Oct 2, 2008 - Journée "off"

Sep 23, 2008 - Santa Monica and Los Angeles

A week long stay in Santa Monica with lovely hosts Robert and Melina (friends of John's cousin Fran who lives in Toronto). A very relaxing time was had in the wonderful Californian climate. Expecting all the worst of a large, modern metropolis we were pleasantly surprised by the low rise, leafy streets of Santa Monica. We did manage a few trips including a cycle ride along the beach to Venice - a bohemian hangout with plenty of oddball characters; Malibu - with its exclusive coastal properties and beautiful beach; and, of course, Beverley...

Aug 21, 2008 - 2nd Day in LA

Went on a bus to LAX airport, then got another bus to Santa Monica. Walked around town for a bit, then went along the seafront to Venice beach, a 3 mile walk, dodging lots of cyclists and in-line skaters. Lots of lovely wooden piers here. Not as good as the (ex) one in WSM though!

Mar 27, 2008 - West Coast Road Trip!

We arrived in L.A after 3 whole days on a bus, we were a bit stinky to say the least! We splashed out and got a taxi to Santa Monica as our sleepy heads couldn't figure out the bus system! Our hostel was only 2 blocks from the beach, on arrival at the hostel we went in search of food, and caught sunset over the Pacific..a nice end to a very dull few days on the bus! We spent 8 days in Santa Monica, during that time we spent time on the beach (playing catch) walking along the beach with the waves washing over our feet we felt well and truly...

Mar 11, 2008 - Santa Monica

On Tuesday, Kelly and I got up for an early morning walk through the hills and neighborhoods of Whittier. Pretty great views and a very nice town. Later we went into Long Beach. Shortly after we got there I had a minor incident with a steet sign on the sidewalk and almost knocked my self silly when I did a faceplant into it. I was a bit stunned, embarrassed and only bled a little. Some TLC to my bruised ego and a bandaid fixed me right up... After regaining my composure we ventured on a couple blocks to the Promenade which is are area of...

Feb 1, 2008 - A fairly quiet birthday!

Well - been on the road for a few days now and so far so good. Today is my first day in LA after flying in from Vegas this afternoon. Vegas was the same as ever and I was getting a bit bored of it by the end. Still have money left which is a bonus! Highlights were the usual wanders around the hotels, having a good last evening at Blackjack and going to a concert at Mandelay Bay (The Bravery). Lowlight was having to wait on a very cold sidewalk (pavement to you lot) for the President to go past. They closed the road and pavement for nearly...

Dec 9, 2007 - Days Four and Five: By the Sea

Saturday we spent the morning with Katie's family and enjoyed some delicious burgers from Templeton's very own Burger Station! We embarked down the coast in the afternoon, stopping in downtown Santa Barbara to walk around, shop a little, and eat dinner. Afterward we continued down the coast to Santa Monica where we were greeted warmly by Chris Tin and Punky (pictured above). We awoke Sunday to a beautiful sunny morning. After brunch at Joe's Diner we walked along the beach to the 3rd St. Promenade for shopping and people-watching. That...

Sep 15, 2007 - First day in LA, "LAPD, can I see some ID sir?"

Arrived in LA Friday afternoon, oh god i've gotta drive on the wrong ( right ) side? Picked up the car, complete with GPS, and headed off to Rob's house in Santa Monica. Survived....... A few drinks and a meal with Rob & Jude and crashed...... Next day got up and planned the day, fired up the SUV ( sports utility vehicle ), fired up the GPS and headed up the hills. First stop was the Getty Centre with awesome views back over LA, beautiful building, just sooooo photogenic, you'll see! After that up Sunset Blvd and stopped at the area they...

Sep 1, 2007 - Santa Monica

I have finally been to Santa Monica. We took a bus out to it which cost all of 75 cents. We got off at the shopping district and didn't realise till after we left that we didn't even make it to the pier. Andrea managed to get some souvenier shopping done and we spent some time watching the street performers. They are pretty good and I'm glad I got some of it on DVD. The street is closed off to traffic like the Hay Street Mall. We stopped there for lunch and I risked having a creamy seafood pasta. It was so yummy but I paid for it later....
