Jun 24, 2010 - The Boardwalk-Santa Cruz, CA

We are on the road traveling again and our first stop was Santa Cruz. We got here late in the afternoon and were only able to spend about an hour before we went and checked into our hotel, The Islander. Sam was disappointed because he was just a little short to ride some very key important rides. He couldn't even been bribed with candy!! We were treated to a fabulous dinner with Dad and Brenda at Shadowbrook in Capitola for Bryan's birthday. Not only was the food exquisite, but the ambiance was perfect. We had to take a tram to get to the...

Jul 29, 2009 - 160 rooms? you've got to be kidding !

So, here we are again, another entry, with this writing, there is so much information to process along with 90 plus pictures (had 425 to sort through by the way), I have to compress this entry into just a few paragraphs, or you would be reading for quite awhile. I want you to know there is a choice to just tell just the facts of this recent journey, but I believe simply doing that you, the reader would not have the full effect of the similarity of a saltine cracker and this posting. And you ask, what’s up with the SALTINE CRACKER and this...

May 1, 2009 - Moving On

Steve is into his 4th month of drug treatment for the multiple myeloma. His blood tests are showing that he is responding to the treatment. Luckily, we have qualified for assistance to pay for the drugs. The Revlimid he is taking costs $7,222 per MONTH. My current drug plan pays all but $75 and we are getting assistance from the Chronic Disease Fund for all but $30. I am shopping around for a new Medicare drug plan and insurance because my COBRA runs out on August 20. There will be an immediate $4,000 copay the first month of the new drug...

Happy New Year to all. We are hoping for a much brighter 2009. 2008 ended miserably for us – first with the economic downturn and loss on our investments, and then Steve was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells. It has been devastating and overwhelming news and we are trying to absorb all the information and figure out the impact on our travels and our lives. There is no cure for multiple myeloma but they try to control it with powerful drugs. Steve has undergone all sorts of blood and urine tests, full body...

Dec 16, 2008 - Yikes! We got snow!

We never knew that we would be spending winter in the snow, but we have had snow and sleet for the past couple of days. The previous week was balmy and almost 70 degrees and we went on several hikes. I got a part-time job doing office work at a small, family-owned commercial property management company. I only work three days a week for 5 1/2 hours a day and it is perfect for me. I also finished up a 60-hour tax class to get certified in California to do tax returns. So, during tax season I will be working part-time at Liberty Tax.

Nov 28, 2008 - Camphost at Grant County Park

We moved the trailer today, the day after Thanksgiving, to the Joseph D. Grant County Park near Mt. Hamilton in San Jose. We are going to be the first ever Camp Hosts here at the park. An eight-mile stretch of Highway 130 was the main obstacle to overcome. This road is very narrow and twists and winds up through the East Bay Mountains near San Jose. The road was originally designed back in the stagecoach days to go all the way up to the Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton. We had previously visited the park three times and knew that we would...

Oct 21, 2008 - San Jose, California

It's been a while since I wrote anything. I don't really have access to the internet on my laptop. I have to borrow our friends computer to check my email. I found a unsecurred wireless connection which is spotty, so I thought I'd at least make an entry. We have been busy meeting up with friends and will probably be on a huge diet when we come back. So far since we've been here we've had lunch with some one every day. I don't see it ending until next week. We're having a good time though. When I can again get a fast connection I will post...

Sep 15, 2008 - Change of Plans

What do I love most about this fulltime RV lifestyle? Complete flexibility and the opportunity to change your plans at will. When we arrived in the San Jose area the first part of July, we had planned for a two-month visit with Valerie and our 1 ½ year old grandson, Gavin. Within a very short time, we discovered that perhaps God had brought us here to this place at this time so that we could help Valerie with Gavin. She is in her third and final year of an ER residency program at Stanford and her schedule is horrific. We have been doing...
