THE GREAT LAKES LOOP

Jul 18, 2015 - Rehoboth Beach Delaware

What a great week! This stop was all about family. We had a great time. Melissa, Al, Dylan and Gage joined us on this leg of our trip. We ALL stayed in our RV and had a great time. We set up a tent on the outside where the boys slept and Melissa brought a canopy to cover our large picnic table....just like being at home. Being from Delaware and loving the beach and all the junk food, we ate our way thru the week. From having Grotto's pizza, Fishers popcorn, Thrasher's French Fries and Kohr Brothers ice cream we got our fill of beach food....

Jun 26, 2015 - Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

The Delaware shore is pristine, with 'gnarly' waves that liked to knock us around. We spent a few hours on the beach with Duffy, enjoying the sights and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean, burying our feet, and building sand crocodiles. The campground was basically a crowded parking lot, with lots of families, hustle and bustle. It was not what I would call a relaxing campground, but it was a good place to ride our bikes and a great central location for touring the Delaware and Maryland shore. We drove south to Ocean City, where we picked up some...

May 23, 2015 - Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend I was born and bred in the Old Line State aka Maryland. I know better than to plan and execute a trip to any of the Maryland and Delaware Beaches on Memorial Day Weekend. I grew up watching news clips of the "horror" of crossing the Bay Bridge on Memorial Day Weekend. Top at the cherry on top of the traffic horror sundae is that was also Naval Academy Graduation. So Memorial Day Weekend combined with Naval Academy Graduation means that I will probably pull into our campsite by the 4th of July...if I am lucky. We got on...

Sep 1, 2014 - Outlets

Em and I went to the outlets at Rehoboth Beach. I found the perfect pair of brown sandals at the Merrill store and we loaded up on socks at Gold Toe. No sales tax in Delaware so I really felt like I got bargains. We went into tons of other stores but made no further purchases. Surprisingly small crowd for Labor Day. We treated ourselves to lunch out and boy did it feel good to sit down. Em served eggplant parm for dinner. What a treat. I never make it anymore . Afterwards we played cards until 11pm. Em beat me three games to two. That's...

May 10, 2013 - A Little Bit More Refined Beach

A very short drive north, only about 30 miles, we arrived at our next stop which was Rehoboth Beach, DE. This was just a one night stop, and there are 2 reasons for it. We did want to see Rehoboth Beach as we had heard a lot about it, and were very impressed. Like Ocean City, it also has a boardwalk, although it is much shorter and there are no amusement park rides; however, they still offer the same foods which we all know are necessary to maintaining high nutritional standards, such as caramel corn, cotton candy, salt water taffy, corn...

Aug 12, 2012 - Fun With Friends

Saturday - 8/11 we went with our friends Leslie and Ellen to Barb and Wendy's (more friends) who live in Rehoboth Beach. We were also joined by another friend, Barb, who also lives in the area. Wow - 5 friends in one area ... and all trying to convince us to think about relocating to this area, instead of our "Bucket List" choice of Tenn. We had lots of laughs reminiscing the "good old times at Camp Akiba" (we even made a "speaker call"" to another friend, Marie who is now in Ohio)! Caught up on where and what has happened to everyone since...

Oct 18, 2011 - Rehoboth Outlets

There is no sales tax in the state of Delaware so the outlet shops are a huge draw for shoppers wanting a bargain. I looked and looked for a new black wool blazer but struck out at places like Talbots, Jones of N.Y., Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, etc. Fortunately, Maria and Theresa had better luck. Even Danny went home with a bag full of stuff from Van Heusen. All Em and I came home with was new socks! Theresa headed back to Maryland after our day of shopping but Danny and Maria were able to stay for dinner. Em made a pork roast . The gravy...

Aug 19, 2011 - Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

We were on the road by 9:30 this morning. On I85 at exit 12 we bought Shell gas for $3.249 a gallon. We drove to Norfolk, Va, and followed the signs to the Bay Bridge Tunnel. We made a quick stop to turn off the refrigerator and the propane gas...that is required for a trip through the tunnel. All the pictures taken on the bridges and in the tunnels were made through Arvy's windows as we drove. Please excuse any reflections or fuzziness. The toll for our tunnel trip was $28. The height clearance is 13.5 feet. We cleared easily but some of...

Oct 27, 2008 - Deleware Seashore

What can we say about Delaware? It is very flat with huge areas of natural wildlife preserves. There are 100s of acres of farmland. It has a beautiful shoreline that is largely incorporated into a state park, so it is undeveloped and very natural. There are also no trees to break up the wind coming in off the ocean. While we were there, the wind was very strong and gusty. Even though our unit is heavy, it really rocked in the gusts. We also had a VERY heavy thunder storm to add to our memories. Because of the sand and his crutches, Tony was...
