Aug 29, 2011 - Sequoia National Park

We drove 265 miles to an RV park in Three Rivers, California. The campground was located near Lake Kaweah and nestled in the foothills of the Sequoia Mountains. The next morning we went to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks following the Generals Highway. We stopped and took a few pictures on the way. Our first major stop was the "Sentinel". This tree is a 2,200 year old sequoia and is a monster compared to most trees. The Sentinel is only average in size to the other sequoias which are nearly twice as large. The next sequoia we...

Apr 8, 2011 - The Sierra Nevada mountains of Three Rivers

The rain did cease and the festival was wonderful. And all the pictures I took are gone. We went to Sacramento after the festival and, while playing golf with Mike and Sally at a course in Antelope, my purse was stolen from our car and the camera was in it. We won't even talk about it except to say it wasn't fun. Anyway, these pictures are Mike's and he didn't attend the actual jazz concerts.

Jazz Affair 2011

Jul 28, 2010 - Truck Adventures

We had a 100 mile drive today, so we left around 10:30AM from Bakersfield. About 25 miles down the road the battery warning light came on. Susan searched the truck manual--no description of what it meant. So we kept going while Susan called our Ford Dealer in Boerne, Texas. David Garcia, the service rep who handles our truck said it was the alternator and we needed to get it fixed. Then we told him we were in California! So we next called the RV park--Sequoia RV Ranch. They were GREAT! We got the name and phone number of a Ford Dealer in...

Jun 16, 2010 - Sequoia And Kings Canyon National Parks

, Our week continued with a magnificent trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. They are actually two separate Parks east of Fresno, CA, but are generally considered to be together. We had an uneventful trip to the Sequoia RV Park in Three Rivers, CA. As we were getting everything set up, all the power went out. We figured we must have blown a circuit breaker by running the AC and the microwave at the same time. The problem was we couldn’t find the circuit breakers. Having bought the RV used we only got one basic manual and I...

Jun 9, 2010 - River View

Hello to all...we have truly enjoyed the first stop on this adventure. What a better way to start it than on Dennis' birthday! As we told you before, we took off in the wee hours of the morning on June 3rd from Covina so that we could enjoy a leisurely drive from Covina to our first stop, Three Rivers/Kaweah, California. We had reserved our space at the Sequoia RV Ranch about two months ago and when I called I was fortunate to obtain the best spot in the park. Our RV is parallel and within 10 yards of the Kaweah River....absolutely...

Jun 4, 2010 - Kings Canyon National Park

We drove north to the Big Stump entrance of the Kings Canyon National Park. We have our maps and had no problem finding this entrance. We had lunch at the Grant Grove Restaurant. Then we walked the Grant Tree Loop. There are several interesting places to stop along the trail. The trail is almost level and very east...a nice change from Moro Rock. The Tennessee tree shows the results of fire burning through many times. A large cavity has been burned in the massive trunk. But the fire did not burn through the tissue that carries sap through...

West Trip 2010

Jun 3, 2010 - Sequoia National Park

We headed into Sequoia National Park this morning. We had seen signs about road work in the park and to expect delays. We arrived at the traffic back up about 11:30 and discovered that traffic is allowed through the construction area only once an hour on the hour. We had about 30 minutes to wait. I researched what we wanted to see in the park, and John got out to take some pictures. He met three other families who are staying at the same rv park we are in. He took pictures of Moro Rock (6725 feet elevation) which we later climbed. It was...

May 12, 2010 - Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

We drove into Sequoia National Park this morning. Of course, when we first left the RV park we could see snow on the mountain, something about us wanting to see the mountains. They were doing roadwork inside the park. They were letting people through a one lane section only at the top of the hour. We were lucky, we had to wait about 10 minutes to get through. The real scenery started after the roadblock. The giant redwoods were everywhere. They are truly massive. When you look at the pictures pay close attention to those with people and...

2010 Summer Trip

Apr 12, 2010 - Jazz & Snow in the Sequoia's

Three Rivers, CA April 7-12 Wednesday morning we bid adieu to Acton. We took our rig to a car and RV-wash in Santa Clarita. An hour and a half later we had a supremely clean and shiny looking rig! Then it was north on I-5, up past Gorman, and down the fabled Grapevine into the San Joaquin valley. As we approached Three Rivers, we began seeing signs for the jazz festival, April 8-11. What we didn’t see was signage for the RV camping area. Even though Three Rivers is relatively small with only about 3500 souls, the festival seemed to think...

Apr 11, 2010 - Jazzaffair, Three Rivers, CA

We went to Three Rivers for the Jazzaffair, which is a jazz festival. At the festival were all four of us that are going to Alaska, plus Rick and Virgie, and Stacy and Sharron, as well as several jazz friends. It is located at the foot of Sequoia National Park. We did not go inside the park but we did go into the hill to shoot pictures of wild flowers. We spent a lot of time with our friends and we all discussed the fun we are going to have in Alaska. We got to the festival early and just hung out. Then it was 3 days of jazz. I like jazz,...

Alaska 2010

Apr 9, 2010 - The first day

The Jazzaffair started at 3 PM so in the morning Mike and Sally and we played one of the prettiest golf courses we have ever seen-Three Rivers Golf Club. And, of course, we didn't bring a camera. Three Rivers is at the entrance to Sequoia National Park, nestled in a valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The weather was cool but sunny in the mornings and warm in the afternoon. What a great day for golf and then music. There were three venues and the bands would rotate around each one. One would play for an hour, then a 15 minute break and...

Apr 8, 2010 - The 37th Annual Jazzaffair

We arrived at Three Rivers to the greetings of many of our HitchHiker friends: Shelle and Murray, Sally and Mike, Rick and Virgie, Jeff and Susan, Stacy and Sharon. It was a fun 4 days with all those folks plus some friends of Murray, Barb and Joe, Peter and Bev and Ruth and Tom. Happy hour started early. Jeff rated Rich a 7 in backing into our spot.
