Dec 18, 2019 - Redding California

It was an interesting start to our road trip this morning. Our GPS shut down...it is a new unit so that was quite disappointing. But since I remember a lot of our stops over the years I figured we would be fine. If it was in a large city , that would cause us going around numerous blocks and saying a few choice words. After reaching Redding and getting internet access, I searched out the GPS "not starting" issue ,and solved the problem. All is well again. We drove in RAIN from Weed to Redding, first time ever it rained on our drive.

Oct 5, 2019 - Redding, CA

Our journey today was a bit long, driving 6.25 hours to cover 324.3 miles. Leaving Springfield there were many bright red trees announcing their Fall Colors. It was simply beautiful. We will see more evidence of Fall further down the road, but not as bright red as here in Springfield. We encountered dense morning fog or low clouds crawling along the mountains and hills, and we drove through the fog. We crossed the North Umpqua River that drains into the Pacific Ocean. Then about 20 minutes later we crossed the South Umpqua River, that also...

May 29, 2019 - Ashland, OR to Redding, CA

May 29, 2019 Warm and breezy evening last night. For the record, we are tied 13:13 for cribbage. The smoked Italian sausage was terrific. The sun awoke me at 5:30. Had a leisurely breakfast outside watching folks launch their boats. Drove into Ashland to window shop. This time of the year there are no plays during the week and more than likely how we got such a nice site at Emigrant Lake. Town is as lovely as we remember. Miss not going to Amuse for dinner though. Bob has made a reservation for a nice dinner in Redding. The corkage is $15...

Jun 11, 2018 - Redding CA

Another awesome day on our journey. We started off early from lovely Fresno to meet up with Bob's relatives, Meg and Gabe. We met in Williams at Granzellas and had a lot of fun eating and talking. Catching up for Bob and meeting new friends for Bonnie. They were both delightful to converse with. The time went by too quickly. This seems to be a common theme on this journey. Next stop - Redding. This was a last minute change and we are very happy we added this delightful city. It's beautiful - green, surrounded by mountains - some snow...

May 29, 2018 - Final Days in Redding

We have had a busy couple of days here in Northern California. There is so much to see and do that it is kind of hard to fit everything in. We had several must-do’s on our list including visiting Mt. Shasta Caverns, taking a bike ride on the Sacramento Rail Trail and visiting beautiful Mt. Shasta. On Saturday, we had reservations to tour Mt. Shasta Caverns which is a National Natural Landmark. It was cold and dreary when we got up on Saturday morning - not exactly ideal conditions for taking an open-air boat ride across a lake, followed by...

2018 Life in our RV

May 24, 2018 - Northern California

We left the Yosemite area last Thursday and headed north on I-5 to Redding California for two weeks. We are staying at Mountain Gate RV Park about 5 miles north of Redding, on the edge of the Shasta Mountains. This is a nice little park set on the side of the hill just off I-5. We have already met two different couples here and been to lunch with both of them. One couple – Bruce and Linda – have a Grand Design Reflection which is made by the same manufacturer as ours. They are also full-time RVers and he is a retired preacher. Both in their...

Apr 25, 2017 - Redding, California

We had a pretty easy travel day, only about 150 miles. We decided to go a different route instead of waiting for Highway 101 to open fully. They did say it is open one way now, that would mean a lot of waiting in line for the other lanes to be cleared. Our route to Redding was much faster and easier. We passed by some beautiful lakes along the drive, one area looked like a little version of Switzerland. They even had some restaurants in the area named after ones in Switzerland. We got a pull through site in Redding where we didn't even have...

Redding, CA / Mt Shasta We left the Oregon Coast, which we had enjoyed tremendously, and drove to I-5 again. We enjoyed the drive very much, because the scenery changed from evergreen forest to farmland and back again to forest. We had a wonderful view of Mt. Shasta as we drove, and later we wished we had stopped to take a picture, because when we got to Shasta Dam, the view was not as clear. Shasta Lake is the largest lake in California and was created by the damming up of the Sacramento River. It has over 360 miles of shore line, and is a...

Alaska Trip 2016

Aug 6, 2016 - Redding, CA

Well, today’s drive was interesting. Jay asked if we’d be going over any mountains. I told him I didn’t think so, but I didn’t know. Well, 3 of our 3 ½ hours on the road were climbing mountains and then descending them. Although the views were beautiful during the time I had my eyes open, it was a stressful day for me…..and I WASN’T driving! Seriously, though, it was a beautiful drive through many pine forested mountains with snow covered Mt. Shasta in view for a good portion of the drive. What a magnificent volcanic mountain. We entered...

Today we headed up to Redding Elks Lodge. We crossed the Benicia Bridge, part of the San Francisco Bay Bridge system which are all toll bridges. It was $5 per axle, so motor home plus tow car = 5 axles = $25 to cross. We made a couple rest stops, and had lunch at Black Bear Café. We started to see Mt Shasta and also Mt Lassen in the distance. Both impressive even at this distance. The GPS took us into Redding Elks from south through old town Redding, a bit of a pain, we should have followed directions in book from the north. We set up and...

Apr 29, 2016 - A stop in Redding, Ca.

We left Lancaster on the 27th & headed for Redding, Ca.(driving 545 miles). We actually are working our way to Eugene, Oregon...we are in need of a repair on the 5th-wheel...we think. We had a puddle of water under it while in Lancaster & think it was a water pressure issue that took a toll on a water line seal. Hey...this rig is 10 years old already, bound to be something going haywire. Anyways, since we were having to pass through Redding , we decided to stop in & see my high school friend Toni (still best friends). We stayed at the Elks...
