Mar 16, 2013 - Visting with Nephews Matt & John
After leaving Stelitta and Clara, we drove to Santa Monica to spend a few days with Alanna and Tom. Fortunately we were able to see our Nephews Matt and John. Matt and his Wife Natalie were leaving for Italy the next day and John was moving back to San Diego area. Alanna fixed her outstanding Kale Salad and Avocado & Chocolate pudding - both are to die for. Reggi Fixed Lamb Chops, Asparagus and potatoes, again an outstanding meal. We had a great time reminiscing. It was really great being able to get together.Jump to full entry
Mar 11, 2013 - L.A.
Traveled up the coast , dropped into Now and Then Store that belongs to Brandi and Jarrid of Storage Wars Fame. Not much to see .Mostly just second hand furniture. Got souvenir and headed into L.A. Checked into Malibu RV Park. Great Park on cliff overlooking Malibu Beach and ocean. Took a drive thru the hills east of Malibu. Very windy road. I think this is where Jane Mansfield crashed into the truck and died. I can understand , lots of blind turns and speeding sports cars. Went up Malibu Canyon Rd. to Ventura freeway and Back to the coast...Jump to full entry
Oct 16, 2012 - Off air for a few days
Hi all, we took an hour and a half to drive from San Diego to Santa Monica on Sunday. Yesterday we explored the Santa Monica Pier and hired some bikes to cycle to Venice beach - an hour return on the bikes. It was lots of fun and very easy flat riding- no one here wears helmets though. Kids had some but none for us- maybe our brains don't rate as highly! We have very limited internet access so photos to come later. We are currently at The La Brea Tar Pits. Again, more info and pics later.Jump to full entry
Apr 26, 2012 - Meeting Aunt Cathy
Oh my goodness what a wonderful day we’ve had today! Today will be one of those “cherish in my heart forever” days. I got up fairly early today and decided to work on my pictures. Since I don’t have internet here I haven’t been able to post pictures but I’m going to take a quick trip to the library on Saturday so I thought if I had the pictures I wanted to post already in files it will be fast and easy for me to get them posted. After doing that I started to get the kids up. It wasn’t an easy task to get these “lazy bones Jones’ “up but...Jump to full entry
Dec 18, 2011 - Landed and hit the ground running....
Hey y'all, everyone is so super friendly here!! We have had a great day but slowly one by one are now dropping like flies...it's 9pm and Sarah and I are the only ones standing, poor Sarah kept having little nod-offs during the day so her batteries kept being refuelled! We picked up our car rental as soon as we arrived, right hand side and road driving is a little hard to get used to, I think Tim will be the driving person..... We rode bikes from Santa Monica pier a few kms past Venice Beach with so much to be seen along the way: acrobats,...Jump to full entry
Dec 1, 2011 - Santa Ana Winds
I'm sure most of you have heard or seen the news reports about the unusually strong Santa Ana winds that blew through the area last night. Fortunately for Winnie and I, they appeared to be north and east of where we are. I didn't notice any damage in the RV park this morning, although I vaguely remember hearing the wind blowing last night. Lot's of local news reports of wind caused damage to trees and power lines. Over 300,000 people are without electricity tonight. Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power has even rationed water in some areas....Jump to full entry
Sep 29, 2011 - Santa Monica, California
We had another busy day today. Started off by taking a bus tour. Stopped at Rodeo Drive, Walk of Fame (Grauman's Chinese Theatre), and Mullholland Drive to see the Hollywood sign. We had a good tour guide who gave us lots of info. Went along Wilshire Blvd & Sunset Strip pointing out different things. We would have never found them on our own. The bus had about 36 people on the tour and we were the only Americans. Rest were from Australia, Canada, England, and Brazil. We got back from the tour and relaxed a little and then went to the Santa...Jump to full entry
Sep 28, 2011 - Santa Monica, Ca
We have finally arrived in Santa Monica, California, the end of Route 66. We have yet to make it to the Santa Monica Pier, but we will do that tomorrow. Was very warm when we started out. We followed our guide and hit the landmarks. Stopped in Victorville where there is a 66 Museum. Most people have been extremely nice, especially when they hear you are traveling 66. Going thru the mountain pass was a little white knuckle. And the traffic really got hairy at times. Jim did a great job driving. We drove thru San Bernardino, Pasadena, West...Jump to full entry

Aug 28, 2011 - Day 9
After our late arrival at Doubletree, we were slow to rise this morning but I just couldn't be in Santa Monica without starting the day with a run along the beachfront. Naturally I was one of many doing the same thing! Because this was just a one night stop, we packed up our stuff and head out for breakfast planning a full day of beachfront discovery before moving on to the next hotel. So after renting bikes at the pier, we travelled south along the cycle highway to see what we could see. We were amazed by the different types of...Jump to full entry
Aug 22, 2011 - A Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac...
The Pacific Coast Highway has been responsible for the inspiration of more legendary songs than I can count. Being an avid life-long guitar player, this evening it became quite easy to understand how these songs came to be and the following story in particular couldn't escape my thoughts as I drove along. As the story goes, guitarist Mike Campbell, circa 1984 or so, was in Los Angeles working on Tom Petty & The HeartBreaker's excellent "Southern Accents" album at about the same time Don Henley was working on his "Building the Perfect Beast"...Jump to full entry
May 10, 2011 - Santa Monica With Ed
I had a pretty good flight on Air New Zealand from Auckland to LA - I watched LoOve Birds (a kiwi film), Made In Dagenham, had a 4 hour sleep then watched Little Fockers over breakfast. I then had a 5 hour wait in LA arrivals until Ed flew in from the UK. We caught a taxi to our hotel, The Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica, around 9pm and had a nice evening in the lobby bar having dinner and a few drinks. The next day we walked down to Santa Monica Beach, onto the pier and then along the 6th Street Promenade where we found a Japanese...Jump to full entry
