...

Apr 18, 2016 - 4/18/16 Day 8 Key West to Ft Meyers (through the Everglades)

Once again we woke up to a day of beautiful sunshine in the Keys. It was time to say goodbye and start our journey North. We drove up to the Keys and reached the Tamiami Trail. This trail takes you across the state, through the Everglades. At first, I was disappointed, I had envisioned a spooky type of foliage covering everything with eerie swamps everywhere. Never let it be said I lack an imaginative mind. This was boring, just like a regular highway. Slowly things started to change along our journey. There were swamps on either side,...

Mar 9, 2016 - Weather has been good--we are having fun!

We spent 6 nights in Smokehouse Bay in Marco Island. This little bay is surrounded by lovely homes and condos. There is also a small upper-end marina at a new condo complex. Also available is a dinghy dock at a Winn-Dixie grocery store. It is a well maintained dock and never crowded. The Winn-Dixie does not mind if you leave the dinghy there and walk to other stores or restaurants. This was a great thing. We made numerous trips to the dinghy dock. I think we walked to the West Marine store at least three different times (we needed parts for...

Feb 24, 2016 - Fort Myers Beach, FL.

There is severe weather predicted in the afternoon so we took a morning drive to Sanibel Island to check out the lighthouse and drive the island to Captiva. The first encounter is a traffic cop that would be the envy of the ballet ones you see on TV. We stopped at a Visitors Center for information. Rules: do not park anywhere without paying a $4.00 fee at a kiosk, you can take pictures of the lighthouse as you drive by or pay a fee (we did a drive by). They recommend leaving the island before 4:00PM, otherwise the traffic is terrible....

We drove over to Heritage Palm Golf and Country Club to visit Bill and Joyce Jones. Bill was one of my vendors for 30 years when I was still working and we had grown a friendship over the years. Bill had left word at the gate so I could get in since this is a gated community, not just anyone can enter. We had lunch with them and spend the rest of the day sitting on their veranda enjoying the sun and breeze. It was a very nice day and Candy got to meet Bill’s wife, Joyce which is a very nice lady. I worked with her mother at General Mills...

We have decided that we are not coming back home. We will leave here and head for Texas to spend a couple months and then who know where. Candy drove to Naples today to be with Carol so they could go to a movie that Candy has wanted to see. She was gone most of the day so I got to just sit around in the 85 degree weather with the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky. This is what it is all about in my mind.

Also got some stuff from to fix the front of the refrigerator so I could put the front back on it so it looks good again. We did go to Camping World to get a part that had broken on the awning, it is now fixed. It is always amazing what happen when you drive a home down the road and stuff comes loose.

We drove to Naples so Candy can take the Segway Tour of Naples. She is getting into this Segway thing, she has been on them in San Antonio TX, Savannah GA and now Naples FL. This one was not very good, the guy that done the tour was not very informative about Naples and he had the best set up to talk to the riders, He had everyone with an ear piece so he didn’t have to drive and turn around to talk with the people. Problem was he didn’t say that much, Candy felt this was the worst one yet plus it was cut short because he felt it was going...

Off to some of Candy’s friends that live in Shell Point from here bible group. They rent a home here for two months in the winter to get away from the cold. I was a very nice home with a swimming pool enclosed to keep the bugs out. Shell Point is a very exclusive area to live in, the home next door where they are was being torn down to build a new $650,000 home. We talked for a while and decided that we all would go to the flea market in downtown Ft. Myers, the name was Fleasmaster Fleamarket and it was huge. Same stuff, just spread out...

What another great day, it started out around 55 degrees but not snow or rain. It did sprinkle a little but who cares. The sun has come out off and on because they are predicting some rain today but it is still warm. Candy had to go over to the club house to do laundry because our washer in the motorhome is working at this time. We have been trying to find someone to come work on it but at $200 for the service call and $125 per hour after that we will wait. Candy called the manufacturer and they said it was probably something in the pump...

Had another wonderful visit with them, of course we went out and had lunch at one of the local restaurant call Po Boys, seem we do eat a lot. Back to their home so the ladies decided it was shopping time which Al and myself are not shoppers so we stayed at the house while they went shopping. Al has a new dog, Max which is...
