Dec 21, 2009 - Bob's on his own today

Notes from Marilyn Today Bob and his friend Mike from San Luis Obispo went off by themselves for some tasting and discussion. Since I had no interest in talking about malolactic fermentation or at what brix a grape was picked, I opted to stay back and accomplish some housekeeping chores -- laundry, visit to the post office, trip to drug store -- all those little things that keep a vacation going. We had breakfast cafe au lait back at Panolivio since the local coffeehouse was full of local folks enjoying their morning caffeine and their...

Dec 20, 2009 - The best of intentions

Notes from Marilyn We had great intentions this morning -- walk over to Starbucks for some coffee and a sweet, have that with strawberries left over from a couple of days ago, spend the morning reading the newspapers, catch up on the laundry and not visit any wineries. Those good intentions lasted until about 10:30 when the last of the NY Times and The LA Times were finished. We headed out with more good intentions of visiting two or three places while waiting for our friends, the Botwins, to give us a call letting us know they were back...

Dec 19, 2009 - Back in the swing of tasting and touring.

Notes from Marilyn Today’s breakfast was courtesy of two Adelaide Inn coupons for Margie’s, a diner connected to the Best Western next to us. Margie’s believes in HEARTY breakfasts. Five slices of bacon, not two, a half an orange to garnish and not a slice, fried potatoes for four on the plate and not for two, pancakes that cover the plate not that just occupy part of the plate. Thus ready to plow the back forty acres, we headed off to today’s adventures. The Paso Farmer’s market was this morning, so we picked up this week’s ration of...

Dec 18, 2009 - Back to the past

Notes from Marilyn We are slowly transforming stomach time into California time as we woke up at the late hour of 7 AM today. After getting ready for the day and arguing about whose turn it was to use the computer, we headed to Paso Robles for breakfast at Panolivio -- a quasi French bistro, breakfast place. As is the norm when we midwestern “get up early and make hay while the sun shines” folks travel, we were the first and, for quite a while, the only ones in the restaurant. Breakfast was large bowls of cafe au lait, a croissant, and some...

Aug 21, 2009 - I dont know what to title this.. uh....

California was amazing. We stayed 2 nights in a hotel Santa Monica and, after tonight, two nights in Northridge with Dan's family. Amy and the guys did a GREAT job giving us a taste of Cali. We got to see everything we wanted and more! We went to Hollywood, to the beach, to the Santa Monica Pier, the Volcom Store in LA and lots more. Everything was fun but it was especially nice to spend time with them all. Tomorrow we leave for Utah in the morning to spend a couple days with Melissa and the gang! Jamie (and dan)

Aug 19, 2009 - California

Howdy, Yesterday we rolled into California. The first couple hours were roasting. Once we got out of desert it cooled down pretty nicely. The hotel is great, no pool but the ocean is pretty close so we are over it. Last night we went out to eat at a pizza and pasta place with Amy, Shane, and Zack. The trip has been great so far but we have a lot left. :) Dan and (Jamie)

May 20, 2009 - South down the 101

San Fran was fun but we were feeling it today with all the walking we did yesterday. Both of us have been hobbling around. Our day was mainly driving south down Hwy 101 and also a bit along Pacific Coast Highway( CA-1). The coastal views were beautiful. Some highlights of the drive were stopping in Soledad to gas up and get some Burger King. While at the gas station, Aaron went to put the gas nozzle away but the nozzle ended up squirting gas all over the place, hitting me in the leg. Needless to say, we found this hilarious since nothing...

Mar 26, 2009 - Day 10

I traveled to Los Angeles the next day in order to attend the USC open day for MPP and MPA applicants. Thankfully I got to stay a Julie's in Santa Monica insetead of having to pay for a motel. After I arrived, I took a shower! Since I was now all clean, her parents took us out for dinner. Getting to sleep in a bed again was heavenly.
