So… I didn’t totally drive 12 hours yesterday. I was on the road for about 10 hours (maybe 7 hours driving once I subtract all my photo stops, and pit stops, the beautiful packing stop in the Carson Iceberg Wilderness, and time for dinner beside Lake Tahoe). The other 2 hours I spent at Manzanar, which is a National Historical Site. It was just about 5 miles up the road⁷ from our ranger station and I knew it would be a somber experience but I thought it would be a meaningful one, and it was. Manzanar was the first of 10 internment camps...

Apr 20, 2008 - day 8 manzanar & just kicking
today we visited one of ten japanese relocation centers (manzanar) where they kept the japanese during the war in the 1942... stopped at coffee expresso parlor, like a starbucks and jakes bar, located in downtown lone pine... many of the small towns are opting for coffee bars/parlors because starbucks, much like mcdonalds are overwhelming people with a starbucks at almost every corner... today it is windy causing much desert sand dust, bad for photos. (see photos) - photos of the only wall left after the earthquake in 1872... today for us...
