Oct 13, 2019 - Merced

Small Town America Day 38 Mark is shattered; he's driven just short of 5000 miles over the last 4 weeks. A couple of restful days before hitting San Francisco seem in order. After smooching around the apartment this morning we set off for the centre of town aiming to visit the County Courthouse Museum. Once parked we realise that the museum doesn't open until 1 o'clock so have a wonder round the area. What are all these groups of people doing? They are all wandering around the little park in the middle of the square, phones in hands. Why?...

Oct 11, 2019 - Oakhurst to Merced

Oh No! More Flashing Lights Day 37 We have enjoyed every minute of our time in Oakhurst and would have liked to stay longer but there is no accommodation available over the weekend. We have managed to book a place in Merced which is about 2 hours north and on the way to San Francisco. Once packed we jump in the car and set off in the same direction as yesterday’s journey, hopefully with less problems. We were sure we had left Route 66 and the advertising gimmicks behind but Marcus spies a giant welder outside a welding shop on the roadside....

Jun 6, 2015 - Sequoia National Park et Merced

bonsoir, Aujourd'hui nous avons visité Séquoia National Park. Super !! Bonne nuit !

Sep 13, 2012 - Merced, California

We decided to head back east towards Nevada and Turkey said there was a short-cut across the hills to the east of San Jose and over into Yosemite National Park. He said there were a few corners, but it shouldn’t be too bad. I was okay with that. When will I learn? Last time I trusted his little judgement call on the mountain roads, I ended up riding up a mogi dugway! But we forget too soon! So….off we went, down the road from the MacInnes’ place in San Jose, and soon up the side of the mountain. That was a feat itself. We rode up very...

May 10, 2011 - Looking For Yosemite Sam

Uncle Wally moved up the road “a piece” to Merced, California, & we hung with him. From here we went to Yosemite National Park, where about half of the interior roads were open but others were still closed due to the accumulated snow. The beauty of Yosemite was in its waterfalls & massive granite rock faces. We were somewhat amazed at how many people were there, given the road-closures. In the areas that we were able to visit, the weather was very nice, no snow visible, with shorts & short-sleeved shirts being comfortable. It seems that we...

Apr 10, 2010 - Trip to Merced, CA

Saturday, April 10, trip from Sonoma area to Merced, CA. Cloudy with high temperature of 66. After checking out of the Doubletree, we went to the coffee shop and found both Leosara and Peter were there. We enjoyed coffee and conversation with our new friends. We exchanged our addresses and phone numbers and promised to stay in touch, but I’m sure that each couple silently wondered if we would ever see each other again. Since we were planning to visit Yosemite National Park on Sunday, we wanted to have a motel near to it. The town that had a...
