Sep 4, 2008 - Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home. Sammy was so happy to be in his own backyard. He announced his arrival to the squirrels, cats, and neighbors with barking and running around to every inch of the yard. We loved our long trip, but there's no place like home. We traveled 10,500 miles in the motorhome. We drove 3500 miles in our car. The average price of diesel fuel was $5.40 per gallon. The memories...priceless.

Aug 10, 2008 - Len's birthday - Party with work friends!

Today was Len's birthday. Not a typical birthday - no cake or presents (he got them earlier) but sure was fun. We went to one of his co-worker's house, Dave Dorn, in San Jose and met his family. We BBQ'd and I made Thai Red Curry, Pad Thai Noodles and Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango. It was really fun! Their asian market puts anything we'd have in UTAH to shame. We found everything we needed and were able to show them a few new things to make. Dave's wife, Wendy, is from China and wanted to learn a few Thai dishes. We weren't sure what to...

Aug 4, 2008 - Just hangin' by the pool and shoppin'!

Monday - Today was just a hang around kind of day. We did manage to go to Fry's Electronics Headquarters in San Jose and their main store. It was more fun than I could have imagined for the kids. We spent well over an hour in that store. They loved it! We really only needed a keyboard for the laptop - one of the keys on Maren's laptop has fallen off so an "external" keyboard makes it a lot easier to type. But they went from row to row looking and playing with everything. We came back to the hotel after a few more shopping stops and had...

Jul 7, 2008 - Arrival in San Jose, California

What a beautiful drive from Columbia to San Jose via Highway 120. The drive takes you through a major agricultural area with miles and miles of farm land. We just had to stop at the roadside stands for fresh corn, strawberries, tomatoes, and almonds. After Highway 120, we hit the freeways in the bay area and the fun was over. At least driving in San Antonio has prepared us for the California freeways. We arrived unscathed at the Trailer Tel RV Park in San Jose. This place used to be a mobile home park and was converted. It is very nice with...

Jun 29, 2008 - Dagbok 11. dag

May 14, 2008 - "If it's not Scottish, it's Crepe"

After Oakland we headed just an hour south to San Jose, CA, where we lunched at a quaint little Crepe house with Lorna's Great Aunt (Ruth) on her mother's side and her 2nd cousin (Kenneth). After lunch we had tea and cookies at another 2nd cousin's (Linda) home. This was a wonderful reunion as neither Jason nor Lorna knew these relatives very well and connecting with them was a very special occasion for us. The evening was spent with another friend of Lorna's from College, Darcy, her husband, Doug, and their 11 month old son, Raffi. It was...

FRIDAY January 25, 2008 It has rained ALL WEEK! It has been boring and rather cold and a challenge to keep us entertained. We did check out the Tech Museum in San Jose which was really cool. It was a hands-on museum that had the technology to swipe your ticket with your barcode and allow you to record your activities at the museum while you are there. We haven’t gone back to check our websites that we created yet, but we keep saying we will.

Nov 8, 2007 - Day 1: San Jose to Emeryville

Amtrak Day 1 San Jose to Emeryville Today, I started my first ever trip across the United States by rail. The plan was to travel coast-to-coast on Amtrak: five days with only two stops: an overnight in Emeryville and a five-hour layover in Chicago. I had been Christmas shopping during my time off in California. To avoid lugging everything across the continent, I shipped a box home containing all of the presents I had bought and a few items that I wouldn't need for the rest of the trip. After a final dinner at the hotel, I took a taxi to...

Nov 8, 2007 - Barstow, CA to San Jose, CA (HOME)

After a beautiful sunrise in Barstow, we were off early, traveling 380 miles to San Jose. After 10,414 miles around the country, we were happy to be home. The girls ran around the house, exploring their old areas and toys. We did too! After 3 months away, we had to reaquaint ourselves with everything. We were anxious to see if there was any damage from the 5.6 earthquake a couple of weeks ago and, happily, all was secure. The Born Free performed marvelously for the trip, no problems at all. We had planned on spending $3000 on gas (10,000...
