Rather than take the 'normal' route of driving to Colorado through the desert and salt flats of Nevada and Utah, I decided to take a more northerly path. Today I drove from home in Los Gatos to Burney Falls Memorial Park. I've wanted to visit there since Auntie Vern brought me a compass embedded in a cross section of a small tree limb...from Burney Falls. She was a teenager....I was 8 or 9....and she had gone camping with her friend, Patty Slaughter. It was a VERY cool compass! Except for the heat, a misbehaving rear view mirror on the RV...

Jul 13, 2007 - McArthur-Burney Falls State Park

High on the eastern boundary of the Cascade Range, McArthur-Burney Falls State Park sits on the western Modoc plateau halfway between Mt. Shasta and Lassen Peak. The hike to the base of the falls and then over the top (by bridge) was awesome. My pictures do not display this, but the mist above the basin of glacier blue water at the bottom of the falls was alight with rainbow colors.
