Dec 14, 2009 - Mary Has Sinus Infection, Me Too?

We won three out of the five bingo games this morning at the Senior Center. Mary went back to the Center after lunch for the afternoon bingo session. She didn't win this afternoon, probably a good thing I think they would have run us out of town if she had. Mary went to the Baz Allergy Clinic after bingo, she was diagnosed as having a sinus infection. Damn TV lost it's signal three times today, maybe I have a bad cable or connections. I think I have a sinus infection now, Mary went to bed at 6:30.

Dec 13, 2009 - Back Where We Started

We left Needles about 8:30 this morning to 57F and sunshine, during the drive to Madera we ran into rain, wind, sun, and some fresh snow at Tehachapi. We had to buck a head wind most of the way until we dropped down into the Central Valley. Once again I had a terrible time trying to get the DirecTV satellite signal. Since we left Madera six months ago we have put 6,809 miles on Big E and 4,672 miles on Little C. After we got parked and set up at the Madera Fairgrounds Mary opened the closet door and discovered that the hangar pole in the...

Sep 18, 2009 - Another Full Day

The first stop this morning was at a beauty salon so I could get a haircut. I had an appointment with the same woman who had done a nice job on Myra’s hair earlier this week. Wanda had an appointment with her family physician soon after my haircut. I had taken a crossword puzzle book but had time to work only one and a half puzzles while waiting for Wanda. From there, we went to the Post Office and a car wash and finally to a shoe store. Tonight we attended the community sing-along. Ted worked in the sound booth. Wanda usually plays the...

Sep 17, 2009 - To Fresno

This afternoon Wanda and I went to Fresno, where she had an appointment at an imaging center. It was a very busy place but Wanda said that they were efficient. After her appointment, we went to her sister Mearlene’s apartment to pick up some items Wanda had ordered. Mearlene is an independent consultant and the Executive District Manager for Arbonne (www.mearlene.myarbonne.com). We had a nice visit with her. She gave me a Quantas ditty bag with sample-sized personal care products, shorts and T-shirt. Some of the products were for men so I...

Sep 16, 2009 - Full Day of Activities

Today was especially busy. First, Wanda and I met some other women at a parking lot to carpool to Chowchilla to their quilting class. After the lesson, they had show and tell. One lady had won two blue ribbons at the county fair. Some of the other ladies had won ribbons, too. Wanda had won a red ribbon on her picture of silk flowers but she had forgotten to take it. I hope she will remember to take it next time. After the class, she and I had lunch at the Black Bear Diner. I enjoyed my ham sandwich and spinach-mushroom soup. After a quick...

Sep 15, 2009 - Visit with Mearlene

This morning Wanda cooked a wonderful country breakfast. I really stuffed myself! Later her sister, Mearlene Rounsaville, came over from Fresno. We all went to Lowe’s to buy a few things for Wanda’s remodeling project. Then we went to a photography studio, where Mearlene arranged for some enlargements to be made from some old family photos. Their mother (who passed away in 1974) is in one of the photos wearing some eyeglasses which Mearlene now has. The interesting thing about this is that the frames of those glasses fit Mearlene’s face...

Sep 14, 2009 - To Madera, California

This morning I left Sacramento around 9:00 to allow time for the commuters to get to their jobs. By then the traffic had cleared and I had no trouble getting out. I headed for Madera to spend a few days with a childhood friend, Wanda Beck, and her husband, Ted, and their grandson, Spencer. Barb went on ahead to Bakersfield, where she plans to spend a week. I’ll catch up with her later. Then we’ll head east. I arrived at the Becks’ home shortly after noon. They are in process of remodeling one of their bathrooms, so things are a little...

We've landed in Madera, California at our friend's Jay and Chris North. We met Jay and Chris on the internet thru the RV forum I go into. They have been nice enough to let us park in the driveway, and in fact, had a dinner waiting for us when we got here! Tomorrow, they'll be taking us up to Yosemite National Park for a tour.

Sep 11, 2006 - Visit with Friends, Ted and Wanda Beck

MONDAY Today after lunch I headed to Madera to spend a few days with friends, Ted and Wanda Beck. Wanda and I are friends from early childhood. Our parents knew each other before any of them were married. Ted had retired but has been working quite a bit at a food processing plant, keeping their machinery in good running order. On Wednesdays and Saturdays he goes to their ranch in the hills to feed their cattle. Wanda also is "retired" but she is very busy with her quilting activities and music for their church. Each day after Ted gets...

Jan 2, 2001 - 1973 March 31 – Visit with Becks and Rounsavilles

This week end I visited friend Wanda Beck and her family in Madera. She picked me up at the Fresno airport. They are a very busy family but included me in their activities. Their children had grown a lot since I had last seen them. The week end was just too short!

Jan 2, 2001 - 1971 November – Visit with Becks and Rounsavilles

This was my first vacation since becoming an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company. It had been a long time since I had seen the Rounsaville family. They had moved to Madera from Seagraves, Texas when Wanda and I were in high school. I had not met her husband, Ted Beck, and their family. They seem like relatives. In fact, when we were small, Wanda and I thought that we were cousins. We called each other’s parents Aunt and Uncle. I flew to Fresno and Wanda picked me up from the airport. This was a wonderful vacation for me.
