Nov 26, 2018 - Santa Barbara
As much as we loved the time we spent at the Hearst Casle, we were ready to move on from San Simeon as it had very little to offer. Our drive to Santa Barbara was a beautiful one along hwys 1 and 101 and also 154 through the mountains. We just couldn’t get enough of it. Getting to the Castillo Inn was very easy and it is a very nice Inn. We’d highly recommend you stay here if you are passing through. We arrived in Santa Barbara around noon so we had very little time to explore. We took a nice walk down State St and visited the Court...Jump to full entry
Apr 25, 2017 - Linda, Curt, & Nancy
Drive up the coast and with help from Sofi (our GPS lady) since we have very old paper maps... Curt and Linda are in the midst of remodeling, plus Curtis' Mom has taken a turn for the worse (at 90s). Had a short visit with Curt before he had to fly out to Portland. Later, we had a nice outing/dinner with Linda and Nancy catching up and the 3 of them planning to do a trip together come fall?!Jump to full entry
Apr 21, 2017 - Leaving at last for Santa Barbara
We had to have our shower enclosure replaced because after 12 years shaking down the road, the door was having problems and there were no replacement parts. A custom enclosure had to be manufactured. It took much longer than we had hoped (a week late) but when it finally arrived and was installed, we breathed a sigh of relief. We departed Garden Grove today on a Friday afternoon to Santa Barbara Elks, which normally would be about a 2 to 2 ½ hours’ drive but on a Friday afternoon, that becomes a 4 hour drive. The pace was slow and tedious...Jump to full entry
Mar 18, 2017 - To Curt and Linda's
In the midst of a remodel we visit Bon's grade school friend in Santa Barbara...one night and then back to Nancy's one night and then Monday, back to C & L's ! Ha! Great to catch up both places and I enjoy listening to the political banter.... 3/20 Todd's Birthday we're back to L & C's, great dinner of cheese fondue with Nancy coming over as well...Jump to full entry
Sep 17, 2016 - Santa Barbara touring
Escape to Santa Barbara Saturday, September 17th: Fremont Campground to Santa Barbara and back Weather: mid-60s morning, mid-80s afternoon on the coast but 100s in the Santa Ynez Valley behind the Santa Ynez Mountain Range Route: Paradise Road to CA-154 to US-101 to the Downtown Santa Barbara exit Our plan to escape the afternoon heat of the Santa Ynez Valley was to drive the 12 miles back through San Marco Pass (gas mileage be damned!) to the cooler coastal Santa Barbara. After a leisurely breakfast and re-organizing the gear we had...Jump to full entry
Sep 10, 2016 - Back Roads to Los Padres National Forest
We left Morgan Hill for a campground near Santa Barbara, one of the most beautiful areas of coastal California. The reviews for our next Thousand Trails campground are good, except for the road into the park. A couple of horror stories made us a little nervous about the mile long one and a half lane curving road into the park. One review talked about arriving in their motorhome with their car in tow which means no backing up, and being met by a pickup pulling a horse trailer that also could not back up. It took them about an hour to...Jump to full entry
Jul 10, 2016 - What a trip to Santa Barbara!!!!!
We made it to Santa Barbara or rather Goleta which is about 20 miles north. We weren't able to find an RV park in SB and didn't want to make it too long of a day trip. We had a great time in Chula Vista and would like to go back. It was rather stressful coming up from Chula Vista since the primary scenery was vehicles on the freeway and buildings. There are too many people for us. A couple of cocktails eased the stress once we got here. The beach is about 20 minutes walking distance. We took a trip back to S B and went to Stearns Wharf...Jump to full entry
Jul 22, 2015 - Planned memories.....
Changes come with time and rightly so..Some we may not care for and others we greet with enthusiasm. Looking back to my original post I am reminded how precious one night with my mother was for me and how that has been a driver in my life. I have been so fortunate to not only follow her lead but be able to have so much more time with my children and in this case to be able to adventure out past our everyday surroundings. Such is the advantages of living now and being able to take advantage of where we are in life. But none of this would...Jump to full entry
Jul 19, 2015 - Last stop...Bergen
Bergen was a fun waterfront town with rows of old colorful buildings and lots of tourists. It is considered to be the gateway to all the wonderful Norwegian fjords and is the second largest city in Norway. When is the rainiest season of the year? The answer is January through December! It's estimated that Bergen is blessed with THIRTY rainless days a year. That having been said we enjoyed almost two whole days of no rain although it was wet when we left on day three. Bergen boasted a huge fish market every day at the end of the harbor with...Jump to full entry
Jul 15, 2015 - Resuming Norway in a Nutshell Journey
We slept well in sleepy Balestrand.....no noisy bars or honking horns there! We left in the morning via the same lovely boat we arrived in and had a peaceful ride back to Flam. There we rejoined the Nutshell tour and boarded a much more basic boat to cruise down the narrow Naevoyfjord for a couple of hours until we reached Gudvangen where we caught the bus to Voss about an hour away. This bus ride made the Falm Railway look like the SB Zoo train! About twenty minutes into the trip we took a detour to the right winding up a steep mountain....Jump to full entry
Jul 4, 2015 - Oslo and beyond!
We flew from Stockholm to Oslo a flight of 45 minutes and hopped on the metro which begins in the airport. Thirty minutes later we got off in the city only to be greeted by a beautiful sunny day and an even more spectacular, ultra modern water fountain. We walked with our luggage about 20 minutes to our hotel. The walk was lovely along the main boulevard lined with large metal pots of colorful flowers. No cars are allowed on the main street so it has a festive feel with people relaxing in cafes and enjoying the weather, coffee, beer and...Jump to full entry
Jun 30, 2015 - Stockholm!
We flew into Stockholm around eleven this morning and walked immediately onto the Express Train which speeds into the city centrer in less that 20 minutes at 120 mph.. Such a beautiful train used by business people, locals and tourists. They really know how to make riding a train a lesson in comfort, sustainability and sheer pleasure. We are staying at the First Hotel Reisen in Gamla Stan, the old town section of Stockholm which sits on the water. We have a captivating view of the canal and parts of the city. The hotel is in a perfect...Jump to full entry
